We come before the throne of grace with humble hearts, acknowledging that our Heavenly Father is rich in mercy and abounding in steadfast love. It is written in 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." We thank You, Lord, that when we come to You with a repentant heart, You are faithful to forgive and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
We lift up this dear one who has come seeking forgiveness. Though the specific sin is not named, we know that the blood of Jesus Christ, Your Son, covers all transgressions. We stand in agreement with this confession, asking that You would wash over this burden with the cleansing power of the Holy Spirit. Create in them a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within them, as David prayed in Psalm 51:10.
Father, we also pray that You would bring to mind any unconfessed sin that may be hindering this one’s walk with You. Search their heart, as it says in Psalm 139:23-24, "Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way." Grant them the courage to fully surrender every area of their life to You, for You alone are worthy of all our trust and devotion.
We rebuke any spirit of guilt or shame that may try to linger after forgiveness has been granted. There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, as Romans 8:1 declares. We speak life and freedom over this one, reminding them that they are a new creation in Christ—the old has passed away, and behold, the new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Lord, we also take this moment to emphasize the power of the name of Jesus. It is only through Him that we have access to You, our Heavenly Father. Acts 4:12 tells us, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved." We thank You for the gift of salvation through Your Son, and we pray that this one would walk in the fullness of their identity in Christ.
May this time of repentance and forgiveness draw them even closer to You. Strengthen their faith, deepen their trust, and fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. We pray that they would live each day in the light of Your love, bearing fruit in keeping with repentance and walking in a manner worthy of the calling they have received.
In the mighty and precious name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
