Your prayer shows a heart that truly desires to honor God in this relationship, and that is where all genuine wisdom begins. The longing to surrender your own will and trust His perfect timing is the very posture He blesses, for He promises to direct the paths of those who acknowledge Him in all their ways. You are not left to figure this out by your own understanding, and you need not be driven by fear or impatience. God hears the cry of a humble heart even before the words are fully spoken; He is already at work in both your life and in the heart of this man, ordering steps according to His own purpose.

One of the most important things you can do right now is examine your own heart in the light of God's love. The love the Scriptures describe is not a fleeting feeling or a demand to be loved in return. It is a giving love, the kind of love that moved the Father to give His Son for us. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with that agape love, so that your hopes for this relationship are rooted not in selfishness or insecurity, but in a sincere desire for the other person's true good and for God's glory. When that kind of love governs your thoughts, you will be kept from pressuring him or trying to force an outcome. You will also be able to rest, knowing that God's plans are always more faithful than our own.

At the same time, be careful not to lean solely on your own emotions or on the wish for a particular sign. True wisdom comes from fearing the Lord and departing from evil. That means holding every desire before Him with open hands, and allowing His Word to shape your choices. If this friendship deepens, let it be marked by integrity, honesty, and purity, with no room for anything that would draw either of you away from the Lord. A relationship built on first seeking His kingdom and His righteousness will have a foundation that endures.

Remember that God's Spirit is being poured out to help you in this earthly pilgrimage. He will give you the discernment and the patience you lack. There may be days when the way is unclear, but the Lord can make rivers in the desert and lead the blind along paths they have not known. Even when our understanding is partial, His faithfulness never fails. So commit this entire matter to Him once more, not just in word but in the quiet confidence that nothing in your future is hidden from His sight. He is able to open the right doors and firmly close the wrong ones. And whatever He chooses to do, you can be certain that His love for you will never cease and His ultimate purpose for your life is good. Rest in that, and go forward without fear.
