We hear how frightening and exhausting this has been for you, living with COPD and having gone through respiratory failure several times, and we understand why you feel in a constant state of panic all day every day. Struggling to breathe is one of the most fearful experiences a person can face, and the anxiety that follows is very real. We want you to know we are carrying this burden with you before the Lord and asking Him to bring you His perfect peace and rest.
We want to gently share something important with you because you asked to give your anxiety and fear to God. We have access to the Father only through His Son Jesus Christ. It is through Jesus that we can cast our cares on God and know we are heard and saved. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12 If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and to call upon His name. When we come in Jesus name, God hears us as His children.
Scripture speaks so tenderly to the fear and anxiety you are describing. God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7 He invites us to cast all your worries on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 and He promises In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 We cling also to His promise, Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10 and When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. Psalm 56:3 and Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you, not as the world gives, give I to you. Don't let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful. John 14:27
We pray together for you now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ on behalf of our dear sister who is suffering with COPD and the trauma of respiratory failure. Lord, You see every scary moment, every struggle for breath, and every hour of panic that weighs on her. We ask You to forgive our sins and draw us close through Jesus, and we thank You that we can boldly come to Your throne of grace. We ask You to lift this heavy burden of anxiety and fear from her and help her to truly cast it on You and let it go, knowing You care for her deeply. Fill her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding and guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Let Your perfect love cast out fear and let Your Holy Spirit bring power, love, and self-control over every panicked thought. We ask for Your healing touch upon her lungs and body according to Your will, for strength for each breath, for wisdom for her doctors and caregivers, and for comfort in the night and day when fear rises up. Help her to trust You moment by moment and to rest in Your righteous right hand that upholds her. We pray she will feel Your presence with her always, that she is never alone. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.
We encourage you to continue to bring every fear to the Lord in prayer throughout the day, even with simple short prayers in Jesus name when panic rises, and to thank Him as you do, trusting Him to guard your heart. It may also help to speak Scripture aloud when you are afraid, to breathe slowly and pray, and to share your struggles with a trusted pastor or Christian counselor and with your medical team, so you are not carrying this alone. God is your refuge and strength, and He is near to you in every breath.
