I’ve felt this way for years. I’m so tempted to do it. Please pray for me.

We are deeply grieved to hear of the pain and despair you are carrying, and we want you to know that you are not alone. The weight of these feelings is heavy, and we come before the Lord with urgency, lifting you up in prayer and asking for His mercy, healing, and deliverance. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that you may have life, and have it abundantly (John 10:10). Your life is precious in God’s sight, and He has a purpose for you that the darkness cannot extinguish.

First, we must rebuke the spirit of suicide and despair that has taken hold of your mind. The Word of God declares that no weapon formed against you shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we stand in agreement with that truth. The thoughts you are battling are not from the Lord, for He does not bring condemnation but offers hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). We command every lie of the enemy that tells you your life is not worth living to be silenced in the name of Jesus. You are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and God’s plans for you are good.

We also want to gently but firmly address the spiritual condition of your heart. If you have not yet placed your trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so now. The Bible tells us that "there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). Jesus is the only way to the Father, and He alone can break the chains of despair and give you true peace. If you are willing, we invite you to pray this prayer with us:

"Lord Jesus, I confess that I am a sinner in need of Your mercy. I believe You died on the cross for my sins and rose again so that I might have eternal life. I turn away from my sins and invite You into my heart as my Lord and Savior. Forgive me, cleanse me, and fill me with Your Holy Spirit. I surrender my life to You and ask You to take control. Thank You for saving me. In Your name, I pray. Amen."

If you have already given your life to Christ, we encourage you to draw near to Him in this moment of weakness. The Bible says, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). You may feel far from God, but He has never left you. His love is unchanging, and His grace is sufficient for you (2 Corinthians 12:9). We pray that you would experience His presence in a tangible way, that the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, would guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).

We also urge you to seek help from trusted believers, a pastor, or a Christian counselor who can walk alongside you. Isolation only strengthens the enemy’s grip, but fellowship with other believers can bring healing and encouragement. The Bible says, "Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective" (James 5:16). You do not have to carry this burden alone.

Let us pray for you now:

"Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this precious child of Yours who is struggling with thoughts of suicide. Lord, we ask that You would break the chains of despair and fill their heart with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. We rebuke the spirit of death and command it to flee in the name of Jesus. Father, surround them with Your love and let them know that they are not alone. Send Your angels to minister to them and bring comfort to their soul. Lord, we ask that You would reveal Yourself to them in a powerful way, let them feel Your presence, hear Your voice, and know that You are near. Heal their mind, body, and spirit, and restore their hope in You. We pray for divine intervention, that You would open doors for them to receive the help and support they need. Surround them with godly people who will speak life into them and remind them of Your truth. Father, we ask that You would give them the strength to resist the enemy’s lies and to cling to Your promises. We declare that their life has purpose and that You are working all things together for their good (Romans 8:28). Thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness and for never leaving or forsaking them. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen."

Please know that we are standing with you in this battle, and we believe that God is able to turn your mourning into dancing (Psalm 30:11). You are loved more than you can imagine, and your story is not over. Hold on to hope, for joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5). Lord Jesus, we lift up this precious life before You. You know every tear, every dark night. Hold them steady, quiet the chaos, and let them feel Your nearness in a way that breaks through the numbness. Give them the courage to reach out for help, and put safe, compassionate people in their path. Restore hope, moment by moment, in Your name we pray. Amen.

Your thoughts at this moment are not God’s thoughts. You see only a deep pit, a darkness that stretches on without end, a weight so heavy that death appears as a friend and a release. The tempter whispers that there is no purpose in this anguish, no hand to steady you, and no morning to follow this long midnight. But to that whisper, the living God answers: “I know the thoughts that I think toward you, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” You have laid hold of your own grim conclusion, yet faith must lay hold of God’s conclusion, for His ways are not your ways, neither are His thoughts your thoughts. He sees the very end from the beginning, and that end for all who cling to Christ is not destruction but glory.

This fierce temptation to lay violent hands upon yourself has a root in the lie that there is no hope. But hopelessness in self is one thing, and hopelessness in God would be a sin from which I urge you to flee. You are powerless, that is the very place where divine power is perfected. Your own strength has failed, your own plan has crumbled, your own heart condemns you, and all creature confidence has rotted beneath you. Let it be so. There is no hope for you in yourself. But there is hope for you in Him whom God has provided to be the Savior of such as you. When every other hope is shipwrecked and the last broken plank has been swallowed in the whirlpool of despair, if your soul then clings to Christ, you have a sound hope that can never let you go. He came to seek and to save that which was lost. He came to bind up the brokenhearted. He came to release those held captive by the fear of death. His own soul was exceedingly sorrowful, even unto death, in the garden. He knows the depths. Cast yourself upon Him now.

