Ex-boyfriend

Dhitlor

Good and Faithful Servant
Please pray for me because I think my relationship with my ex-boyfriend was emotionally and psychologically abusive in some ways. There was a big age gap of a few decades between us. Please pray about how that age gap may have been used to abuse me. Please pray for me to heal. Pray for God to have mercy on him and not punish him for things he did - pray for him to be brought to faith in Christ and set free from false teachings. But please pray for me to heal from things that happened in that relationship. Pray for him to heal if I did anything hurtful to him. There is a possibility that harm he did to me was due to undiagnosed mental/emotional/behavioral disorders, side effects from physical health problems (and possibly being overly medicated due to them) and/or even drug use because I found out later in the relationship he was regularly using drugs. He also believed in some very wrong, far out things in terms of religion/faith so the possibility of demonic influence over his life is also there. Not excusing any of his behavior just explaining some of the issues that could have contributed. I previously before dating this ex had a history of numerous painful experiences involving being involved with older men. At the time that my ex began expressing an interest in dating me, I was very opposed to dating anyone so much older than me unless it was something God truly had planned. I told my ex this and he said he would change my mind about not wanting to date an older man. But of course, now this experience has just added more pain to the hurt that I already had previously. Everyone warned me - literally everyone. But I didn't listen. Please pray for me about all this. Thank you.

We have heard your heart and we join with you in bringing all of this before the Lord in Jesus name, asking for His mercy, healing and truth to cover you and also your ex boyfriend.

We grieve with you over the pain of this relationship and the painful history before it involving older men. We see how an age gap of a few decades can create a deep imbalance of power and life experience, and when that gap is used to press forward after you clearly said you were opposed to dating someone so much older unless God truly had planned it, that is not loving or Christlike pursuit, it is manipulation. Scripture warns us that without counsel purposes are disappointed, but in the multitude of counselors they are established Proverbs 15:22 and that the wisdom of many advisors is a protection Proverbs 11:14. Everyone warning you was God in His mercy trying to protect you, and we encourage you to receive that now not with shame but with grace, learning to bring future decisions about courtship into the light of godly counsel, pastoral guidance and prayer before any commitment is made.

We also want to speak with love and truth about the nature of a dating relationship as the Bible teaches it. We believe in the sanctity of marriage as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, and we believe that what the world calls boyfriend and girlfriend should be understood as courtship with the goal being marriage to another Christian believer. We are to be unequally yoked together with unbelievers 2 Corinthians 6:14, and we are to flee sexual immorality 1 Corinthians 6:18. If there was sexual intimacy in this relationship outside of marriage, the Bible calls it fornication and it is sin against God and against your own body and soul. It also deepens the bonds and wounds when the relationship is already emotionally and psychologically abusive. If this was part of your story, we gently call you to confess it to the Lord, for if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9. There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ, and His blood covers and cleanses completely so you can walk forward in purity and wholeness as you await a godly marriage if that is His will for you.

We also weep with you over the abuse you describe. The Lord does not take lightly the misuse of influence or words to control, demean or manipulate. He is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit Psalm 34:18 and He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds Psalm 147:3. We pray for your deep healing from what was done to you, and from the added pain that this has brought upon earlier hurts. We ask God to renew your mind and restore your sense of worth as His daughter, fearfully and wonderfully made Psalm 139:14, and to transform you by the renewing of your mind Romans 12:2 so that the lies spoken over you and the patterns of being drawn to harmful relationships with older men are broken by His truth. We know that in all things God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose Romans 8:28, and He can redeem even this painful season for your future good and His glory. We encourage you to remain in consistent fellowship, in the Word, and under trusted pastoral and if needed biblical counseling care as healing is often a process and not an instant event.

We join you in praying for mercy for this man rather than punishment, and that is a Christlike heart. Vengeance belongs to the Lord Romans 12:19, and our call is to bless and to pray for those who have hurt us while also maintaining wise and firm boundaries. We pray for him to be brought to true faith in Christ, for there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12 and Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. His belief in very wrong, far out religious things, his regular drug use, and the possibility of being overmedicated and of undiagnosed mental, emotional and behavioral struggles do not excuse abuse, but they do reveal a man in great bondage and in need of deliverance. Our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places Ephesians 6:12, and drug use and false teaching can open doors to demonic influence. We pray that every chain of deception and addiction be broken in Jesus name and that he be set free by the truth. We also pray for him to heal if you did anything hurtful to him, that God would give you both the grace to forgive even as God also forgave you in Christ Ephesians 4:32, without requiring that you restore a relationship that was harmful. Forgiveness and reconciliation are not the same, and boundaries are biblical and wise.

