I have to come out of retirement for financial reasons. I am desperately looking for a nursing job. I am running into issues due to being retired for over 3 years. I need prayer to help me find a nursing job fitting to my work history and background. I’m so overwhelmed and feel sick. Amen

We hear your cry for help and lift you up before the Lord with heavy hearts. The weight of financial strain and the frustration of seeking employment after a long break can indeed feel crushing, but we stand with you in faith, believing that God has not forgotten you. The book of Jeremiah reminds us, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you," says Yahweh, "thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future" (Jeremiah 29:11 WEB). Even in this season of uncertainty, the Lord is working on your behalf.

We rebuke the spirit of discouragement and overwhelm that has taken hold of your heart. The enemy would love for you to believe that your skills are outdated or that your season of usefulness has passed, but we declare that God is the restorer of all things. He equipped you with the gifts and experience of a nurse, and He will open doors that no man can shut. "I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten" (Joel 2:25 WEB). Your hands have brought healing to many, and the Lord will use them again.

We also want to gently encourage you to bring your anxiety before God in prayer. Philippians 4:6-7 (WEB) tells us, "In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus." You mentioned feeling sick with worry, let us pray that the Lord would replace that sickness with His perfect peace as you surrender this burden to Him.

Father God, we come before You on behalf of our sister in Christ who is seeking employment. Lord, You know the depths of her financial need, and You are the Provider who opens doors that no one can close. We ask that You would make a way where there seems to be no way. Give her favor with hiring managers, restore her confidence in her abilities, and lead her to the right opportunity that fits her experience and honors You. Remove every obstacle that has stood in her way, whether it be doubt, discouragement, or the limitations of man. We declare that her latter days will be greater than her former, and that You will use this season to show Yourself strong on her behalf. Strengthen her when she feels weak, and remind her that You are her ultimate source. We pray for supernatural provision, wisdom in her job search, and a renewed sense of purpose as she waits on You. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray, Amen.

In the meantime, we encourage you to seek the Lord for wisdom in where to apply. Proverbs 3:5-6 (WEB) says, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." Perhaps God is leading you to a different setting than you’ve worked in before, home health, telehealth, or even a role in nursing education. Be open to His leading, and don’t hesitate to reach out to former colleagues or supervisors who may know of opportunities. Your experience is valuable, and the right employer will see that.

Lastly, we want to remind you that your worth is not defined by your employment status. You are deeply loved by God, and He sees your faithfulness in this season of seeking. Keep your eyes fixed on Him, and trust that He will sustain you until the right door opens. "Those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint" (Isaiah 40:31 WEB). You are not forgotten.

We can only imagine how overwhelming this feels, coming out of retirement, facing financial strain, and hitting roadblocks because of a gap in your work history. Please know you’re not alone in this; we’re with you in prayer.

Right now, the weight of it all is making you feel sick, and that’s completely understandable. While we lift this up, we’d also gently encourage you to see a doctor if the physical distress lingers, just to be wise and care for your body.

In the meantime, since you mentioned the gap is causing issues, one step might be to see if a refresher course or short-term volunteer role could help you reconnect with the field and update your skills while you search. Also, think about reaching out to former nursing friends or supervisors, they might know of per diem shifts or places friendly to returning nurses. Even one connection could start to open doors.

But perhaps the most immediate help you can give yourself is to name the one biggest financial pressure right now, maybe a specific bill or upcoming expense, and see if there’s a way to ease that pressure for a month or two while you look. A local church, community program, or just a frank talk with a creditor might buy you some breathing room.

Lord, we ask you to open a door for our sister as she steps back into nursing. Calm her heart, steady her body, and give her wise, practical ideas for how to present her experience and overcome this gap. Provide for her financially even now, and help her to rest in your care when the worry feels too heavy. In Jesus’ name, amen.

God bless me to know You in truth, fall in love with You with all my heart, mind, soul, body, and strength and never fall out of love with You. God, bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. Bless me with the love, desire, strength, and the spirit of obedience to always delight myself in You, seek first Your kingdom, Your righteousness, and to always respect and obey You. Bless me to know You, so that I can trust You with all my heart, acknowledge You in all my ways, and lean not to my own understanding. Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.

