Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your honesty in sharing this pain matters, and I am grateful you reached out even while you feel ready to be done with life. Hearing that you have been crying and pleading and wondering if Jesus cares, and that you have a loaded gun nearby, tells me how heavy and urgent this moment is. Please do not stay alone with these thoughts. If you can right now, put distance between yourself and the gun, get to a safe place with another person, and reach for help immediately. In the United States you can call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, call 911 if you are in immediate danger, go to your nearest emergency room, or call a trusted pastor, family member or friend to stay with you. Your life is precious and you do not have to face this hour by yourself.

Jesus does care about your tears and your pleading. He sees and hears you even when you feel numb or past feeling. There is a story of Lazarus who had been dead four days, and his friends came to Jesus on his behalf when he could not come himself. When you feel unable to pray or to feel anything, it is not too late for friends, for brothers and sisters in Christ, and for Jesus himself to come near. Let someone come close to you now and help carry you to him.

The feeling that you do not belong to Jesus is painful, but belonging to him does not rest on the strength of your feelings or on having perfect works to show. Scripture teaches that no one is made right with God by works, so that his grace and kindness may be shown. He did not wait until we had works to offer, but as those abandoned of works he saved us by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. If you have trusted him, even with a weak and trembling faith, you are his. And if you are unsure, you can turn to him right now and ask for his mercy. He receives those who come to him.

You mentioned not wanting to go to hell. It is right to take eternity seriously. Hell is real and fear of it can keep us from treating sin and death lightly, but God does not want you to perish. He wants you to live and to find life in his Son who died and rose again. The apostle speaks of bearing about in the body the dying of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be shown in us. That means our present afflictions, even daily deaths of sorrow, are not the end of the story. The same Jesus who was raised will also raise and sustain those who trust him. He met his fearful disciples after the resurrection saying do not be afraid, and he meets you in fear now with the same word.

You do not have to decide your future in this moment of despair. Please reach out right now to one person who can be with you physically, and to professional help as well. Tell a pastor or counselor what you have shared here, let them know about the gun so they can help you stay safe, and keep talking honestly about the pain you carry. You are not forgotten, your cries are heard, and there is hope beyond what you feel tonight. God is able to lift the stone, to bring life where there feels like only death, and to give you next steps one day at a time by his grace.

Your honesty about how much pain you are carrying matters, and I am grateful you shared it instead of staying silent with it. Feeling ready to be done with life, feeling that Jesus does not hear your crying and pleading, and wondering whether you even belong to Him at all is an overwhelming place to be. Please do not stay alone with these thoughts right now. If you have a loaded gun near you, please put distance between yourself and it right now, make it safe by giving it to someone else or locking it away, and reach out immediately to someone you trust, a family member, a friend, a pastor, or a counselor. If you need to talk to someone right away in the United States you can call or text 988, and if you are elsewhere you can call your local emergency number or go to your nearest emergency department. You do not have to face this hour by yourself.

Scripture shows us that Jesus is not distant from this kind of suffering. He is described as our great high priest who has passed into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, and we are not told about a priest who cannot understand us. We are told we have one who can be touched with the feelings of our infirmities, who was tempted in every way as we are yet without sin. That means He understands weakness, sorrow, loneliness, and the weight of temptation from the inside. Because of who He is and what He has done, you do not have to clean yourself up or prove you are worthy to approach God. You are invited to come boldly to the throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Your tears and prayers are not ignored there. He is the mediator who represents people before God and represents God to people, so your access does not depend on your strength but on His.

Part of why you feel so hopeless is that feelings can be so loud and changeable, and faith is not built on feelings. Feelings shift with circumstances, exhaustion, and despair, but God's word does not shift. Many people describe salvation by how they felt in a moment, and then others try to measure whether they are saved by whether they feel a certain way. The Bible grounds assurance differently. It rests on what God has said and promised. Salvation is not simply believing that God exists. It is a life changing relationship that comes through trusting Jesus Christ alone, confessing that Jesus is Lord and believing in your heart that God raised Him from the dead. God has given His word so that in times of trouble we will not give up, but will continue to hope in His faithfulness.

That hope is needed because despair is real. When you look only at your circumstances and at yourself, it is easy to sink to the bottom. One prophet looking at ruin and desolation felt that same hopelessness. The turn came when he got his eyes off his condition and onto the Lord. We are not told to rejoice in our circumstances, which can be crushing, but to rejoice in the Lord, to hope in Him and quietly wait for His salvation. The battle is not yours to fight in your own strength. God is able to fight for you.

You wrote that you do not think you belong to Jesus anyway. The Bible answers that fear with a very wide invitation. The grace of God that brings salvation has appeared and is offered freely. Whosoever will may come, and Jesus said that whoever comes to Him He will not cast out. It is called a great salvation because it is open to anyone who will come and because it reaches the lowest sinner. There is no escape if we neglect it, but there is full welcome if we receive it. Today is the accepted time, today is the day of salvation. You do not need to wait for a better feeling or a better record. You can come to Him now, just as you are, and trust His promise.

You also described trying so hard and feeling like you have failed. That place of saying, O wretched man that I am, who will deliver me, is a place many have known. The answer is not found in trying harder to deliver yourself. Deliverance comes through Jesus Christ. God often allows us to come to the end of our own efforts so that we stop boasting in what we can do and learn to give glory to Him who causes us to triumph through Christ and to find victory through His Spirit at work in us. It is not until we understand His grace and our position in Christ that we can enjoy full assurance. If assurance depends on our works, we will never have it. When it rests on His mercy and grace through Christ, we can have blessed assurance that Jesus is ours, because His word says so.

Please hear this. Your life has value to God. He does care about your crying and pleading, and He invites you to keep coming to Him for mercy and help. If you have never clearly trusted Christ, you can do that now by telling Him you need Him, that you believe He died and rose for you, and that you want Him to be your Lord and Savior. If you have trusted Him before but now feel numb or distant, that feeling does not erase His promise. Bring that very feeling to Him honestly and ask Him to help you trust what He has said more than what you feel.

Take a next step right now toward safety and support. Call someone to be with you, let a trusted person know about the gun so you are not alone with it, and reach out for ongoing help from a pastor and a counselor or medical professional. Keep coming boldly to that throne of grace. Ask God to show you His salvation, to lift your eyes to Him, and to give you hope to wait on Him one day at a time.
