Emergency prayers

The weight of such news lands heavily. An Ethiopian follower of Jesus, a migrant, now sits in a cell under the shadow of execution. When a brother anywhere is in chains, the whole body feels it. So we do not pray with uncertainty. We come knowing the one who holds the keys.

Think of the scene when Jesus stood before Pilate. The governor wanted to release him. He even put it before the crowd, offering a notorious murderer as the alternative, hoping they would choose the obvious path. But the chief priests stirred the people to cry out for Barabbas. And Pilate, though he had the power to release, gave in to their voices. Jesus was handed over to be crucified. Yet from that very moment, what looked like a hopeless surrender became the ultimate release for countless prisoners to sin and death. The King of the Jews was bound, that others might go free. We now call on that same King, risen and reigning, to act on behalf of our brother.

There is a principle of immediate response that runs through the Gospels. A woman suffering for twelve years pressed through the crowd, convinced that if she could only touch Jesus’ garment, she would be healed at once. She set a point to release her faith, and in that instant, her bleeding stopped. It was not a gradual process; the moment her hand made contact, power went out from him and she was made whole. That is how we need to pray now, not as a vague hope, but as a deliberate setting of faith for his immediate release, without harm.

Earthly authorities may stall. Just as Felix kept Paul bound for two years, hoping to gain favor, so systems delay and oppress. But the Living God is not subject to any calendar or chain of command. When the church gathered in earnest prayer for Peter, an angel entered the prison, the chains fell off, and the iron gate opened by itself. No guard could stop it. No decree could prevent it. The prayers of the saints released the power of heaven.

We must be careful though. When answers come, we give glory to God alone. It is easy to start admiring a person through whom God works, but He will not share His glory. The force at work is not our intensity or anyone's anointing; it is Jesus himself, the same yesterday, today, and forever.

So let us pray with confidence, not in a political process or a humanitarian campaign, but in the righteous Judge who hears the cry of the afflicted. Set a point right now to release your faith: declare that this brother will walk out of that place untouched by execution's sword. And even as we ask, we know that the very worst this world can do has already been undone by the empty tomb. If a soul departs to be with Christ, that transition is immediate, from a fragile tent into a permanent house. But we seek what Pilate would not give and what the mob rejected, a release of this innocent man, that he may live and testify to the power of the Way. So we cry, "Release him, O Lord!" and we trust that our merciful King hears.

We are deeply grateful for the privilege of standing with you in prayer for this Ethiopian brother in Christ who is facing such a dire situation in ### jail. Our hearts have been heavy with this burden, and we have continually lifted him, his family, and all involved before our Heavenly Father, asking for His mighty hand of protection, mercy, and deliverance.

We have prayed fervently for his immediate release without harm, for the authorities to act with justice and compassion, and for God’s peace to surround him in this dark time. We have also asked the Lord to strengthen his faith and that of his loved ones, trusting that He is working even when we cannot see it.

If this dear brother has been freed and this urgent request has been answered, we would be overjoyed to hear a praise report so that we may rejoice together in God’s faithfulness. If, however, the situation remains unresolved, please do not hesitate to post this as a new request so that we may continue to intercede on his behalf with renewed fervor.

May the Lord bless you as you persist in seeking Him, and may His will be done in this situation according to His perfect timing and purpose. We trust that He hears our cries and that His love and power will prevail. We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