God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. Let the mind that is in Christ Jesus be in me. Bless me to have and operate with a God-conscious-solution-focused-heart-mind-spirit-and-attitude. Bless me to have a God Kingdom Culture Mentality. The overwhelming flood of distress that now sweeps over you is known to our merciful God. Job, that pattern of patience, felt the terror of sudden ruin and bodily sickness until he cried out in the bitterness of his soul, yet in all this he sinned not, nor charged God foolishly. That same upholding grace is yours this very hour. The Lord who sustained Job when every earthly prop was removed will not let you sink.

You feel sick at heart, as one whose strength is dried up like a potsherd. Job too sat among the ashes, loathsome in his own sight, and his friends only added to his sorrow with their harsh words. But the end of the Lord is full of tenderness; He turned again the captivity of Job when he prayed for those who had wronged him. Take your case to the throne of grace, and while you are praying for your own need, stretch out your hand in intercession for others who seek employment, for the sick you once tended, for the nursing profession itself. It may be that as you pray, the door will open and the cloud will lift.

The gap in your years of retirement is no hindrance to the Almighty. He who restored to Job twice as much as he had before can restore you to useful service and provide for your financial necessity in ways you have not imagined. Bow before His sovereign will, confessing that whatever He ordains is right, and wait upon Him with childlike confidence. Do not let unbelief drive you to despair, but remember that He who brought Job up from the pit can make your latter end to be peace. Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He will never suffer the righteous to be moved.

You feel overwhelmed and sick at heart, and I do not wonder at it. For when poverty knocks at the door and the way of employment seems blocked after years of retirement, fear and distress easily take hold of the soul. But tell me, have you summoned the true Physician to your aid? You rightly seek a nursing job, and you look to human means, for this is needful. Yet Christ stands ready as the physician of both body and soul, and He does not vie with your own labors but crowns them with His blessing. Cry out to Him without ceasing; let your prayers be more earnest than your resume. “My substance is with Thee,” said David, not with his storehouses or his health. If you make God your substance, no earthly fear can shake you.

Consider that blessed man Job. What nursing job, what financial strait, can compare to his afflictions? He lost all his children at once, his body bred worms as he sat on a dunghill scraping his sores, and his own wife taunted him to curse God and die. Yet he did not sin with his lips. Your trial is heavy, I grant; it makes you feel sick. But if he endured such things without the comfort of a home or a friend’s kind hand, how much more can you, with the Church to uphold you, bear this temporary lack? Do not let your sorrow turn to the world’s despair, which brings death, but let it be the godly sorrow that drives you closer to the Lord and works patience.

This very trouble may be God’s wisdom, allowing you to taste hardship so that you might learn to cling to Him who tasted death for you. Christ did not need to die, yet He submitted to free you from the terror of every loss, even the loss of life itself. If He gave His own blood for your soul, will He not open a door for your livelihood? Go to Him with confidence. Seek out a holy person or a faithful elder who can pray with you; do not bear this burden alone. I will join my prayers to yours that a nursing post fitting your background may be found, but far more I pray that your heart may find its true rest in the embrace of Christ, whose providence never fails those who trust in Him.

You have put your finger on it: you feel overwhelmed, and the stress is making you sick. That weight is real, and the Lord sees it. When your heart is overwhelmed, He is the Rock that is higher than you are, a place to stand when deep waters seem about to swallow you up. Financial reverses and closed doors can make the future look impossible, but in that distress, crying out to Him is exactly the right thing to do. His ear is open; He hears you.

I am praying that He will open a nursing job perfectly suited to the work history and gifts He has given you. Those years of retirement may look like a gap to employers, but the Lord is not limited by that. He can make a way where there seems to be none, and He often does it so that we know it was His hand, not our own maneuvering.

Please don’t let the burden of illness or the fear of rejection convince you that this is somehow your fault. Trouble is not always about missing faith or hidden sin. Even those who labored with Paul became sick, and the Lord had mercy. Your body is reacting to a heavy load, so let yourself be cared for. If you are part of a believing fellowship, let the leaders pray over you and anoint you with oil in the name of the Lord. Let them stand in the gap with you. You don’t have to carry this alone.

Keep bringing your needs before Him like a weaned child on its mother’s lap, quietly trusting, not wrestling. He knows your desperation and your skills. I will ask Him to give you not only a job but also His peace, so that even now, in the waiting, you can rest in the knowledge that He has not left you.
