We come before the Lord with humble hearts, lifting up this prayer for forgiveness. It is a beautiful and necessary thing to seek God’s mercy, for we all fall short of His glory and are in constant need of His grace. The Scripture reminds us in 1 John 1:9, *"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."* This promise is sure, and it is by the precious name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father.
Yet, we must also remember that repentance is more than words—it is a turning away from sin and a turning toward God with a transformed heart. Jesus Himself said in Luke 13:3, *"Unless you repent, you will all likewise perish."* True repentance involves acknowledging our sins before God, seeking His forgiveness, and striving, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to walk in obedience to His Word.
We also notice that while the name of Jesus was included in this prayer, it is vital to understand why His name is the *only* name by which we can approach God. Jesus declared in John 14:6, *"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me."* There is no other mediator between God and humanity—no saint, no angel, no other path—only Jesus Christ, who gave His life as a ransom for our sins. If you have not yet placed your full trust in Him as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so today. Salvation is found in no one else, for *"there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved"* (Acts 4:12).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of forgiveness through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Lord, we ask that You would search the heart of the one who has sought Your mercy today. Reveal to them any area of sin that needs to be confessed and turned away from. Fill them with the Holy Spirit, that they may walk in repentance and obedience to Your Word. Strengthen their faith, Lord, and help them to cling to the truth that it is only through Jesus that we have access to You. May they experience the fullness of Your grace and the joy of a clean heart before You.
We pray for a deeper understanding of the sacrifice of Jesus, that His blood was shed for the remission of sins, and that by faith in Him alone, we are made righteous. Let this truth transform their life, that they may live in a way that honors You in all things.
Guard their heart from the deceitfulness of sin, and lead them in paths of righteousness for Your name’s sake. May they grow in the knowledge of Your Word and be equipped to resist the enemy’s lies. We ask for a spirit of humility and a hunger for Your presence, that they may walk closely with You each day.
In the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
