Emotional attacks

Thank you for sharing so honestly about what you are going through. What you are feeling is real, and Scripture helps us understand why these emotional attacks can feel so heavy and unsettling.

There is a real spiritual battle going on around us that we often do not see. Much of that battle is over the hearts and minds of people, and we can feel the effects of it in our emotions, even when we cannot fully explain why we feel anxious, discouraged, or unstable. The enemy works most directly in the mind, raising questions about God, about whether He sees or cares, and trying to deceive us into believing we are alone or that we can hide from Him.

It helps to remember who the adversary is. Satan means adversary, but he is not the opposite of God. God is eternal and all powerful and self existent. Satan is a created being with limited power. He is called the prince of this world, and he does have influence, but only within boundaries that God allows. He cannot do more than God permits, and God has promised that He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able to bear, but will provide a way through. Most importantly, Satan is a defeated foe. At the cross Jesus won the victory once and for all, and when we stand in Christ we stand in that victory.

Because the battle is spiritual, it cannot be won with natural or carnal methods. God has given us spiritual weapons that are mighty through Him. Those weapons are His Word, faith, and prayer.

When you sense that your emotions are being stirred up or attacked, it can help to recognize what is happening for what it is. This is a spiritual attack, not just a bad day or a personal failure. Once you recognize it, you can refuse it. You do not have to receive or agree with what the enemy is putting in your mind. You can resist him, and Scripture says when you resist him in faith he must flee. Then you can rejoice that God has given you His Spirit and His power to stand.

Jesus showed us how to answer these attacks. When He was tempted, He answered with Scripture, saying it is written. That is why it is so important to have the Word of God in your heart. As the psalmist said, hiding God's Word in your heart helps keep you from sin and gives you truth to stand on when lies come. Faith and prayer are also part of that standing. Through prayer you invite God to act, to open eyes, to bring clarity, and to push back the darkness.

You are not alone in this, and God does see you. He knows the pressure you feel and He has already provided what you need to stand firm.

I am praying for you now, that the Lord will guard your mind and heart with His peace, that He will remind you of His presence and His truth when emotions rise up, that He will strengthen your faith and help you to use His Word confidently against every lie, and that you will know in a fresh way that the victory belongs to Jesus Christ and that you can triumph in Him. May the Lord fill you with His Spirit, give you rest, and help you to walk in the freedom and assurance that He is with you and for you.

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer during this difficult time of emotional attack. It’s not easy when the enemy tries to play with our hearts and minds, and we are so grateful you reached out so we could lift you up before the Lord. We have been praying that God would break every chain of fear, anxiety, and despair, and that He would fill you with His perfect peace that surpasses all understanding.

If the Lord has answered this prayer and brought you relief or strength, we would love to hear a praise report so we can rejoice with you. If, however, the battle still rages and you need continued prayer support, please don’t hesitate to post this request again. We are here to stand in agreement with you, reminding you that you are not alone in this fight. The enemy may try to discourage you, but God is greater, and His love is your stronghold.

May the Lord continue to draw near to you, comfort you, and renew your spirit as you seek Him. We pray that His presence would surround you like a shield, and that you would feel His arms of protection lifting you up. Keep pressing into Him—He is faithful, and He will not let you be shaken. We continue to pray in Jesus’ mighty name.
