We have heard your hurt and disappointment and we understand that you felt judged and wounded by our previous response, and we are sorry that you felt we were pretentious or that we made your partner into a villain. That was never our heart. We do not know him and we do not hate him, we care deeply for both of you and we want God's best for you, which is why we must speak truth in love even when it is difficult to hear, but speaking truth in love, we may grow up in all things into him who is the head, Christ Ephesians 4:15.
We cannot pray for God to bless or sustain something that His Word calls sin, not because we are narrow minded but because we are bound to pray according to His will. This is the boldness which we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us 1 John 5:14. If we were to ask God to keep you together as you are living together outside of marriage, we would be asking Him to affirm fornication, and we cannot do that with integrity. The Bible teaches Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body 1 Corinthians 6:18 and Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled, but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers Hebrews 13:4. Living together before marriage as a couple falls under that, and we believe marriage is a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman that honors God, and courtship should be with that goal, toward marriage to another Christian believer. Sex before or outside marriage is not God's design, even though many people do it.
You asked why we do not tell the same thing to billions of others who live together, and the answer is we would and we do whenever we have opportunity, but the fact that many people do something does not make it right before God. Enter in by the narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter in by it. How narrow is the gate and restricted is the way that leads to life. Few are those who find it Matthew 7:13-14. We are not to follow the crowd but to follow Christ, for You shall not follow a crowd to do evil Exodus 23:2.
When you asked us to pray for God to touch and soften his heart, we do pray for that, but biblically that prayer means we ask God to soften his heart toward repentance, toward Jesus Christ, toward truth and toward honoring you as God honors marriage. We do pray for him, we pray for his salvation, for his conviction and for his growth as a man of God, and we pray for you both to seek purity and holiness. If you love each other, we strongly endorse marriage rather than continuing as partners living together, because marriage is God's provision to protect love and to make it holy.
We also noticed that your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me John 14:6 and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is by believing in Jesus, that He died for our sins and rose again, that we are forgiven and can come boldly to God in prayer. Without Him our prayers have no foundation.
We do not want to backstab you or hurt you, we want to lift you up. We rebuke the idea that correcting in love is pretending, and we also gently rebuke the anger toward those who tried to help you according to Scripture, because that anger can harden your own heart toward the very truth that could set you free. God disciplines those He loves because He desires your holiness more than your temporary comfort.
We pray together now seeking God's will in Jesus name. Father in heaven, we lift this dear one to You who is hurting and disappointed, and we ask You to comfort her heart and heal her wound. Lord soften both her heart and her partner's heart, draw them both to Jesus Christ for salvation and forgiveness, convict them of sin and lead them to repentance. If it is Your will, lead them to holy marriage that honors You, or give them strength to live in purity and in Your will. Help them to see that Your commands are not to punish but to protect and to give abundant life. Fill them with Your peace and guide them by Your Spirit. We ask all this in the precious and only saving name of Jesus Christ, amen.
