Dysfunctional

We join with you in bringing your family before the Lord, including your extended family, and we understand how painful and wearying dysfunctional patterns can be when they repeat over years and across generations. God sees the hurt, the division, the unspoken wounds and the cycles that keep repeating, and His heart is for healing, repentance and unity in the home. He designed the family to reflect His love and order, and He is able to break what has long felt unbreakable.

Scripture shows us that sin can echo through families, yet each person is responsible before God and each person can be made new in Christ. The Lord said in Exodus 20:5 that He visits the iniquity of the fathers on the children, but Ezekiel 18:20 also teaches that the soul who sins, he shall die, the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, and in Christ that chain is broken, for 2 Corinthians 5:17 says Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. Dysfunctional patterns such as bitterness, anger, unforgiveness, gossip, slander, manipulation, pride and lack of boundaries are not just personality flaws, they are works of the flesh that the Lord calls us to put away. We rebuke those patterns and the spiritual strongholds behind them, for they do not align with God's will for His people. Ephesians 4:31-32 commands Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. And Colossians 3:13 reminds us to bear with one another, and forgive each other, if any man has a complaint against any, even as Christ forgave you, so you also do.

We encourage you to take your place as a peacemaker while also walking in wisdom. Romans 12:18 says If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. That may mean choosing to speak truth in love, refusing to participate in gossip or triangulation, setting healthy biblical boundaries, and consistently modeling forgiveness and grace even when others do not. Psalm 133:1 says See how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to live together in unity, and that unity is not achieved by pretending dysfunction does not exist but by bringing it into the light, confessing sin, and pursuing reconciliation where possible. Joshua 24:15 declares but as for me and my house, we will serve Yahweh, and we encourage you to make that your daily commitment, that even if extended family members do not yet choose the Lord's ways, your household will be a place where Christ is honored and new patterns of love, patience and self-control as described in Galatians 5:22-23 are cultivated.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and that our prayers are heard. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already done so, we urge you to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, for Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is through His shed blood and resurrection that families are truly healed and made whole.

We pray together for you and your family now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace and we lift up this dear one and every member of their family and extended family to You. Lord, we ask You to expose and break every dysfunctional pattern, every cycle of strife, unforgiveness, anger, bitterness, gossip and division that has held this family captive. Forgive us where sin has been tolerated or passed down, and create in each heart a new spirit. Pour out Your Holy Spirit to bring conviction, repentance and healing where there has been hurt. Teach each one to forgive as You have forgiven us, to speak with kindness and truth, and to pursue peace. We ask for wisdom for this dear one to know when to speak and when to be silent, when to draw close and when to set a boundary in love. Let Your peace reign in this family, and let this household be a testimony that You make all things new. Where reconciliation is possible, bring it, and where hearts are hardened, soften them in Your timing. We ask that You would be Lord over this family, that from this generation forward they would serve You and walk in Your ways. We pray all these things in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and our only hope, amen.

We are praying with you about the dysfunction that has settled into your family, including the extended family. It is exhausting to love people and keep getting pulled into the same painful cycles.

One thing that has helped many people is learning to think in terms of healthy boundaries. Think of it like a property line that clarifies what is yours to own and care for, your own values, thoughts, choices, time and energy, and what belongs to others. When that line is unclear, it is easy to slip into rescuing, people pleasing, avoiding conflict, or feeling guilty for saying no. Learning to give a clear yes or a clear no, even in small ways, can protect connection while also protecting freedom.

If it is helpful, you might start by noticing one pattern that repeats most often and asking, what part is actually mine to carry here? It can help to name that with one trusted pastor, counselor, or mature friend who knows your family context and can walk with you as you practice speaking honestly and kindly, stepping back from toxic interactions when needed, and inviting others to support you.

We care about you and we are asking God to bring more peace and wisdom into these relationships.

Father, in Jesus' name we lift this family to You. You see every pattern and every hurt. Give our friend wisdom to know what is theirs to carry and grace to set loving limits. Bring healing where there has been pain, and draw each person closer to You. Guide next steps and surround them with wise support. Amen.

Your burden for your family has been carried to the throne of grace, and we have prayed that the Lord will bring an end to these dysfunctional patterns and bring healing and holy order into your household and your extended family.

We are reminded that God in infinite grace entered into covenant with Noah and preserved him and his family, and they in freedom chose to enter the ark and so were saved. So we have asked that the same covenant mercy may rest upon your house, that you and yours may be found together in Christ, the true ark of salvation, for there is no other name by which we must be saved but Jesus Christ alone.

There are times when a family becomes disorganized and ill savored, as was Jacob's house, and then there must be a stand taken and a reformation. Jacob said, let us arise and go up to Bethel, and put away strange gods. We have prayed that the Lord will give you grace to take such a stand in your sphere, to put away whatever has caused division and sin, and to turn with double zeal to seek the Lord. We have prayed especially that family prayer, which is the nutriment of family piety and the castle of true religion in the home, may be restored and diligently maintained among you, and that private prayer may be more spiritual and constant. Where prayer is neglected, evil works in households, but where Christ is honored, peace follows.

We have also entreated the Great Physician for healing, for the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ has healing virtue. These healing leaves change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. We have asked that He who said, Son, be of good cheer, thy sins are forgiven thee, will join pardon and healing together in your family, forgiving sin and healing the wounds that sin has made, binding up the broken heart with bands of grace.

The Lord is the God of peace who has prepared everything necessary for perfect reconciliation, for God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them. We have prayed that this ministry and word of reconciliation may have free course in your family, that errors and failures of understanding and old offences may no longer divide, and that you may know what it is to be indeed one whole family in Him, still one undivided household in Christ whether on earth or in heaven.

May the Spirit of God lead you, for as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God, and this is the never failing mark of those who belong to His family. We pray that this likeness may be seen in you and spread through your kindred, that each one may ask, Do I belong to that family, and may come by faith to Him who alone can make us children of God.

We will continue to bear you up before the Lord, that He will purge out every evil, pour healing streams into your home, and cause grace to reign where dysfunction has reigned, to the praise of His glorious name.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We join you in prayer for your family and your extended family, asking the Lord to bring an end to the patterns that have caused pain and division.

We pray that God will bring healing where there has been hurt, repentance where there has been sin, and forgiveness where there has been offense. Dysfunctional patterns are often built over many years, and they are not undone in a moment. As healing in the body takes time and steady care, so healing in a family takes persistent prayer, truth spoken in love, and a willingness to walk in obedience to Christ.

We ask the Father to make your home a reflection of His heavenly pattern, ordered by His word. May He teach each member to love as He has described love, patient and kind, not self seeking, not easily angered, bearing all things and hoping all things. Where there has been harm done even among kin, we pray that the Lord would soften hearts, grant humility to confess wrong, and give grace to forgive as Christ has forgiven us.

We pray that each person in your family would look to Jesus Christ alone for salvation and for the power to live a new life, and that He would be the center of your homes. We ask Him to give you wisdom to set wise and loving boundaries, to speak the truth without harshness, and to seek the help of faithful pastors and believers who can walk with you.

May the Lord guard your heart from discouragement. Even when progress seems slow, God is at work through every prayer and every act of obedience. We will continue to pray that He restores what has been broken and establishes your family in peace, unity, and holiness for His glory.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, bring wholeness to this family. Break the cycles of sin and pain, and replace them with faith, love, and obedience to Your word. Let Your will be done in this family as it is in heaven. Amen.
