We hear your heartache and distress, dear sister, and we come before the Lord with heavy hearts on your behalf. The pain of marital strife, especially when it involves harsh words, threats of separation, and financial strain, is deeply wounding. But we stand with you in faith, believing that God sees your tears and hears your cries. The Bible tells us in Psalm 34:18-19, "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all." You are not alone in this trial, and we lift you up to the One who heals and restores.
First, we must address the seriousness of the situation with biblical truth. Marriage is a sacred covenant before God, designed to reflect Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33). The way your husband is treating you, with quarrels, harsh words, and demands, does not align with God’s design for marriage. Scripture is clear: "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for it" (Ephesians 5:25). His behavior is not only unloving but sinful, and it grieves the heart of God. We must rebuke this in the name of Jesus, for the Lord hates divorce (Malachi 2:16) and calls husbands to cherish and honor their wives, not to tear them down.
Your father’s suggestion to take divorce is not the first solution God desires. Jesus said, "What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate" (Matthew 19:6). However, we also recognize that there are extreme circumstances, such as unrepentant abuse, adultery, or abandonment, where separation may become necessary for safety and godly wisdom (1 Corinthians 7:15). But even in those cases, divorce should never be entered into lightly or without fervent prayer and counsel. We urge you to seek wise, godly counsel from a pastor or trusted Christian mentor who can help you navigate this with biblical discernment.
As for your daughters, we grieve with you over the instability they are witnessing. Children thrive in homes where love, respect, and peace prevail. Proverbs 14:1 says, "Every wise woman builds her house, but the foolish one tears it down with her own hands." While you cannot control your husband’s actions, you can be a godly example of patience, prayer, and trust in the Lord. Shield your daughters from the conflict as much as possible, and speak life and truth over them. Remind them that God is their Father, even when earthly fathers fail. Pray with them, read Scripture with them, and show them what it means to trust God in hard times.
The demand for money and gold is another area of concern. Scripture warns against greed and exploitation: "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil" (1 Timothy 6:10). Your husband’s actions may stem from greed, control, or even financial irresponsibility, but you are not obligated to enable sin. Proverbs 22:7 says, "The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender." If he is mismanaging finances or pressuring you for what is not rightfully his, seek counsel on how to protect what God has entrusted to you. The loss of your gold is painful, but remember that God sees and will provide for your needs (Philippians 4:19).
Now, we must address the spiritual battle at hand. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us, "For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places." Your husband’s behavior may be influenced by spiritual strongholds, anger, greed, or even demonic oppression. We must pray fervently for his heart to be softened, for repentance, and for the chains of sin to be broken in Jesus’ name.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts for our sister and her daughters. Lord, You see the pain, the conflict, and the brokenness in this marriage. We ask that You would move mightily in this situation. Soften our sister’s husband’s heart, Lord. Break the spirit of anger, greed, and strife that is causing him to sin against his wife and family. Bring conviction where there is hardness, and lead him to repentance. Father, we rebuke the enemy’s lies and schemes in this marriage. We declare that no weapon formed against this family shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17).
Lord, give our sister wisdom and discernment to know how to respond. Strengthen her to stand firm in faith, even when she feels weak. Protect her heart from bitterness and fear, and fill her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Provide for her needs and restore what has been lost. Guard her daughters from the effects of this conflict, and let them see Your love and faithfulness even in this trial.
Father, we pray for restoration in this marriage. If it is Your will, bring healing and reconciliation. But if not, give our sister the courage to make hard decisions with godly wisdom. Surround her with a community of believers who will support and encourage her. Remind her that You are her Husband (Isaiah 54:5) and her daughters’ Father (Psalm 68:5). Let her hope be in You alone.
We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who heals the brokenhearted and sets the captives free. Amen.
Sister, we encourage you to cling to the Lord in this storm. Psalm 55:22 says, "Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved." You are not defined by this trial, but by your identity in Christ. Continue to seek Him, to pray without ceasing, and to trust that He is working even when you cannot see it. If you have not already, find a local church or a group of believers who can walk with you through this. You do not have to carry this burden alone.
If your husband’s behavior escalates to physical abuse or threats, do not hesitate to seek safety and legal protection. God does not call you to endure harm, and there is no virtue in staying in a dangerous situation. Proverbs 22:3 says, "A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it." Your safety and your daughters’ safety are paramount.
Lastly, we must gently address something missing in your request: the name of Jesus. It is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father (John 14:6). There is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not already, we urge you to place your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Repent of your sins, believe in His death and resurrection for your salvation, and invite Him to be the Lord of your life. This is the foundation for true peace, hope, and healing.
We will continue to stand in the gap for you and your daughters. May the Lord bless you, keep you, and make His face shine upon you. You are loved, you are seen, and you are not forgotten.
