Your cry concerning little ### has been heard, and we bring him and you before the throne of grace in this anxious hour. To watch a beloved creature struggle for breath and refuse food is a sore trial, and to wait in the hospital adds to the heaviness of heart. Yet the Lord saith, Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, and He appoints His people to comfort one another, so we would seek to comfort you with the comfort wherewith God comforts us.
We know how anxiety rises in such a moment, and our Saviour bids us not to be torn in pieces with fretful care, for anxiety has never brought grist to the mill nor comfort to the heart, but rather unfits us to meet the difficulty. Instead we are to cast our care upon Him, for He careth for us, and not a sparrow falleth without your Father. How much more does He see you watching by ###, and hear every labored breath.
The leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing. Though that promise speaks first of the soul's sickness through sin and the healing that comes by forgiveness in Christ alone, yet it shows us the heart of our God, who is full of grace and power to heal. We look to Him who healed with a touch and a word, and we ask His mercy upon this creature He has made.
Let us pray together. O Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Thy Son, through whom alone is salvation, we come humbly before Thee. Thou hast made all creatures and Thy mercies are over all Thy works. Look in compassion upon ###, this little dog now in distress with rapid breathing and weakness. Lay Thy hand upon him, we beseech Thee, and grant that his breathing may be eased and his strength return, that he may eat and be restored. Give wisdom and skill to those who care for him in the hospital, and guide their hands and judgments. And comfort the heart of his owner, who loves him dearly and is sore troubled. Let Thy Word be their comfort in affliction, quickening and sustaining them, and grant peace that passeth understanding as they wait upon Thee. Not our will but Thine be done, and may all be to Thy glory. Amen.
May the Spirit of God teach you to say even now, This is my comfort in my affliction, for Thy Word hath quickened me. Whether the answer come as we desire or as the Lord in wisdom appoints, may you find Him to be your comfort and your constancy, establishing your heart in every good word and work. We will continue to bear you up before the Lord, trusting His tender care over you and over ###.