We pray together now

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, and we lift this dear one to You. Lord have mercy upon her and heal the wounds in her heart and mind from this emotionally and psychologically abusive relationship and from all the painful experiences before it. Bind up what has been torn, comfort where there has been fear and confusion, and restore her in Your perfect love which casts out fear 1 John 4:18. Wash her clean by the blood of Jesus where there has been sin, and help her to walk in purity and holiness before You. Give her wisdom and discernment for the future, surround her with godly counsel, and guide her to a courtship that honors You if it is Your will for her to marry a believing man who will love her as Christ loved the church Ephesians 5:25. Lord we also lift this former boyfriend to You. Have mercy and do not deal with him according to his sins Psalm 103:10, but bring him to repentance and to saving faith in Jesus Christ. Deliver him from drugs, from false teachings, from every physical affliction and from any demonic influence that has held him captive. Heal him where he has been wounded and set him free to know You as Lord. Let Your will be done in both lives, and let healing come, for You have promised I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says Yahweh Jeremiah 30:17. We trust You to be the righteous judge and the tender healer. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to seek the Lord daily, to stay rooted in Scripture and in a faithful local church where you can be known and shepherded, and to guard your heart Proverbs 4:23 as God continues His healing work. Do not rush into another courtship, but allow the Lord to make you whole, to renew your understanding of biblical manhood and womanhood and marriage, and to prepare you, if He wills, for a godly spouse who is a mature believer walking in truth, sobriety and self control. You are deeply loved by God, and He is near to you now.

We are so glad you reached out and thank you for sharing something so painful and personal.

What you describe with the age gap and the way it was used to influence you makes sense that you would feel so worn down. When there is a large imbalance of power and control in a relationship, it can quietly whittle away at a person's sense of worth and confidence, and that kind of hurt often lingers long after the relationship has ended. It is understandable that this experience added to hurt you were already carrying, and that you feel regret for not listening when people warned you. Please try not to carry that alone as shame. Many people who have been hurt in this way struggle with confusion, self-doubt, and second-guessing themselves.

Healing from this kind of experience usually takes time and steady support, not just distance. One gentle next step that often helps is meeting one on one with a trusted pastor or Christian counselor who can listen to your story at your pace, help you sort through what happened, and walk with you toward safety and wholeness. If you have one or two safe people in your life, letting them know more of what you are carrying can also keep you from having to sort through it all by yourself. Alongside prayer, that kind of personal support can be important.

We are praying for you, and we join you in praying for him as well.

Father, we lift this dear sister to You and ask for Your mercy and healing over the wounds she carries. Give her wisdom, peace, and trustworthy people around her as she heals, and guard her heart in Your care. We also ask Your mercy on her ex, that You would draw him to faith in Christ and to truth and freedom, and bring healing where he has caused harm or been harmed. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your sorrow has been laid before the Lord and we have borne it with you in prayer, thanking you for speaking so plainly of what has wounded you.

There is a physician who healeth the broken in heart and bindeth up their wounds, and there is a balm that has not lost its power. As the leaves fall from the trees so sacred influence descends from our Lord Jesus to the sons of men, and the very leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations. The least thing about Christ is healing. There is not a word that ever fell from His dear lips but what bears healing in it for some one of the thousand ills that have befallen our humanity. Even a broken text from His mouth is better than the best of others, and it is appointed for this very purpose, that you might be made whole.

We grieve with you over the pain of that relationship and the way an age gap of decades was used to press upon you and to overbear your judgment. That such a disparity should be turned to advantage over one younger is a grievous misuse of strength, and it is right to name it as hurtful and abusive. We grieve also that this has added to earlier wounds you carried from involvement with older men, and that though everyone warned you, you did not listen. There is no reproach in our prayer for you, only a desire that the Lord who preserves His people from all evil and from the devices of the evil one would keep you henceforth in purity and uprightness, and teach you to hear His Word with heed and to walk in His way.

We do not ask God to bless what was outside His holy design, for salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, and marriage is the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and the intimate union of life and body belongs within that covenant alone. What we do ask is that He would wash and heal what has been broken, and that He would grant you forgiveness through the pardoning hand of Christ, for first forgiveness, then healing. When the soul is forgiven, healing comes as a draught of mercy to the lips.

And so we pray for you, that the Lord would heal you thoroughly, not with notions or with a mere show of religion, but with a real saving work of His own hand. May He take your heart as by the hand and lift you up, calm the agitation of your bosom, wipe the tear from your eye, and give you peace with God which passes all understanding through the remission of sins. May He heal the memory of manipulation and of words that changed your mind against your better conscience, and heal the deeper history of painful experiences that went before. May He give you wisdom to guard your heart, to seek counsel in the church, and to wait upon His good provision rather than to be drawn again into a like snare. May He teach you that to serve Him you must first be freed from the yoke of sin, and then you shall be made fit to serve Him in quiet strength.

