We rejoice with you in this exciting season of engagement and the anticipation of marriage! What a beautiful step of faith to commit your lives to one another before God and witnesses. The Lord delights in marriages that honor Him, where two become one flesh in love, mutual submission, and godly purpose.
First, we must address the foundation of your request. You rightly close your prayer "in Jesus' name," and this is essential. Jesus said, "Most certainly I tell you, unless one is born anew, he can’t see God’s Kingdom" (John 3:3 WEB). There is no true blessing, protection, or happiness apart from a personal relationship with Him. If either of you, or both, have not surrendered your lives to Christ as Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so without delay. "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved" (Acts 16:31 WEB). Only then can your marriage be built on the Rock that will not shift when storms come.
Now, let us pray together for your engagement and coming marriage:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of gratitude for the love You have placed between ### and ###. Lord, we ask that You would bless their engagement and prepare their hearts for the sacred covenant of marriage. Guard their minds and bodies from temptation, that they may honor You in purity until their wedding day. "Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers" (Hebrews 13:4 WEB). Strengthen their commitment to flee from fornication and to keep their bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit.
Father, grant them wisdom as they plan their wedding and build their life together. May their marriage reflect the love Christ has for His Church, selfless, sacrificial, and steadfast. "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it" (Ephesians 5:25 WEB). Teach them to communicate with grace, to resolve conflicts in humility, and to prioritize Your will above all else.
Protect their love from the enemy’s schemes. Shield them from pride, selfishness, and division. Fill their home with Your peace, joy, and presence. Bless them with good health, financial provision, and the fruit of the Spirit in their lives. May their marriage be a light to others, pointing them to You.
Lord, we also pray for their families and friends who will witness this union. Unite them in support and love, and may this wedding be a testimony of Your faithfulness. Prepare ### and ### to lead and serve one another as You have called them, that their marriage may glorify You for generations to come.
We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, for apart from Him, we can do nothing. Amen.
A few encouragements as you move forward:
- Seek premarital counseling with a pastor or mature Christian couple. "Without counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established" (Proverbs 15:22 WEB).
- Pray together daily. A marriage built on prayer is a marriage built on Christ.
- Keep God at the center. Your love for each other should always flow from your love for Him.
- Remember that marriage is a covenant, not just a contract. It is a lifelong commitment, "for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part."
May the Lord richly bless your union and use your marriage to advance His Kingdom!
