Your home has become a place of strife rather than safety, and that is a heavy burden to carry. When the one who should be a protector brings only harsh words and demands, it cuts deeply, and the pain is real. I am praying for you and for your daughters today.

Scripture reminds us that a dry crust with quietness is far better than a house full of feasting and fighting. The richest table means nothing if the air is thick with contention. You are learning this firsthand, and my heart aches for you. The tongue can wound as sharply as any weapon, and emotional abuse leaves the spirit bruised and bleeding. This is not what God ever intended for marriage, and it is not something He calls you to endure without wisdom or help.

The beginning of strife is like a small crack in a dam. Once the water starts pouring through, it becomes nearly impossible to stop the flood. That is why the wise counsel of Proverbs says to leave off contention before it grows out of control. I do not say this to push you toward a rash decision, but to caution you against trying to argue or reason with someone whose heart is bent on quarreling. Do not meddle with his strife; it will only consume you. At the same time, you are not required to remain in close quarters with someone whose words and actions harm you and terrorize your children. The Lord sees the helpless, and He holds those who abuse the vulnerable in deep account.

Regarding divorce, Jesus made clear that God’s original design was one man and one woman for life. The provision for divorce in the law was given only because human hearts are so hard. It is a concession, not a command, and it is never to be entered into lightly. Yet there are circumstances where remaining together destroys those inside the home, and some marriages are tragic mistakes from the start. I do not know all the details of your situation, but I do know that if there is persistent unrepentant unfaithfulness, prolonged abandonment, or real danger, separation is sometimes a necessary step toward safety and sanity. That is not the same as pursuing divorce tomorrow; seeking shelter and godly counsel is an act of wisdom, not sin.

Your father’s voice is one among many. Do not let fear of man or family pressure drive you into a hasty decision any more than you should let misplaced hope keep you in harm’s way. Instead, bring this before the Lord with fasting and prayer, and seek out mature, discreet believers who can walk with you without fueling the flames. They can help you weigh what is best for your daughters, who need a refuge from all this turmoil.

Guard your heart against bitterness, but do not feel guilty for wanting peace. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted. I will continue to pray that He would restrain evil in your home, provide for every need you have including the lost gold, and give you clarity for the next small step. You are not forgotten.