We pray also as you asked, that God would have mercy upon that man and not deal with him according to punishment, but according to the riches of grace. The gospel is not a power to destroy but to save from the wrath to come. We pray that he would be brought to true faith in Christ alone and set free from false teachings and far out notions of religion, from the power of drugs which you discovered he regularly used, from the effects of physical infirmities and of medicines, and from any disorder of mind or behaviour that has bound him, and if there be any influence of the evil one, that Christ who is stronger would deliver him. We do not excuse sin by these explanations, for sin must be repented of, yet we ask that the Lord would touch him as He touched the leper, and make sin to depart the moment He touches him. And if you did anything hurtful to him, we pray that the Lord would show you and grant you repentance, and grant healing to him also where he has been wounded.

We ask that you both would know that the healing power was present when Christ was teaching, and that as you sit under faithful ministry and hear the Word of God, even from the poorest preacher who brings the water of life, you would eat it on the spot and carry it home in your heart, and so be kept from insidious errors and sins.

May the Lord keep you from saying I am sick because others are sick, but preserve your soul. May He answer your morning prayer, Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one, and may that evil one not touch you. May you know that all the eternal penal consequences are gone from the forgiven, and that for you there shall be no condemnation.

We commend you to that great conduit Head from whom abundant streams of healing flow down to men below. Look to Him, trust His atonement, rest in His Word, and you shall find that even His least touch brings wholeness. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We have heard your honest and painful request and we are bringing it before the Lord with care and seriousness.

We thank you for sharing so openly about the hurt you experienced, the age gap and the imbalance of power in that relationship, and the history of pain with older men that came before it. God sees all of this, and He is not distant from your suffering. We are praying that He will bring you true liberty and healing, freedom from bondage and from the weight of what was done to you, and that He will restore you in His gentle and steady way.

We pray for your healing in every part, emotionally, psychologically, and spiritually. Abuse, especially when trust and affection are involved, can leave deep wounds, confusion, and shame. We ask the Lord to be your physician, to apply His healing medicine over time, to quiet fear and self blame, and to teach you again to hear His voice with clarity and confidence. We pray that He will surround you with wise, faithful people in your church, and with sound counsel and care, so you are not walking through this alone. If you have not already, we encourage you to continue seeking support from a trusted pastor and from a qualified Christian counselor who can walk with you in safety and help you establish healthy boundaries.

We also hear that many people warned you and that you now carry regret for not listening. We pray that God will lift the burden of condemnation from you. He does not despise a humble and honest heart. We ask Him to give you wisdom for the future, to help you discern what is good and to rest in His will rather than in persuasion or pressure from others. His design for intimacy and for lifelong faithfulness is for your good and protection, that sexual union and shared life belong within the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, and we pray He will renew your hope in His good purposes and guard your heart as you heal.

As you asked, we are praying for mercy for this man, not as an excuse for what he did, but asking that God would lead him to repentance and to salvation through Jesus Christ alone. There is no other name by which we are saved, and no other hope for freedom from sin, false teaching, drug use, or any dark influence that may have a hold on him. We pray that God in His mercy would open his eyes, bring him to true faith, deliver him from error and from every chain, and bring him to a place of honesty about his actions. We pray also, as you asked, that if you caused him hurt, God would bring healing to him as well and help both of you to take responsibility where it is needed without minimizing harm that was done.

We do not ask God to bless or restore a relationship that was harmful and outside His design, but we do ask Him to bring what is needed for redemption and wholeness for each of you separately. We pray that He will free you both from anything that enslaves, that He will give you strength to cultivate what is good, to hear His word continually, and to walk in purity, fortitude, and peace.

Let us pray together. Father in heaven, we bring this dear one before You. You know her pain, her history, and every wound from this relationship and those before it. Have mercy and bring deep healing. Cover her with Your love, renew her mind, calm her heart, and set her free from fear and shame. Guard her and give her wisdom and safe community. We also bring this man before You. Have mercy on him according to Your grace in Christ. If he does not know You, bring him to repentance and to saving faith in Jesus alone. Deliver him from false teaching, from the power of drugs and from every influence that leads away from You, and bring him to truth. Work justice and mercy together as only You can, and lead each of them into the life and freedom that comes through Christ. In the name of Jesus we ask this, Amen.

Thank you for sharing so honestly about this painful season. Your heart to seek healing and also to pray for mercy and salvation for the man who hurt you reflects the grace of God at work in you.

