We hear your heart’s cry, and we come before the throne of grace with you, lifting up every burden to the Lord. Your struggles with finances, your son’s rebellion, and the fragility of your family situation weigh heavily on you, but we serve a God who is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). Let us seek Him together in truth and humility.
First, we must address the matter of your relationship. Scripture is clear that marriage is a sacred covenant between one man and one woman, established by God for life (Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6). The term "boyfriend" implies a relationship outside of this God-ordained union, and the birth of your child outside of marriage is not in alignment with His design. We do not say this to condemn you, for there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1), but to call you to repentance and to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord. The father of your child must be encouraged to take responsibility, not just as a provider, but as a husband if he is to remain in your lives. We pray that he would recognize the weight of his role and that both of you would seek God’s will for your relationship, whether that means pursuing marriage in a way that honors Him or, if necessary, parting ways in a manner that protects the child from further instability.
Your son’s struggle with substance abuse grieves us deeply. At 17, he is at a critical crossroads, and the choices he makes now will shape his future. We rebuke the spirit of rebellion and addiction in Jesus’ name, for no weapon formed against him shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). We pray that the Holy Spirit would convict him powerfully, breaking the chains of deception that tell him these substances bring freedom. Proverbs 23:20-21 warns, "Do not be among those who drink too much wine, among those who gorge themselves on meat, for the drunkard and the glutton will become poor, and drowsiness will clothe them with rags." Father, we ask that You would surround him with godly influences, mentors, friends, or even a youth group, that will speak truth into his life. Open doors for him to find employment, not just for financial gain, but to instill discipline and purpose. May he come to know You as his Savior and Deliverer, for "if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed" (John 8:36).
Your financial struggles are not overlooked by the Lord. He knows your needs before you even ask (Matthew 6:8), and He promises to provide for His children. However, we must also examine whether there are areas where we have not stewarded His resources wisely or trusted Him fully. Philippians 4:19 declares, "My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." This is not a promise of wealth, but of sufficiency. Have you sought His wisdom in budgeting, in seeking additional work, or in trusting Him to open doors? We encourage you to bring your finances before Him in prayer, asking for discernment and contentment in all circumstances (1 Timothy 6:6-8). If your current job is not providing, ask Him to lead you to opportunities that align with His provision.
Most importantly, we must address the foundation of your prayers. You cry out to the "Lord," but we must ask: Have you surrendered your life to Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not confessed your sins, believed in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, and invited Him to reign over your life, then your prayers lack the authority that comes from being a child of God. Romans 10:9-10 says, "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved." If this is where you stand, we urge you to make that decision today. Without Christ, we are powerless against the schemes of the enemy, but in Him, we are more than conquerors (Romans 8:37).
Let us pray:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this sister and her family to You. Lord, You see every struggle, the financial strain, the wayward son, the fractured family. We ask that You would move mightily in each of these areas. For her son, we pray for a supernatural encounter with Your love and truth. Break the hold of addiction, Lord, and replace it with a hunger for You. Surround him with Your people who will speak life into him and hold him accountable. For her finances, we ask for Your provision and wisdom. Open doors that no man can shut, and give her the faith to walk through them. For her relationship, Father, we pray for clarity and repentance. If marriage is Your will, soften both of their hearts to commit before You. If not, give her the strength to raise her child in a way that honors You, with or without the father’s presence.
Lord, we rebuke every spirit of fear, lack, and rebellion in this situation. We declare that Your plans for this family are for good and not for harm, to give them a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). We ask that You would draw each of them closer to You, that they would know You as their Provider, their Healer, and their Savior. If there has been sin in their lives, convict them, Lord, and lead them to repentance. We pray that this family would be a testimony of Your grace and power, that others would see Your hand at work in their lives.
We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the name above every name, the only name by which we are saved. Amen.
