I was in a severely toxic job and left abruptly with written notice and my situation is worse off now. People can criticize all they want they’re not in my shoes and have no idea what I went through so it’s easy to say well you shouldn’t have done it but that makes no sense to me. Anyway I feel like I am going in circles and the enemy has won. No matter how much I pray situations get worse and people come in and take advantage of me so I just assume that’s life. I feel abandoned by God it’s just honest and I can’t fully trust him. It’s a hard thing to admit but I must be truthful. This is a cruel hard life.

We hear your honest heart in this and we thank you for sharing it so truthfully with us. We do not criticize you for leaving a severely toxic job, you did give written notice and you did what you felt you had to do to protect yourself, and we understand that those who were not in your shoes cannot fully understand what you endured. We are not here to say you should not have done it, we are here to stand with you now in the harder place you find yourself, going in circles, feeling taken advantage of, and feeling abandoned by God.

We want to gently but firmly rebuke some of the thoughts that have taken hold while you are in this deep discouragement. The feeling that the enemy has won is a lie, and the feeling that God has abandoned you, though very real to you, is not true. Scripture tells us plainly what is true even when our feelings say otherwise. Deuteronomy 31:6 says Be strong and of good courage. Do not be afraid nor be scared of them; for Yahweh your God himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you. And Isaiah 41:10 says Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Psalm 34:18 also reminds us Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Your honesty about not being able to fully trust Him is something God can handle, many in the Psalms poured out the same struggle, but we encourage you not to settle there.

This life is indeed hard and cruel at times because we live in a fallen world, yet God has not left you to face it alone and the enemy has not won. Romans 8:28 says We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. That does not mean all things are good, but that God can work even this painful season of job loss, financial pressure, and being mistreated by others for your good as you keep turning to Him. 1 Peter 5:7 says casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. And 1 Peter 5:8-9 warns us to Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Withstand him steadfast in your faith. The way we withstand him is not by our own strength but by submitting ourselves to God, resisting the lies that we are abandoned and forgotten, and drawing near to Him again.

We also notice your prayer did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly share why that matters so much to us. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only through Him that we are saved and heard. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we urge you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and to call upon His name not only for provision and peace now but for eternal life. It is in His name that we can come boldly before God even when we feel far from Him.

We understand why you feel you cannot trust God when prayers seem unanswered and situations get worse and people take advantage of you. That pattern can make anyone assume that is just life. But God calls us to a different hope and also to walk in wisdom. Proverbs 4:23 says Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life. Part of trusting God is asking Him for wisdom to set healthy boundaries, to seek godly counsel about work and finances, and to not isolate ourselves when we are hurting. Colossians 3:23 says Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men. We pray God will open a door for work that is not toxic, where you can provide and use your gifts for His glory, and that He will guard you from those who would take advantage of your kindness.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, lifting up this dear one who feels like they are going in circles, overwhelmed, mistreated, and abandoned. Lord, You see the pain of that toxic job and You know what was endured, and You see the consequences now and the financial and emotional weight being carried. We ask You to forgive any distrust and to help them to trust You again with their whole heart. Reveal Yourself as near, as faithful, as the One who will never leave nor forsake them. Break the lie that the enemy has won, for Christ has already won the victory on the cross, and help them to resist the enemy steadfast in faith. Give them Your peace that passes understanding, guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus, and show them the next practical steps for provision, for work, for wisdom with people and boundaries. Provide for every need according to Your riches in glory, open doors no man can shut, and surround them with godly community who will not criticize but will support and speak truth in love. Heal the brokenheartedness and renew hope, for Your loving kindnesses never fail and Your compassions are new every morning. Lamentations 3:22-23. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to keep pouring out your honest heart to God as you have done with us, to stay in His Word daily even when it feels dry, to meet with faithful believers who can walk with you, and to keep praying in the name of Jesus. Do not give up. Psalm 61:2 says When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I. That rock is Christ, and He is still holding you even when you cannot feel Him holding you. We are continuing to pray that you will see His faithfulness break through this hard season.

When work is lost, so much more than a paycheck is shaken, including identity and daily stability. It can help to separate what is a real pressing loss right now from the feared losses about what might happen next. You do not have to solve it all at once.

One steady next step we have found helpful is to name the single most pressing practical pressure point for the next few weeks, whether it is rent, bills, or next work, and bring it to one wise, safe person who can help you think through options. That could be a pastor, a trusted mentor, or someone who can offer basic budgeting and job-search guidance through a church or community agency. You do not have to carry the planning alone, alongside continuing to bring your honest prayers to God just as they are.

Father, we lift our brother to You in Jesus' name. You see the exhaustion and the hurt of feeling abandoned. Draw near to him, remind him he is not forgotten, give him wisdom for each next decision and people around him who will act with kindness and fairness. Restore his strength day by day and lead him toward steadier ground. Amen.

Your honest confession is itself heard in heaven, for God desires truth in the inward parts and will not parley with dishonest pretence. To say plainly that you feel abandoned and cannot fully trust Him is not to drive Him away, but to come before Him as you are, as Job did when in the bitterness of his soul he thought and almost said that God had despised him.

We cannot wonder that such words rise when the burden is heavy. You left a severely toxic place with written notice, and now find your situation worse, going in circles, with others taking advantage and ready to criticize who have not stood in your shoes. Remember, dear soul, that one of the great lessons of the Book of Job is that we may never judge a man's character by his condition. The inspired testimony of Job was that he was perfect and upright and one that feared God, yet he lost all and sat in pain while his friends spoke hard speeches. He was allowed to show that he suffered, for he arose and tore his mantle and shaved his head and fell down upon the ground and worshipped, and in all this he sinned not. Your sorrow is not hidden from God, and your leaving that place does not place you outside His care.

