We come before the throne of grace with hearts aligned to the pattern of prayer our Lord Jesus taught us, lifting up the truth that seeking God’s kingdom and righteousness must always come first. You’ve rightly pointed us to Matthew 6:33, which says, "But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well." This is not merely a suggestion, it is a divine promise for those who place their trust in Him. We rejoice in your commitment to honor the Father’s glory above all else, for this is the foundation upon which all true provision, protection, and right relationships are built.

The Lord’s Prayer is a beautiful framework, reminding us that our first priority is the hallowing of God’s name, the coming of His kingdom, and the doing of His will on earth as it is in heaven. Only after these things are settled in our hearts do we bring our needs before Him, our daily bread, forgiveness, and deliverance from evil. This order is critical, for when we reverse it, we risk making our desires the center of our prayers rather than God’s purposes. We must guard against the subtle temptation to treat prayer as a transaction rather than a relationship, where we come not just to receive but to worship and surrender.

Let us also reflect on the call to forgiveness in this prayer. Jesus makes it clear in Matthew 6:14-15: "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." This is a sobering truth. Unforgiveness in our hearts is a barrier between us and God, and it poisons our relationships with others. If there is anyone you are struggling to forgive, we encourage you to release that burden to the Lord today. Forgiveness is not about excusing wrongdoing but about freeing yourself from the chains of bitterness so that you may walk in the freedom Christ died to give you.

We also lift up the matter of your relationship with God and others. The Scriptures tell us in 1 John 4:20-21, "If a man says, β€˜I love God,’ and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who doesn’t love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? This commandment we have from him, that he who loves God should also love his brother." Our love for God is directly reflected in how we love and treat others. Are there relationships in your life that need mending or boundaries that need to be set according to God’s Word? We pray that the Holy Spirit would guide you in walking in love, humility, and wisdom with those around you.

Now, let us come before the Lord in prayer:

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your faithfulness and for the privilege of coming before You in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. We declare that Your name is holy, Your kingdom is eternal, and Your will is perfect. Lord, we ask that You would align our hearts with Yours, that we would seek first Your kingdom and righteousness above all else. Forgive us, Father, for the times we have allowed our desires to take precedence over Your will. Cleanse us from any unforgiveness, bitterness, or pride that may be hindering our prayers or our relationships with others.

Father, we ask for Your provision in every area of our lives, not just our physical needs, but also our spiritual, emotional, and relational needs. Provide us with our daily bread, and help us to trust You even when the path ahead is uncertain. We pray for protection over our lives, our families, and our communities. Guard our hearts and minds from the schemes of the enemy, and deliver us from every form of evil.

Lord, we also pray for godly relationships that honor You. If we are single, prepare us for the spouse You have for us, and help us to wait patiently and purely, keeping ourselves for marriage as You have designed. If we are married, strengthen our unions, that they would reflect the love and commitment of Christ and the Church. Help us to love one another as You have loved us, with patience, kindness, and selflessness.

Above all, Father, we ask that Your kingdom would come and Your will would be done in our lives and in this world. May Your glory be our ultimate pursuit, and may we live in such a way that others see Your light shining through us. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

Let us hold fast to the truth that God is our Provider, Protector, and the One who orders our steps. As we seek Him first, He will not fail to meet our needs according to His riches in glory. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, and trust that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus (Philippians 1:6). Walk in obedience, in love, and in the power of the Holy Spirit, knowing that your labor in the Lord is never in vain.

Thank you for inviting us to pray with you. The way you’ve ordered your heart, desiring the Father’s glory and His kingdom before laying out your own needs, is a steadying thing. It doesn’t bypass what you’re lacking or the battles you face; it just puts them in the safest place they could be. We’re glad to join you there.

One of the quiet strengths believers have always drawn on is simply knowing others are holding them before God. Even when words feel thin, that knowledge brings comfort. So please hear this: you are not praying alone today. We are with you, and a whole community of faith stands beside you, bringing these same requests to our Father.

We join you now in doing what you asked. Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Let Your kingdom come and Your will be done in us as it is done in heaven. Give us this day what we truly need. Forgive us, as we forgive those who hurt us, and lead us away from temptation, deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

To seek first the kingdom and the glory of our Father is to anchor prayer where it belongs, upon the throne of grace with the honor of God uppermost. The pattern of prayer our Lord gave places His name, His kingdom, and His will before our daily bread. That is a sweet and right order; let it never be reversed, for when God is glorified in our petitions we may ask what we will and it shall be done. Yet observe how near to the front stands the plea for forgiveness. No sooner do we ask for bread than we cry, β€œForgive us our debts.” And that is the true prayer of every soul that has been awakened. There is forgiveness, there is forgiveness with God, that He may be feared. He is still the God who for His own sake blots out transgressions and remembers sin no more. If sin lies heavy upon you, this is the brightest beam in all the gospel: β€œThere is forgiveness.”

Do not let conscience roar so loudly that you miss the silver note of the harp, there is forgiveness. Not a pardon fenced about with uncertainties, but a present, full, eternal acquittal for every sinner that casts himself upon Christ. Our Lord showed this when He said to the palsied man, β€œMan, thy sins be forgiven thee,” before He touched his body. The greater healing came first. So in all your seeking of God’s kingdom and righteousness, lay hold of this: the righteousness of Christ is yours the moment you trust Him, and with it the continual flow of forgiving grace. We are not merely washed once and then left to our own keeping; we are forgiven daily as we confess, for the fountain filled with blood never ceases its cleansing power. Take that home: β€œThou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.”

And then, with your debts cancelled, ask boldly for daily bread. He who gave His Son will deny no good thing to them that walk uprightly. The same hand that blots out sin provides the loaf. Only remember that bread is not merely for the body; the soul must feed on Him who is the living bread. Seek the bread that endures to everlasting life, and all else shall be added. And when temptation howls like a lion, remember you go not to battle alone. The deliverance is as sure as the forgiveness. He who said, β€œI have forgiven,” will also say, β€œI will deliver.” The kingdom, the power, and the glory are His, therefore your soul may wait in hope, for He is faithful that promised. Press forward with this confidence: there is forgiveness, there is provision, there is protection, for the Lord’s portion is His people. Let His glory be your chief end, and you shall find that in seeking His kingdom you have touched the joy that makes every other care grow strangely dim.
