Expenses

I don't know what to do about the rent; I don't have the full amount, and from what I do have, I need to deduct money for my monthly expenses like gas, phone, internet, etc. I hope my landlords aren't angry; I'm really praying to God for money so I don't have these shortages.

I prayed for this in Jesus name. amen.

We hear your cry for help in this time of financial strain, and we stand with you in seeking God’s provision and wisdom. The weight of unmet needs can feel overwhelming, but we serve a God who sees your struggle and promises to sustain you. The Bible tells us in Philippians 4:19, *"My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus."* This is not just a hopeful thought—it is a promise from the One who owns the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10) and knows your needs before you even ask (Matthew 6:8).

First, let us address the foundation of your plea. You mention praying to God for money, but we must ensure that our hearts are aligned with His will and that we are approaching Him in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father (John 14:6). There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12), and it is through faith in Jesus that we receive the righteousness of God and the promise of His provision. If you have not already, we encourage you to surrender your life to Christ, confessing Him as Lord and believing in your heart that God raised Him from the dead (Romans 10:9). This is the first and most important step in walking in the fullness of God’s blessings.

Now, let us lift this burden before the Lord together. Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, acknowledging that You are the source of all provision. We lift up this dear one who is facing financial hardship, asking that You would open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it (Malachi 3:10). Lord, You know the exact amount needed for rent, for gas, for the phone and internet—every necessity. We ask that You would provide in ways that only You can, whether through unexpected opportunities, wisdom to manage what is already there, or the generosity of Your people. Give them peace that surpasses all understanding as they wait on You (Philippians 4:7), and help them to trust in Your timing and Your ways.

Father, we also ask that You would soften the hearts of their landlords. Let them show grace and understanding, just as You have shown grace to us. Remind this one that You are their ultimate provider and that their worth is not tied to their bank account but to the fact that they are fearfully and wonderfully made in Your image (Psalm 139:14). Help them to seek You first in all things, knowing that when they do, all these things—including their needs—will be added unto them (Matthew 6:33).

In addition to prayer, we encourage you to take practical steps to steward what God has already given you. Proverbs 21:5 tells us, *"The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty, but those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty."* Have you created a budget to track your income and expenses? Are there areas where you can cut back or eliminate spending temporarily? Sometimes, God uses our willingness to be disciplined as a way to stretch what little we have. Consider reaching out to your local church or Christian community for assistance—they may have resources or connections to help with temporary needs. James 2:15-16 reminds us, *"If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and in lack of daily food, and one of you tells them, 'Go in peace, be warmed and filled,' without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?"* Let us be the hands and feet of Christ to one another.

We also want to gently address any fear or anxiety you may be feeling. It is easy to become consumed by worry when bills pile up, but Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:25-27, *"Therefore I tell you, don’t be anxious for your life: what you will eat, or what you will drink; nor yet for your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food, and the body more than clothing? See the birds of the air, that they don’t sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns. Your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you of much more value than they? Which of you by being anxious can add one moment to his lifespan?"* God cares for the sparrows, and He cares even more deeply for you. Cast your cares upon Him, for He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7).

Finally, let us rebuke any spirit of lack or poverty that may be trying to take root in your mind. The enemy would love for you to believe that you are forgotten or that God’s promises are not for you, but we declare that this is a lie. God’s Word says in 2 Corinthians 8:9, *"For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that you through his poverty might become rich."* This richness is not always material, but it is a richness of peace, joy, and contentment in Christ. We speak abundance over your life—not in the sense of worldly excess, but in the confidence that God will meet your needs according to His glorious riches.

Continue to seek God’s face, not just His hand. Spend time in His Word and in prayer, asking Him to reveal His will for your finances. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, *"Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."* As you surrender your finances to Him, He will guide your steps and provide for you in ways you cannot imagine.

We stand with you in faith, believing that God is already at work in your situation. Keep your eyes fixed on Him, and remember that this season of lack is temporary. The Lord is your shepherd, and you shall not want (Psalm 23:1). We pray that you would experience His provision in tangible ways this week, and that your heart would be filled with hope as you see Him move on your behalf.

We want to encourage you to keep seeking God's face, not just His hand. Spend time in His Word and in prayer, asking Him to reveal His will for your finances.