You write that the enemy has won and that prayer seems to make things worse. The Scripture teaches otherwise. Satan is the enemy and the avenger who seeks to revenge himself on God, but he is a baffled enemy. When he could not extract a rebellious word from patient Job, his malice had spent itself without result. No gold is ever injured in the fire. So the Lord says of His own, He knows the way that I take, when He has tried me I shall come forth as gold. Your trial, though it feels like abandonment and the loss of His presence, is not proof that you are despised. Behold, God is mighty and despiseth not any, He is mighty in strength and wisdom. He is great minded enough to receive the chief of sinners, and if He did not receive them He would not be enriched by His refusal, and if He does receive them He will not be impoverished by what He bestows. Believe firmly in the generosity of God.

Are the consolations of God too small for you. If we are not glad even amid our trials there is a reason for it, and often that reason is unbelief and living by feeling rather than by principle. The grounds of comfort are always the same. If a promise is true this morning it will be true this afternoon. You feel that life is cruel and hard, and indeed without the Lord there is nothing good, nothing strong, nothing effectual. But when God whispers in the ear, Thou art Mine, the soul can go on to say, I thank God through Jesus Christ my Lord, thanks be unto God which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

How then shall you find Him again when you long to find Him and know not where He is. Take the Book and search it through to learn how God is to be found, and you will find Him. Hear the Word spoken, for there are minds that are more affected by speech than by what they read. And above all, look to Jesus on the Cross, as Israel bitten by serpents looked to the brazen serpent, and by that look live. Bring Jesus to remembrance, for He is man's complete answer to God. He is not dead, He is risen, and to come to Christ is to find God.

Therefore do not hide the words of God from yourself by accepting only half the truth, nor cloud them with error, but keep His words before you and speak often to others of His goodness, and above all speak to Him in prayer. He is mighty to save and He despiseth not the cry of a broken heart.

May the Lord show you that He has not abandoned you, that the enemy has not won, and that He who tried Job and brought him forth as precious gold will do the same for you. May He give you daily bread, honest work, protection from those who would take advantage, and a quiet trust that grows by grace, and may you hear Him say, Thou art Mine, and answer with thanksgiving through Jesus Christ our Lord. Your honesty in saying you feel abandoned by God and unable to fully trust Him is heard, and God is not turned away by truth spoken out of deep pain. To feel that you are going in circles, that situations only get worse after you prayed, and that people take advantage of you, is a heavy burden to carry, and it is understandable that life feels cruel and hard right now.

The criticism of others who were not in your shoes does not measure what you endured. Leaving a toxic place with written notice was an attempt to protect yourself, and now that things feel worse, it is natural to wonder if the enemy has won. Scripture gives a different picture. To follow Christ is not only to confess Him but to walk a path that includes many toils and dangers. He could, as the Son of God, keep us from every trial, yet He does not, not because He has abandoned us, but so that we may also contribute something through endurance and be more approved. The trial itself becomes part of how He forms us.

That is why patience is so central. Patience works probation, and probation works hope. Those who have fallen into many dangers and have been recovered through hope in God learn to hold to that hope more firmly. What you are experiencing now, being struck again and again, can feel like defeat, but with God the pattern is reversed. We do not overcome by doing wrong to others, but by suffering wrong faithfully. Like rocks in the sea that break the waves precisely because they are struck and remain firm, so the saints have won their crowning victories not by conflict but by endurance. God gives strength to conquer in this way, by remaining steadfast when we are wronged and taken advantage of, and that endurance itself is a sign that the victory is His.

You said you assume this is just life. God is a righteous Judge, strong and longsuffering, and He does not visit with wrath every day. He allows time and even permits hard seasons to display His longsuffering and to give space for repentance, growth, and salvation. The fact that He does not immediately fix every circumstance is not evidence that He has left you. He is still shepherding His sheep, nurturing and feeding them, keeping them within His power and lordship so that none can finally thrust them out. Even when you feel thrust out by people and circumstances, you remain within His care.

It is hard to trust when trust has been broken by people and by disappointment. Trust grows again not by pretending the pain is not there, but by bringing it to God continually. One practice the Scriptures commend is to begin our prayers with thanksgiving, even before we make requests known. This does not mean thanking Him for the harm done to you, but thanking Him that He is still God, that His grace has saved us not because of our works but through faith in Jesus Christ, that His loving kindness remains, and that the unseen and eternal things He has promised are more lasting than the present affliction. Thanksgiving steadies the heart to keep praying when prayer feels unanswered.

God has not abandoned you, even when you feel abandoned. He sees the toxic job you left, the worsening situation after, the people who have used you, and the weariness of going in circles. He is not asking you to become idle or to boast in your own strength, but to keep coming to Him, to let patience do its work, and to let hope be renewed.

I pray for you now that the Lord Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have salvation and access to God, will give you His nearness in this hard season, that He will guard your heart from despair, provide for your daily needs, bring faithful people around you who do not exploit you, and give you strength to endure one day at a time. May He turn your honest prayer, even the words I cannot fully trust You, into a deeper confidence that He is righteous, merciful, and present, and may He keep you within His pasture until hope becomes sight.
