Early exit

Your honest and trembling prayer has been heard, and I thank you for pouring out your heart so plainly before the Lord. You fear that you have not been enough for others and not enough for God, that your rudeness and moodiness have pushed others away, and that the Lord perhaps does not hear you at all. Let that fear be answered at once by the Word of God, for there is forgiveness with Him.

Do you tremble and shake for fear, and with a penitent heart desire forgiveness, then hear this blessed whisper which drives away despair, There is forgiveness. There is forgiveness with God, and that forgiveness is divine. It is not the forgiveness of a fellow creature which you might seek in vain, but I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions. It is surprising forgiveness, so surprising that the Lord repeats it, I, even I, lest any of us should doubt it. And it is complete forgiveness. When a soul trusts in Christ, sin is so entirely gone that it is as though it had never been. It is not forgiveness up to a certain point or up to a certain date, but a full and eternal forgiveness through Jesus Christ His Son, who died, the Just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God.

You say you are scared you will never be enough, especially for Him. Hear then that forgiveness is not given because you are enough, but because Christ is enough. You need not bring a payment to your great Creditor, for you have nothing to pay with. You are to come as you are and put your trust in Christ, and the Lord promises oblivion to all your debt. Him that cometh to Me, He says, I will in no wise cast out. Do as Luther did when in dark distress, and say with the Creed, I believe in the forgiveness of sins, and believe in that forgiveness for yourself, now, at this moment. However sinful your life may have been up until now, there is forgiveness with God even for you, and He continues daily to forgive.

Because you have received such great forgiveness, learn also to seek it of those you have grieved. If you have been rude and moody and have pushed away daughter, friend and sister, go to them in humility and ask their pardon. It is a joint business of mutual forgiveness among Christians, and we who have had so much forgiven should find it natural to open our hands to forgive and to seek forgiveness.

Concerning your studies and your desire to graduate early, to make your family happy and to focus on your career, I would have you be prudent and diligent, yet not eaten up with worry. Our Saviour would not have you be so affected by external things as to get into a state of fretfulness and distress. Anxiety does not comfort anybody, nor does it bring any grist to the mill. Indeed, the very anxiety which arises from being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty. Be diligent in the work set before you, use the means God has given you, and leave the outcome in His wise hands.

Let us pray for you. O Lord our God, with whom there is forgiveness, look upon this anxious soul who confesses her sin and fears she is not enough. For Christ's sake blot out her transgressions and give her to know with certainty that she is forgiven, accepted and beloved in Him. Quiet her fearful heart and give her peace with Thee. Help her to walk gently and kindly with her family and friends, and to seek and to show forgiveness. In Thy providence guide her studies. If it be Thy will and for her good and Thy glory, grant her desire to graduate early, but above all make her to prosper in the things that are eternal and to find her sufficiency not in achievement but in Christ. Keep her from despair and teach her to cast all her care upon Thee, for Thou carest for her. In the name of Jesus Christ our only Saviour, Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your honesty before God is precious and He does hear you, even when you feel He is far away. The very fact that you can see where you have been rude and moody and that you grieve over it shows that God is at work in your heart. He does not listen only to those who are already perfect. He listens to the humble heart that confesses its need.

Do not let the fear that you will never be enough drive you to push others away. None of us is enough on our own, and that is why we need Jesus Christ. Through Him alone we have forgiveness and peace with God. When you confess your sins to Him, He is faithful to forgive and to cleanse. His approval does not come because you have earned it, but because Christ has earned it for you. Rest in that grace, and then turn that grace outward. Where you have been rude or distant, go to your family and friends in humility, ask their forgiveness, and let your actions show the change God is working in you. God often uses these struggles to make us more mature and to prove our faith, so bear this season patiently and thankfully, trusting that He is shaping you through it.

Your desire to graduate early and to focus on your career and to make your family happy is a good desire, and it is right to bring it to the Lord and to work hard with the strength He gives you. Continue to be diligent in your studies, do what is in your hands to do faithfully each day, and trust the outcome to Him. God hears every prayer offered in faith, but He answers according to His wisdom and timing, which is always better than ours. Whether He grants the early graduation as you hope or leads you on a longer path, He will use your faithfulness for your good.

Let me pray for you now. Father, I thank You for this daughter who has come to You with an open heart. Forgive her for the times she has spoken harshly and pushed others away. Wash her in the blood of Your Son and give her assurance that she is loved and heard. Take away her fear and fill her with Your peace. Help her to walk in kindness and self control, to be reconciled where there has been distance, and to grow in faith. Give her diligence and clarity in her studies, and grant her request to graduate early if it is according to Your will. Above all, let her know that she is enough in Christ and that Your grace will carry her through. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Your honesty before God is precious, and He does hear you even when you feel He does not. The sense that you are not enough and the guilt you carry for being rude and moody and pushing others away is weighing on you, and that is how guilt works. It does not stay hidden. It nags at the conscience and will come out in different ways until it is brought into the light. Trying to cover it or ignore it only lets it linger like a plague on the heart.

What you are describing also shows how fear magnifies everything. When fear takes hold it exaggerates the problem until it feels like all things are against you, when that is not true. Fear and faith cannot live together in the same place. Where fear is allowed to rule, faith fades, and where faith in God is strong, fear loses its grip. Fear often pushes us to wrong reactions, to pull away from people and to assume the worst about ourselves and about God. The cure for that kind of fear is remembering the Lord, His presence and His character. As David said, though I walk through the valley of death I will fear no evil for You are with me. When we forget the Lord, fear grows. When we remember Him, we find confidence again.

There is relief for guilt, but it only comes through honest confession to God. David tried to hide his sin and said it was ever before him, and he found no rest until he acknowledged it to God. There is nothing that cleanses the conscience like coming to God openly, confessing what you have done, and receiving His forgiveness through Jesus Christ. You do not have to earn relief by punishing yourself or by trying to be perfect for your family or for God. Jesus has already made the way for forgiveness, and when He washes us, He takes the guilt away completely so we can walk with Him and with others again without shame.

God also has a providential plan for your life that is larger than this one pressure about graduating early. Just as He was working through years of difficulty to preserve Jacob's family and to bring Joseph to the place He intended, He is working in your life with purpose. That does not mean every wish will happen exactly as you ask or on your timeline, but it does mean you can trust Him with your family, your studies, and your future career. Bring your desire to graduate early to Him and ask for wisdom, diligence, and open doors according to His will, and trust that He will lead you step by step.

I am praying for you, that God will give you a deep assurance that you are heard and loved in Christ, that as you confess your sins to Him you will know His cleansing and peace, that fear will be replaced by faith as you remember His nearness, and that He will guide your studies and your future in the way that is best. Honor Him with your life and your choices, turn from what you know is wrong, and walk in reverence for Him, for the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and it leads to hating what is evil and loving what is good. He is faithful to hear, to forgive, and to direct your path as you trust Him.
