Falling into sin

I have been falling into lust. I have been watching porn and masturbating. I have tried to stop and I'm usually only successful for a month or so. How do I stop? I don't want to feel this way anyway. I pray for forgiveness but I feel like what if I'm not being genuine. I'm scared that I'm going to hell and that I'm making God angry. What do I do? Please pray for ###.

We hear your struggle and the deep conviction in your heart, and we stand with you before the throne of grace, lifting you up in prayer. The battle against lust and sexual sin is one many believers face, but take heart—God’s mercy is greater than our weakness, and His strength is made perfect in our brokenness. You are not alone in this fight, and there is hope in Christ.

First, we must address this sin with the seriousness it deserves. The Bible is clear that sexual immorality—including lust, pornography, and masturbation—defiles the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:18-20). Jesus Himself warned that even looking at someone with lust is adultery in the heart (Matthew 5:28). This is not to condemn you further, but to remind you of the high standard God calls us to as His children. Yet, Scripture also tells us that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Your repentance is not in vain, even if the struggle feels relentless.

The fear of not being genuine in your repentance is a common tactic of the enemy to keep you trapped in shame. But remember, God looks at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7). If you are truly grieved by this sin and desire to turn from it, that is the work of the Holy Spirit in you. The fact that you are reaching out and seeking help is evidence of His grace at work. Do not let doubt rob you of the assurance of His forgiveness. The blood of Jesus covers all sin for those who come to Him in faith (Hebrews 10:19-22).

Now, let us talk about how to walk in victory. Repentance is not just feeling sorry—it is turning away and taking action. Here are some biblical steps to help you break free:

1. **Flee Temptation** – Joseph ran from Potiphar’s wife when she tried to seduce him (Genesis 39:12). You must do the same. Remove access to pornography—install accountability software, get rid of devices or apps that lead you into sin, and avoid places or situations where you are vulnerable.

2. **Guard Your Heart and Mind** – Philippians 4:8 tells us to think on whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. Fill your mind with Scripture, worship, and godly content. When lustful thoughts arise, replace them with prayer or Scripture memorization.

3. **Accountability** – Confess your struggle to a trusted, mature believer who can pray with you and hold you accountable (James 5:16). Isolation is the enemy’s playground—walk in the light with others.

4. **Renew Your Mind** – Romans 12:2 says, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." Study God’s Word on purity (e.g., Psalm 51, 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5, Ephesians 5:3-4) and meditate on His truth.

5. **Fast and Pray** – Sometimes, we need to deny our flesh to strengthen our spirit. Consider fasting from media, entertainment, or even food for a time to seek God’s face and break the hold of this sin.

6. **Remember Your Identity** – You are not defined by your sin but by Christ. You are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), redeemed and set apart for holiness. When shame tries to whisper lies, preach the truth of the Gospel to yourself.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother who is struggling with lust and sexual sin. Lord, we thank You that he has come to You with a repentant heart, and we ask that You would meet him in his weakness. Forgive him, Father, for every time he has fallen short, and cleanse him by the blood of Jesus. Break the chains of this sin in his life, and fill him with Your Holy Spirit to walk in purity and self-control.

We rebuke the spirit of lust and shame in Jesus’ name. We declare that no weapon formed against him will prosper (Isaiah 54:17). Strengthen him, Lord, to flee temptation and to stand firm in Your truth. Surround him with godly accountability and remind him daily of his identity in Christ. Let him experience the freedom and joy that comes from walking in holiness.

We pray for a fresh outpouring of Your grace and power in his life. May he know the depth of Your love and the assurance of Your forgiveness. Help him to fix his eyes on You, the author and perfecter of his faith. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.

Do not lose heart, dear brother. The fact that you are fighting this battle is evidence that God is at work in you. Every time you resist temptation, you are growing stronger in Him. Keep pressing into His presence, and do not give up. The enemy wants you to believe that you are beyond hope, but God’s Word says that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion (Philippians 1:6). You are not going to hell—you are being refined for His glory. Keep running to Jesus, and He will lead you into victory.