I want to pray for you that you will know more deeply the grace and peace that come from God the Father and from our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins to deliver us from this present evil world. That is the foundation for all healing. Your relationship with God is the central axis on which your whole life turns. When that vertical relationship is out of order, every other relationship becomes out of order as well. When it is made right through Jesus, He brings order and health to the rest of life. Sin always separates us from God, and only the blood of Christ makes atonement and opens the way back to Him. Through His death and resurrection Jesus not only forgives sin but also gives power over sin and power to heal what sin has broken.

God does not want you to live with Him on the basis of a legal or ritual relationship, trying to keep rules to earn His favor or to punish yourself because you did not listen to warnings. He wants a loving, close relationship with you as His child. Jesus taught us to pray, Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, inviting us into that intimate relationship of a child with a father. When you live in that love, you do not avoid what is harmful because you are forced to, but because you no longer want what displeases your Father. That loving relationship is far better than living under bondage, and Christ has set you free to stand fast in that liberty and not be entangled again.

What you describe about an older man pursuing you when you had clearly said you did not want to date someone so much older, and then using that age difference in ways that felt controlling and abusive, is a serious harm. The pattern you mention of previous painful experiences with older men makes this wound even deeper. It is understandable that you feel added pain and regret, especially when those who cared about you warned you. Please do not remain under condemnation for not listening. Bring that regret to the Father and receive His forgiveness and His grace. He can restore what has been broken and teach you to walk in wisdom going forward.

God's design for the most important human relationship, marriage, is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, and He intends sexual intimacy and living together to belong only within that covenant. Any relationship outside of that design cannot bring the fellowship and communion God intended, and often brings confusion and hurt. Healing will include letting God renew your understanding of His good design and learning to seek His will for any future relationship, trusting Him rather than being drawn again into a harmful pattern.

For the man you described, you are right to pray for mercy rather than punishment, and for his salvation through Jesus Christ alone. You mentioned possible factors such as emotional or behavioral struggles, physical health problems and medication, regular drug use, and belief in false religious ideas. Those things may help explain influences in his life, but they do not excuse sin. Only Jesus can forgive sin and deliver a person from darkness, including any demonic influence that comes through false teaching. It is right to pray that God would bring him to true faith, set him free from deception, and bring him to repentance, while also leaving justice in God's hands.

I am praying for you in this way:

Father, I thank You for this dear one who has been hurt. I ask that You would show her how much You love her and draw her into a close, living relationship with You as her Father. Wash her in the blood of Jesus, forgive her sins, and heal the wounds left by this emotionally and psychologically abusive relationship and by earlier painful experiences. Deliver her from this present evil world and from any bondage of guilt or shame, and help her to stand fast in the liberty Christ has given. Where there has been separation and brokenness, bring Your communion and peace. Renew her mind, heal her emotions, and make her whole. Guard her heart for the future, and help her to desire only what pleases You, within Your design for marriage and purity. And Father, have mercy on this man. Do not deal with him according to his sins, but bring him to the knowledge of Jesus Christ, to repentance and faith, and set him free from false teaching, from the power of drugs and any other bondage, and from the influence of the enemy. If she has caused him hurt, bring healing to him as well. Provide for both of them godly counsel and support as they heal. In Jesus' name, Amen.

May the Lord continue to be near to you, to comfort you and to establish you in His love. Keep looking to Him daily, and He will be faithful to complete the healing He has begun.

We thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf and we are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer. We have continued to lift you up before the Lord and we remember the painful details you shared about this emotionally and psychologically abusive relationship and the large age gap of a few decades and how it may have been used to harm you.

We have been praying for your deep healing from what happened in that relationship and also for healing from the earlier history of painful experiences with older men that you described. We ask the Lord who is close to the brokenhearted as Psalm 34:18 reminds us and who heals the broken in heart as Psalm 147:3 promises to bring you comfort and restoration and to redeem the pain that was added to what you had already carried. We pray for peace where there has been confusion and warnings you now wish you had heeded and for wisdom and discernment for the future as you seek the Lord for His will.

We also continue to pray as you requested for your ex boyfriend that God would have mercy on him and not punish him but would draw him to salvation through faith in Christ and set him free from false teachings and any demonic influence. We pray for his deliverance from regular drug use and for healing if there are undiagnosed mental emotional or behavioral disorders or physical health problems or effects from being overly medicated that contributed to his actions. We also pray for him to be healed if you did anything hurtful to him and for the Lord to show you both grace and forgiveness where needed. We pray that the Lord would bring him out of darkness into light as Acts 26:18 speaks of and that he would come to know the truth that is in Jesus.

If your request has been answered and you have experienced more healing and peace please post a praise report and let us all know so we can rejoice with you. If your request does not yet seem to have been answered please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer. May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son Jesus Christ. We continue to pray for your complete healing and restoration in Jesus Name.
