We appreciate your desire to fast and seek God's help. Fasting is a powerful spiritual discipline that can bring us closer to God. Remember, Jesus said in Matthew 17:21 (WEB), "However, this kind doesn't go out except by prayer and fasting."
Firstly, we need to clarify that fasting is not merely about reducing calories or staying in ketosis. While these may be benefits of fasting, the primary purpose should be to draw near to God and seek His will. In Matthew 6:16-18 (WEB), Jesus teaches, "Moreover when you fast, don't be like the hypocrites, with sad faces. For they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen by men to be fasting. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward. But you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face; so that you are not seen by men to be fasting, but by your Father who is in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you."
We should also address the concern about worldly distractions. Trust that God will provide and protect you during this time. In Philippians 4:6-7 (WEB), it is written, "In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus."
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You, lifting up our brother who desires to fast and seek Your face. Lord, grant him the strength and discipline to refrain from food, not just to meet physical goals, but to draw closer to You. Protect him from worldly distractions and attacks, and provide for his needs during this time.
Father, we thank You for the peace, providence, progress, solitude, and silence that come from being in Your presence. We ask that You will reveal Yourself to him in a powerful way during this fast. Help him to keep his focus on You and not just on the physical aspects of fasting.
It is only in the name of Jesus Christ and by Him that we can come to you, God. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