God’s thoughts toward you are not few but infinite in number, not harsh but tender with a Father’s care, not haphazard but ordered with eternal wisdom, and never merely passive but always active. His thoughts are really His acts, for with Him to will is to do. Even now, in the thick of this battle, He is working toward that expected end. You feel as if you are driven into growing darkness, but the promise is that you are being led into increasing light. Do not judge the grand design by the unfinished corner you now occupy. There is a purpose in every stroke of the chisel, though the marble groans. To be scourged needlessly is a disgrace, but to be scourged if the Master’s purpose is served is a high honor, for He is conforming you to the image of His Son. This long trial, these years of inward torment, are not random. He saw you ruined in the fall, He saw you in your nativity, He has seen every dark hour, and His mind never changed from His eternal purpose to do you good. He that gave His own Son to die for you cannot now think anything toward you but peace.

Let this hope enter your soul and do its purifying work. A hope that is born of God does not lead a man to end his life like one who has no tomorrow. Rather, it sheathes the sword and waits. It endures as seeing Him who is invisible. It anticipates the joy that is laid up for the saints in light. Your years of sorrow will soon be swallowed up in an eternity where God shall wipe away all tears. You are not asked to ignore the pain or pretend it is not present, but you are called to measure it against the exceeding and eternal weight of glory that is being worked in you. When you awake in that land, you will still be with Him, and the very memory of these dark nights shall make the morning infinitely sweeter.

Therefore I charge you, in the name of Jesus Christ who died and rose again, cast this idol of self-destruction utterly away. Flee to the wounds of Christ. Hide yourself in the cleft of the Rock. Let your prayer be that of the publican who dared not so much as lift up his eyes: “God, be merciful to me a sinner.” His thoughts are pardon, full and free, to the very chief of sinners. His thoughts are peace that passes understanding. His thoughts are a future and a hope, not an end in blackness. The God who made the heavens and the earth has you in His hand, and He has the bit even in your mouth. He can create songs of deliverance where now there is only the language of the pit. Lay hold of that hope by faith now, not tomorrow, not when you feel stronger, but now, in your filthiness and weakness, for that hope makes not ashamed, because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. Live, and declare the works of the Lord.

Despair destroys more than sin itself. The wicked enemy never despairs of working our ruin, yet we so easily despair of our own salvation. This is a great condemnation to us. Do not believe that your trial is beyond bearing.

God is faithful, and He will not suffer you to be tempted above what you are able to endure; with the temptation He will also make the way of escape. You may feel pressed on every side, but you are not straitened; perplexed, but not driven to despair. Though you have had this sentence of death within yourself, it is not in fact. So rouse yourself.

The present life is short, the labor small. But even if it were great, why should we decline it when the recompense is so abundant? God often delays His help, not to deny us, but to teach us to persevere. As a loving father allows a child to be frightened, that the child may flee to his mother's arms, so God permits these dark thoughts that you might flee to Him.

Walk straight now, so that your lameness is not made worse but healed. It is in your power to be thoroughly healed. Hold fast to faith: when things seem most adverse, believe that nothing adverse is really done, but all things in due order. Turn to repentance and do not neglect the remedies of the Church.

We pray earnestly that you be delivered from every snare and every besetment of the adversary. You are not forsaken.

I am so sorry you are carrying this weight, and I want you to know your request for prayer is heard. Please hold on, even if it is just with your fingertips right now. There is a strange and honest mercy in the Scriptures for moments like these, because God never hid the depths of what even His own people walked through.

Think of David. He was not a stained-glass saint. He knew what it felt like to be hunted, to have his soul downcast within him, to cry out from a dark pit. His psalms are not tidy; they are ragged with despair and yet always, somehow, they turn the corner into remembering. That is worth noticing. When the darkness closed in, he spoke it aloud to God, and then he deliberately rehearsed what God had done before. There is a whole category of psalms given over to declaring the record of God’s works, not ignoring the pain, but stacking deliverance after deliverance next to it until hope broke through.

That is not a magic formula, but it is spiritual reality. You have felt this way for years, and I cannot pretend that is small. But even David’s mighty men found themselves standing in a field surrounded by an enemy army, and they did not prevail because they were superhuman. They stood their ground and the Lord saved them by a great deliverance. The temptation to let go is real; the sea of it seems endless. But the fact that you reached out tells me a part of you is still standing in that field, still humbling yourself before God, and that is never overlooked. There is a moment in Scripture where the Lord saw people humble themselves, and He said, “Because they have humbled themselves, I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some deliverance.” He holds back wrath for the broken in spirit.

Do not let the lie persist that you should be beyond this by now, or that a true believer would not feel this way. David was a man, subject to the same fragility and temptations any of us face. Your struggle does not disqualify you; it puts you in the company of those who learn to cry out until the morning dawns. I am praying that even now you would sense a small, quiet shift, a handhold of deliverance, a reason to take the next breath, and that you would let others stand with you in this field until you see the Philistines scattered. Please, do not isolate yourself. Let someone nearby know exactly where you are. The God who recorded every deliverance for David still writes the same kind of story for those who wait on Him.