We've heard some great advice already, but we want to add a few things from our own experiences. First, remember that God is always with you. In times of temptation, call out to Him. He promises in Matthew 28:20, "And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age." Knowing that He's right there with you can help you resist temptation.

Also, consider finding a support group or a mentor who can walk alongside you in this journey. Having a community of believers who understand what you're going through can be incredibly helpful. It's like having cheerleaders on the sidelines, encouraging you to keep going.

Lastly, brother, please be kind to yourself. Change takes time, and it's normal to have setbacks. Don't let guilt or shame keep you from pressing on. Instead, use those feelings as motivation to turn back to God. As it says in Romans 8:1, "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus."

Praying for you and your request in Jesus. Did you know that there are deliverance videos online that we can watch repeatedly? How much of the Bible do you know? The only reason I ask is because Jesus Did, Does and Will Do Everything for Us all and He gave us promises that we can claim in Jesus over ourselves and our loved ones and honestly if you have Jesus then You have His Righteousness and the Father can’t be angry with us for ignorantly disobeying Him.

Have we ever really meditated on Matthew 6 where Jesus instructs us to take no thought for our lives? I have looked at this in terms of the rest of the Bible where I have learned to claim His Promises in Jesus and take on His thoughts for my life. Thank You Lord Jesus for Blessing me to learn to stop thinking about my life, learn to take on Your thoughts for my life and so much more for Your Glory and my good in Jesus! Amen! Thank You Jesus! There is nothing that happens for us that is bad except our thoughts about what is happening to us. The Bible says All things work together for our good in Jesus! Look at everything as good!

I wanted to commit suicide once, I even came up with a plan. Right before I headed out the door I posted a prayer on here and hoping there might be help from God one last time I opened the Bible and only read take no thought for your life from Matthew 6. I read that before at least 100 times but never really could understand how. This time I took it to heart, all right God I will end my life by not thinking about it. I take no thought, I take no thought, I take no thought over and over and over again I take no thought was my only thought that day. All of a sudden I noticed something, Jesus showed up, all my pains were gone, no neck ache, no back pain, no leg pain from many many accidents I had over the years and no pain in my heart as my wife had left me. I started singing praises and thanks to Jesus and my life has never been the same. My wife returned. It is our obedience to God from His Holy Instructions that makes a difference to His Power of His Promises in our lives.

Be a doer of Jesus friend, it really makes a difference! Thank You Lord Jesus! All things work together for my good in Jesus!

Search the Bible for Jesus' Promises friend, do them and claim them in Jesus! Amen! Thank You Lord Jesus! Glory to You Lord Jesus!!!

Powerful healing promise hidden in Proverbs 3:7-8, I am not wise in my own eyes, I fear You Lord, I depart from evil, especially my own evil thoughts and my flesh is healed and my body is refreshed in Jesus.

Let Us Pray: God I ask in Jesus' name, bless me to grow closer to You. I long for a more intimate relationship with You. Bless me daily to cast off and forsake my thoughts and ways for my life, and exchange them for Your thoughts and ways for my life. Let me think Your thoughts and dream Your dreams for my life. God bless me to live and walk in Your love, mercy and forgiveness (Isaiah 55:7). I confess, I will take no thought for my life. I will trust You Father God to take thought for me and take care of me (Mathew 6:25-34). I will not be wise in my own eyes, I will fear You Lord and depart from evil and my flesh will be healed and my body will be refreshed (Proverbs 3:7-8) daily. Thank You Jesus for Your Promises! Lord make me the Child of God You need me to be in Christ for all those around me and for the world to see (Psalms 128:3). Not by my might, nor by my power, but by Your Spirt Christ Jesus (Zechariah 4:6) this shall happen. And it will happen, it is happening now in Your timing, Power, Strength, Might, and Spirit, Christ Jesus. God all that I have asked of you in this prayer please do the same for all those I love, care about, and every faithful prayer warrior on this site. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You Lord Jesus, my Savior and Lord for answering this prayer with a Yes and Amen.
