Fear and anxiety

Thankyou god . Thankyou to all whom have been praying for me. My anxiety has eased and I am feeling at peace. I want to forgive my mother but don't want to reconcile with her. I don't see her that often and would prefer to keep it this way. I don't trust her.

We rejoice with you and give thanks to God with you that your anxiety has eased and you are feeling His peace. This is the peace He promises when we bring our cares to Him. Philippians 4:6-7 says In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. And 1 Peter 5:7 reminds us to cast all your worries on him, because he cares for you. We pray you will continue to rest in that care, for God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control as we read in 2 Timothy 1:7, and Jesus Himself said in John 14:27 Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you.

We also hear your heart regarding your mother. You desire to forgive her but you do not want to reconcile closely at this time and you do not trust her, preferring to keep some distance. We want to gently share what Scripture teaches about this, because forgiveness and reconciliation, while related, are not the same. We are commanded to forgive from the heart as God in Christ forgave us. Ephesians 4:32 says Be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. And Colossians 3:13 says bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any, even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. Forgiveness is an act of obedience and release, letting go of bitterness and vengeance and entrusting justice to God, so that no root of bitterness springing up trouble you as warned in Hebrews 12:15.

Reconciliation, however, requires more than our forgiveness alone. It involves repentance, truth, and the rebuilding of trust over time. Luke 17:3 says If your brother sins, rebuke him. If he repents, forgive him. Trust is earned and wisdom calls us to guard our hearts. At the same time we are called to honor our father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise in Exodus 20:12 and Ephesians 6:2-3, and to live at peace as far as it depends on us in Romans 12:18. Honoring does not always mean close daily fellowship or placing yourself in a position to be hurt again, especially if there has been harm or unrepentant behavior. It can mean speaking respectfully, praying for her, wishing her good, forgiving fully, and maintaining appropriate boundaries with love. Keeping a respectful distance while you keep a forgiving heart is not unforgiveness, it can be wisdom, but we encourage you to examine your heart to be sure distance is from wisdom and not from lingering bitterness or unwillingness to ever be open to healing if God brings repentance and change.

We also noticed you thanked God but did not mention Jesus Christ in your request, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and experience this true peace. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. It is by believing in Jesus, that He died for our sins and rose again, and confessing Him as Lord, that we are saved and our prayers are heard. Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. We encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ if you have not already, and to come to God always in His name.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we thank You in the name of Jesus Christ for hearing our prayers and for easing our dear one's fear and anxiety and giving peace that surpasses understanding. We thank You for Your care and Your nearness. We ask You to continue to guard this heart and mind in Christ Jesus and to deepen this peace day by day as cares are cast upon You. Teach us to forgive as You have forgiven us, to release all bitterness and resentment, and to walk in love and kindness. Give wisdom regarding this mother and daughter relationship. Help to honor a mother while also exercising godly wisdom and boundaries. Heal past wounds, restore what is broken according to Your will, and give discernment to know when to keep distance and when to open the door to more fellowship, keeping a heart always ready to forgive. Build trust only where it is safe and earned, and let reconciliation, if it is Your will, be marked by truth and repentance. Draw this dear one ever closer to Jesus, that all prayer and thanksgiving would be through Him, and let Your perfect love cast out all fear, for we know Isaiah 41:10 says Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.

We're thankful with you that the anxiety has lifted and you are feeling more at peace. That's a real gift, and we join you in giving thanks for it.

What you describe about your mother makes a lot of sense. Wanting to forgive while also choosing to keep distance and not fully reconcile is not a contradiction. Forgiveness is largely an inner work, releasing resentment and choosing not to pursue revenge, while reconciliation is about rebuilding a relationship, which takes mutual trust over time. It's understandable you would want the first without feeling ready for the second, especially when trust hasn't been restored.

Keeping limited contact can be a healthy way to protect your heart and protect the peace God is giving you right now. Boundaries help us take responsibility for our own wellbeing and be clear about our yes and our no, staying connected where we choose while still staying free to make wise choices for ourselves.

A gentle next step might be to get clear, even just for yourself, what forgiveness looks like for you and what boundaries help you keep that peace, for example how often contact feels sustainable and what you need to feel safe when you do see her. Talking that through with a trusted pastor or counselor can make it steadier.

Father, thank You for the peace You have given. We ask You to continue that healing, to deepen forgiveness in its own time, and to give wisdom for boundaries that are both loving and protective. Keep guiding with Your calm presence. In Jesus' name, amen.

Lord Jesus please richly bless, protect and guide them. Please help them in accordance with your perfect will Father. Thank you and praise you. In your holy name I pray. Amen.

How gracious is our God to have heard the prayers offered for you and to have lifted in some measure that heavy cloud of fear and anxiety and given you peace in its place. We give thanks with you for this mercy, and we pray that the peace you now feel may not be a passing calm but a deep and abiding rest as you continue to trust Him who alone can keep the heart and mind.

You speak of a desire to forgive your mother while not yet desiring to be closely reconciled, and of a want of trust which makes distance seem wisest. This is an honest confession and it shows that the Spirit is working in you to will what is right. Hear what the Scripture says, There is forgiveness with Thee that Thou mayest be feared. All true forgiveness comes first from God, through Jesus Christ His Son. I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions for Mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins. If you have put your trust in the atoning sacrifice, then God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. It is without money and without price, complete and eternal, not because you have earned it but because Christ has borne the debt. Gethsemane, Gabbatha, Golgotha prove beyond controversy that there is forgiveness even for the chief of sinners.

We are then called to study that pattern and to copy it. Even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. This forgiveness is the releasing of the debt. As in the year of release the creditor was to forgive the debtor absolutely, so we are to release those who have sinned against us from all claim of vengeance, bitterness and demand for repayment. We are to wish them good and not evil, to pray for them and to keep no record of wrong in the heart. In this sense, to forgive from the heart is not optional for the Christian, it is the natural fruit of having been so freely forgiven ourselves.

Yet forgiveness and trust are not the same thing, and reconciliation in its full sense requires more than one heart alone. Our Lord forgives without a but, and He will never cast out one who comes to Him. He says, I will not remember thy sins, and He can do so because He both knows the heart and has power to make it new. With men it is otherwise. Wisdom teaches us that while we must forgive and love, we are not commanded to entrust ourselves again where trust has been broken and where there is no evidence of repentance and change. You may forgive fully and still, in prudence and love both for yourself and for your mother, keep a measure of distance for a season. That distance is not unforgiveness. It is stewardship of the peace God has begun to give you.

Do not let fear return under another form. You have learned a little of what it is to trust Jesus Christ just as you are, without waiting for perfect feelings. Continue there. Only trust Him. Trust Him as you sink and you shall swim. Trust Him as you feel yourself weak and you shall live. Man may fail, even those nearest to us may fail, but there is One who never fails those who put their confidence in Him. He will set you free and load you daily with His benefits if you trust His dear Son.

Seek then to make your forgiveness complete before God. Tell Him you release the debt, you ask Him to bless your mother with the same mercy you have received, and you leave judgment in His hands. Then ask Him for wisdom how to walk henceforth, whether nearness or distance best serves holiness and peace. Take counsel with a mature and godly pastor or believer who knows you, that you may not walk alone in this. And if the Lord in His providence should in time work repentance and renewal, He can open a door for a safer and truer fellowship. If not, you can still live in quiet love, honoring your mother as Scripture commands, praying for her, doing her no harm, yet guarding your heart with all diligence.

May the Lord keep that peace which now comforts you, and may He perfect His work in you, giving you both a forgiving heart like Christ's and a wise walk before Him.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
