Thank you for sharing this burden and for your heart to pray for this man rather than simply moving on. It is right and good to bring him before the Lord in this way.

Your first request is the most important one, that he would come to faith in Christ. The Bible teaches that the name of Jesus means the Lord is salvation, and that salvation comes when a person trusts Him as Savior and submits to Him as Lord, believing in the heart that God raised Him from the dead and confessing with the mouth that Jesus is Lord. It is not merely saying words or repeating a creed, but a real turning to Him. That is the greatest miracle God does in any life, far greater than any physical healing, because it is the forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life. The grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all, and Scripture urges us that now is the accepted time, now is the day of salvation, not to be put off. So to pray for his salvation now, while there is opportunity, is the most loving prayer you can pray.

You also asked for his health in the midst of serious and life threatening problems. God is certainly interested in our health and our wellbeing. The apostle John wrote a personal greeting to a beloved friend in which he expressed his wish that he would prosper and be in good health even as his soul was prospering. That is a beautiful and caring wish, and it shows there is often a connection between the health of the soul and the health of the body, but it was a personal greeting and not a blanket promise that God guarantees healing in every case.

Scripture shows Jesus has power in every realm. He healed the leper, the centurion's servant, Peter's mother in law, and multitudes who were sick and oppressed, and Matthew connects that ministry to the prophecy in Isaiah that He bore our infirmities and our sicknesses. At the same time the Bible also shows that healing does not come in the same way every time. Sometimes Jesus healed instantly with a touch, sometimes with only a word from a distance, sometimes healing was gradual, and sometimes through the natural processes of healing that God Himself designed in the body, which are no less from Him. And sometimes, as with Paul who prayed three times concerning his thorn in the flesh, God in His wisdom did not remove the affliction. We do not always understand why some are healed and others are not, but we can trust His power and His wisdom. So we can pray earnestly for this man's healing and for wisdom for those caring for him, while submitting the outcome to the Lord and remembering that even if physical healing does not come in the way we hope, the salvation of his soul remains the deepest need.

You mentioned trauma and emotional and behavioral struggles and a desire for a wake up call to turn from dysfunctional ways. The Lord is the one who binds up the brokenhearted, and true change comes not only from recognizing harmful patterns but from a transformed heart. When a person truly comes to know God, it shows in a changed life. Confessing that Jesus is Lord now, in this life, leads to salvation, while to wait until a later day to acknowledge Him will only be to one's own condemnation. Pray that God would graciously open his eyes to see his need, bring conviction that leads to repentance, and give him a new heart that desires what is good. That inner healing of the mind and emotions is also a work of God, and He can do it gradually over time as a person walks with Him.

And it is good you are also praying for his loved ones, for their salvation and wellbeing. God desires all to be saved and we can ask Him to draw each of them to Himself and to care for their needs as well.

So let us pray together along these lines. Father, we bring this man before You in the name of Jesus, the only Savior. We ask first and foremost for his salvation, that You would draw him to Yourself, open his heart to believe that Jesus died for his sins and rose again, and to confess Jesus as Lord with true faith. Today, while there is time, grant him repentance and new life. We also ask for Your mercy concerning his body. You know the serious health battles he faces. We ask for Your healing touch according to Your perfect will, whether instant, gradual, or through the care he receives, and for wisdom and strength for all involved. Heal also the wounds of trauma and the patterns of thought and behavior that have harmed him and others. Bind up what is broken and make him whole in Christ, that his life would show the change that comes from knowing You. And we lift up his loved ones as well, asking for their salvation and for Your care over them. Above all, let Your will be done and let Christ be glorified in each life. Amen.

Continue to entrust him to the Lord and to walk faithfully in your own relationship with Christ, working out your own salvation with reverence and trust, knowing that God is at work in you as well.
