Feeling Defeated

It is understandable to feel defeated after five months of trying everything you can to sell your home with no result. When you have done what you know to do and the walls still seem to be rubble and progress is torn down, it is very demoralizing. Discouragement is one of the most effective tools the enemy uses. He will use opposition from without and discouraging words and setbacks to try to wear you down and make you fear that God has forgotten you.

When fear grips the heart it is often because we have forgotten the Lord in the moment of struggle. Scripture calls us to remember the Lord. He is with you, He sees your situation, and He will give you strength. You do not need to be afraid of the obstacles, the slow market, or even the failure of those you hired to help. The Lord who is faithful to His people has not cast you off. Even when His people have felt scattered and defeated, as David and his men did after a painful defeat, they cried out, turn to us again. And God gives a banner to those who fear Him, a sign of His truth and His victory, so that what feels like defeat can be turned to a song of trust.

In this season while your earthly home feels unsettled, it is good to ask a deeper question about your heart as a home. The Scripture speaks of Christ dwelling in our hearts by faith, which means to settle down and make Himself at home there, to be comfortable and at ease. Is He at home in your heart right now in the midst of this disappointment. When He looks on the walls of your heart, does He find faith and love, or anxiety and striving. To be rooted and grounded in His love is more secure than any house. That love can keep you steady while you wait, and it can flow out of you even when circumstances are frustrating.

God has purposes for your lives that go beyond this one transaction. He has not left you here without meaning, and He will fulfill what He has for you in His time. Sometimes His timing is not ours, and waiting is part of how He teaches us to trust Him rather than our own plans or the efforts of others.

Let us pray together. Father, we lift this dear family to You in the name of Jesus. You know their need for a smaller home and the weariness of five months of waiting and disappointment. Lord, turn to them again and show Your mercy. Remember them and give them strength and peace. Let Christ be at home in their hearts by faith, rooted and grounded in Your love, so that even in this unsettled time they know Your comfort. We ask that You would open the right door in Your perfect timing, provide the buyer You have chosen, and give wisdom to all involved. If it is Your will, make a way where there seems to be no way, and help them to raise a banner of trust in Your truth. When they feel overwhelmed, lead them to the Rock that is higher than they are. Bring them from this feeling of defeat into confidence and quiet rest in You. We ask this in the name of Jesus, our only hope and Savior. Amen.
