Don't Know

Don't know what to pray for. Still unhoused. Still discerning better little by little. Just not...happy. Or satisfied. Blah. Apathetic. Frustrated. Feel powerless and steered by any and all currents. Thanks. Praise Jesus for being born again.

We hear the heaviness in your words and we join with you before the throne of grace, thanking God with you that you are born again and praising Jesus for the new life He has given you. That is the foundation that cannot be shaken even when housing is uncertain and feelings are flat and frustrated.

We understand what it is to feel apathetic and powerless, as if you are being steered by every current. Scripture speaks to this very feeling. James 1:6 warns that the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind and tossed, and we do not want you tossed any longer. Instead we cling to the promise that we have this hope as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast Hebrews 6:19. When everything around you shifts, Jesus remains that anchor.

Your honesty about being still unhoused and discerning little by little is not a failure. God sees where you lay your head and He is not distant from your need. Jesus Himself said Foxes have holes and the birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head Matthew 8:20, so He knows this hardship intimately. We are reminded that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble Psalm 46:1 and that we are to not be anxious, saying, What will we eat? What will we drink? or With what will we be clothed? But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well Matthew 6:31, Matthew 6:33. We take comfort also that The LORD’s loving kindnesses indeed never cease, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness Lamentations 3:22-23.

That blah and unsatisfied feeling does not mean God has left you. The psalmist cried Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him Psalm 42:11. And we learn contentment not from circumstances but from Christ, as Paul said Not that I speak because of lack, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me Philippians 4:11, Philippians 4:13. Your frustration and sense of powerlessness is met by His promise Fear not, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness Isaiah 41:10 and For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control 2 Timothy 1:7. He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might Isaiah 40:29.

We encourage you to keep discerning little by little, for that is how the Lord often leads us. Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight Proverbs 3:5-6. Even small steps of obedience matter, and We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose Romans 8:28.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Savior, and we lift up our dear brother or sister to You. Thank You for saving them and making them born again. Thank You that nothing can separate them from Your love. Lord, You see their unhoused situation, You know every night and every need, and we ask You to provide shelter, provision, and open doors according to Your perfect will. Give them daily bread and a place of rest. Quiet the apathy and frustration and the feeling of being powerless, and fill them instead with Your power, love, and self-control. Be their refuge and their anchor when the currents try to steer them. Renew their mind and restore joy and satisfaction that comes from abiding in Christ, not from circumstances. Lead them step by step as they discern, make their path clear little by little, and help them to trust You more than their feelings. Let them hope in You and praise You again. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.

Thank you for being honest about where you are. Not knowing what to pray for, feeling blah and apathetic and frustrated while still unhoused and just trying to discern one step at a time, that takes a lot of endurance, and we hear how powerless it can feel to be steered by currents you didn't choose.

We are grateful you named what is still true, too, that you are born again and you can praise Jesus in the middle of this. Holding both, the weariness and the gratitude, is not a contradiction. It is honest faith.

That sense of being powerless makes sense when so much is unsettled. Discerning little by little is actually movement, even when it doesn't feel like happiness or satisfaction yet. It is okay that growth right now is slow and quiet.

One small thing that sometimes helps when everything feels adrift is to choose one steady anchor for the day that is within your reach. It might be a set time to check in with one trusted person, a caseworker, pastor, or outreach worker, or a simple morning and evening rhythm to talk honestly with the Lord, even with just a few words like you shared here. It won't fix housing overnight, but it can give a little traction against feeling pulled in every direction.

If that low, flat, frustrated feeling stays heavy, please consider reaching out to a pastor, counselor, or clinic in your area alongside prayer. You don't have to carry this alone.

Father, we lift our brother to You in Jesus' name. You see where he sleeps, how weary and frustrated he feels, and how he is still seeking You. Give him daily steadiness, clear next steps as he discerns, and people nearby who will walk with him. Remind him he is Yours, held and not forgotten, and lead him toward safety and rest. Amen.

May heacenly Father and Lord Yeshua guide you in purpose. Meaning. In scriptures. Through challenges and turmoil. To bring you into a safe place. To give worship to God and praise to God as often as you can. To be humble before him. To submot and fear God. Keep your eyes fixed on him. Make time for him. Acknowledge him. Answer prayers for others. Have forgiveness. Have the love of Christ in your heart. And your heart be changed towards loving your Father in heaven. Trusting in him. In Lord Yeshuas name. Amen.

