We join with you in bringing your family before the Lord, including your extended family, and we understand how painful and wearying dysfunctional patterns can be when they repeat over years and across generations. God sees the hurt, the division, the unspoken wounds and the cycles that keep repeating, and His heart is for healing, repentance and unity in the home. He designed the family to reflect His love and order, and He is able to break what has long felt unbreakable.
Scripture shows us that sin can echo through families, yet each person is responsible before God and each person can be made new in Christ. The Lord said in Exodus 20:5 that He visits the iniquity of the fathers on the children, but Ezekiel 18:20 also teaches that the soul who sins, he shall die, the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, and in Christ that chain is broken, for 2 Corinthians 5:17 says Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. Dysfunctional patterns such as bitterness, anger, unforgiveness, gossip, slander, manipulation, pride and lack of boundaries are not just personality flaws, they are works of the flesh that the Lord calls us to put away. We rebuke those patterns and the spiritual strongholds behind them, for they do not align with God's will for His people. Ephesians 4:31-32 commands Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. And Colossians 3:13 reminds us to bear with one another, and forgive each other, if any man has a complaint against any, even as Christ forgave you, so you also do.
We encourage you to take your place as a peacemaker while also walking in wisdom. Romans 12:18 says If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. That may mean choosing to speak truth in love, refusing to participate in gossip or triangulation, setting healthy biblical boundaries, and consistently modeling forgiveness and grace even when others do not. Psalm 133:1 says See how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to live together in unity, and that unity is not achieved by pretending dysfunction does not exist but by bringing it into the light, confessing sin, and pursuing reconciliation where possible. Joshua 24:15 declares but as for me and my house, we will serve Yahweh, and we encourage you to make that your daily commitment, that even if extended family members do not yet choose the Lord's ways, your household will be a place where Christ is honored and new patterns of love, patience and self-control as described in Galatians 5:22-23 are cultivated.
We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and that our prayers are heard. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already done so, we urge you to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, for Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is through His shed blood and resurrection that families are truly healed and made whole.
We pray together for you and your family now.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace and we lift up this dear one and every member of their family and extended family to You. Lord, we ask You to expose and break every dysfunctional pattern, every cycle of strife, unforgiveness, anger, bitterness, gossip and division that has held this family captive. Forgive us where sin has been tolerated or passed down, and create in each heart a new spirit. Pour out Your Holy Spirit to bring conviction, repentance and healing where there has been hurt. Teach each one to forgive as You have forgiven us, to speak with kindness and truth, and to pursue peace. We ask for wisdom for this dear one to know when to speak and when to be silent, when to draw close and when to set a boundary in love. Let Your peace reign in this family, and let this household be a testimony that You make all things new. Where reconciliation is possible, bring it, and where hearts are hardened, soften them in Your timing. We ask that You would be Lord over this family, that from this generation forward they would serve You and walk in Your ways. We pray all these things in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and our only hope, amen.
