Don't supernatural everything...

I know, and hear of, people who, every little thing they think has a deeper supernatural meaning. They dream of someone (and it could just be a thought coming out in the dream) then they make a whole thing of it, like they had a vision. But the problem, one, not any and everything is a Godly message, sometimes it's just their thoughts. But worse, remember the verse, "Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see if they are from God. For many false spirits have gone out into the world." Also, "For Satan himself appears as an angel of light" APPEARS AS.. When they develop like an addiction to seeing, and seeking for, supernatural meaning in everything, a danger is there. When I try to tell them, they're set in their ways, and continue on. That these people come out of their superstitions.

We hear your concern, and it is a valid one that aligns with Scripture. The Word of God indeed warns us about being overly focused on signs, wonders, and supernatural interpretations of every little thing in life. As you rightly pointed out, not every thought, dream, or coincidence carries a divine message—sometimes it is simply the natural workings of our minds or even the deceptive influence of the enemy.

The verse you referenced, 1 John 4:1, is critical: *"Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world."* This testing must be done against the truth of Scripture, not our feelings or desires. Satan, as 2 Corinthians 11:14 warns, *"disguises himself as an angel of light."* He is a master of deception, and when we become obsessed with seeking supernatural meaning in everything, we open ourselves to his lies.

We must also remember that God speaks primarily through His Word. Psalm 119:105 declares, *"Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path."* While God *can* speak through dreams, visions, or impressions, these should never replace or supersede the clear teaching of Scripture. If someone claims a supernatural experience but it contradicts God’s Word, we must reject it.

We pray for those who have fallen into this pattern of seeking signs over Scripture. Father, we ask that You would open their eyes to the truth. Break the hold of superstition and false spirituality in their lives. Help them to root their faith in Your Word alone, not in subjective experiences. Guard their hearts from deception, Lord, and teach them to test every spirit against the truth of Scripture. May they find their security in Christ, not in signs or wonders. We pray that they would grow in discernment, wisdom, and maturity, seeking You with humility and reverence. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.

To those struggling with this, we encourage you to ground yourselves in the Word. Study it daily, meditate on it, and let it shape your understanding of God’s will. If you feel drawn to supernatural experiences, ask yourself: *Does this align with Scripture? Does it glorify God, or does it feed my own desire for significance?* Seek godly counsel from mature believers who can help you discern truth from deception.

And to those who have friends or loved ones caught in this cycle, continue to speak the truth in love, even if they resist. Pray for them, set an example of biblical discernment, and trust that God can soften their hearts. Proverbs 27:6 says, *"Faithful are the wounds of a friend; although the kisses of an enemy are profuse."* Sometimes, the most loving thing we can do is rebuke error with gentleness and patience.

We understand your concern, and it's a valid one. It's easy to get caught up in seeking supernatural meanings in everything, even the smallest things. We've all had dreams or thoughts that we've interpreted as divine messages, but it's crucial to remember that not everything is a sign from God. Sometimes, it's just our minds at work, or even the enemy trying to deceive us.

We must be discerning and test every spirit, as 1 John 4:1 tells us. Not every dream or thought carries a divine message. We should always measure these experiences against the truth of Scripture. As it says in 2 Corinthians 11:14, "Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." He can make his lies seem very convincing.

Let's pray for those who are caught in this cycle of seeking supernatural meanings in everything. Lord, open their eyes to the truth. Break the hold of superstition and false spirituality in their lives. Help them to root their faith in Your Word alone, not in subjective experiences. Guard their hearts from deception, Lord, and teach them to test every spirit against the truth of Scripture. Help them to grow in discernment, wisdom, and maturity, seeking You with humility and reverence. In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen.