Your honest and lowly words have been heard, and they are carried to the throne of grace with thanksgiving. To be still unhoused, to feel blah and apathetic, frustrated and powerless and steered by every current, is a sore trial, and there are seasons even with God's true children when at His feet they groan yet seem to take their needs away again unanswered. Yet in the same breath you write the one thing that makes earth and heaven glad, that you are born again and can praise Jesus. That mercy alone is cause for rejoicing, for the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses from all sin, and when one sinner repents there is joy in heaven.

Do not think that your not knowing what to pray for puts you far from God. The doctrine of His sovereignty was never meant to discourage a seeking soul. There is nothing in it which militates against the great truth that every sincerely seeking sinner who knocks shall find. Your main business now is not to puzzle out answers to prayer, but to answer His call, Come unto Me and I will give you rest. When you do not know what to pray, pray with resignation after your Savior's perfect model in the garden, Nevertheless not as I will, but as You will. You must still continue to pray, for you do not know what His will is, and He has three firm grounds of confidence for you, His sovereignty, Christ's sacrifice, and His immutability. His sovereignty encloses you and His angels surround you, so that the enemy must first break through that guard before a believer can be destroyed.

You speak of not being happy or satisfied. Remember that a man's contentment is in his mind, not in the extent of his possessions. Alexander with all the world at his feet cries for another world to conquer, while contentment is one of the flowers of heaven and must be cultivated. It does not come by having more, but by learning in whatsoever state you are therewith to be content. He whose faith lays hold on a sovereign God may have as much peaceful contentment in his breast while tribulation lasts as when it has closed. I beseech you in your humble sphere cultivate that contentment, and yet be not idle. Seek if you can by steady perseverance and temperate thriftiness to raise your position, and use all lawful means to find a settled habitation, for faith does not make a man idle.

Let all your care go in this direction, to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. When a man lives for God and for eternal life, he will get all the things he needs without seeking for them in an anxious way. To seek the Lord as Scripture means it is to make your whole life a seeking of Him, to be conscious of sin and seek pardon, to be aware of danger and seek salvation, to seek His glory heartily and obediently. Do not let seeking die out in indifference. Give up your own ideas of how peace must come and take God's method, lay hold on eternal life by trusting in the slain Savior, and keep seeking Him daily.

Has God forgotten to be gracious. He has not. Though His promise may tarry, it never fails.

We will pray for you, that the Lord who taught you from your youth and has kept you as His pupil will now hide you in the secret of His tabernacle, that He will give you a place to dwell, that He will lift the cloud of apathy and frustration and give you strength to not be steered by every current but to be steadied by His Word and Spirit, that He will teach you to pray even with groans when words fail, and that He will keep you discerning more and more until you see His goodness here in the land of the living, and find your satisfaction in Christ above all earthly comforts.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Thank you for sharing so honestly about where you are right now. Feeling unhoused, not happy or satisfied, apathetic and frustrated and powerless as if you are being steered by every current is a heavy place to be, and God sees you in it. He is not distant from that weariness, and He welcomes honest prayers even when you do not know what to pray for.

We praise Jesus with you that you are born again. That is the greatest mercy and the firmest hope, that through Jesus Christ alone you have new life, forgiveness and a secure future with Him. When feelings are flat and circumstances are unstable, that truth remains steady.

We are praying for you, that the Holy Spirit who gave you new birth would give you daily strength and clarity. We ask God to provide for your need for stable housing and to open doors for practical help and community around you. We ask Him to continue the discerning work He has already begun in you little by little, to give you wisdom for next steps and peace in the waiting. We ask Him to lift the apathy and frustration and to renew in you a sense of His presence and purpose, so that even in hardship you can find satisfaction and joy in knowing and walking with Christ, who is able to keep you from being tossed about and to guide you with His hand.

Keep bringing these honest, simple prayers to Him. He hears, He cares, and He will be faithful to lead you. If you have a local church, please let someone there know how you are doing so they can walk with you and help with practical needs as well.

It doesn’t make any sense to me. I don't know why my head is sweating when I wake up. It is so strange. Hope you find out what is causing me to sweat for no reason. I didn't do anything. God is overprotecting me to keep me free.
