Doing things for others means...?

Ok."Love your neighbor as yourself."Also,"If someone asks you for your outer garment, give them your inner garment also", and,"If someone impresses you into service for one mile, do 2 miles." Yes, when someone asks something of me, once I do it, I usually follow that and try to do the best possible.Once I agree I CAN do what they want.BUT, sometimes we read a general statement in the Bible, but I think we also have to use judgement and wisdom for each SPECIFIC situation.First, not everyone who comes to you for "help" legitimitely needs it. Sometimes they're just a lazy person who wants to avoid responsibility and let others do things for them.{And they start to make a habit of it.}In that case, would we be "helping" them by encouraging them in a bad habit?{How would they break the bad habit if someone is assisting them in it?}{Or another example of them asking us to assist them in sin.}But not only even that,I say use judgement on who "needs" us more.If we have a 5 yr. old son who, the babysitter took them somewhere, and you get a call from the hospital that they were in a car accident, and your son is on life support, and you're on the way to the car to see what's up,but a neighbor who has a knack for "needing" you at the most inconvenient times {for things she can do herself}says, she's a little tired, can you mop her floors for her?Would you forget all about your possibly dying son, to cater to this persons, by comparision, minor, need?{Or, anything important that you need to do,and someone at an inconvenient time asks for your "service"}.Alot of us have aging parents, if our mother has died, and we're on our way to the funeral, and someone you know says, "I forgot to get apples at the store, can you run and get them for me?"would you just forget the funeral? So my point is, when we read we're supposed to "help" everyone, I would say, though, use wisdom and judgement as to what to do in each SPECIFIC situation. I think our response should be tailored to the specific circumstances of each situation.Wouldn't you think? What made me think of think of this, a lot of people have been "tugging on me" lately, and usually at bad times.I think God realizes that circumstances vary, and we might have to "tweak" our responses accordingly.

Steven, just always show love in everything that you do, and sometimes that can be difficult.

'Show love in everything you do.'
- Love should be the guiding force in our daily lives.
- God is love and when we show love we are being like God to others.
- In a world that is harsh and unforgiving, we should shine His love around us.
- In everything you do today and in the future, remember to do it all in love.
PRAYER: Lord, may my life reflect Your great love to those around me. Let me not act out of character with the love I have received. Instead let me be a dispenser of Your love to those I come in contact with. Amen.

This is complex. I would weigh the situation and follow my inner voice. Hungry, sick, spuritually broken, berieved, orphans and elderly these are the situations that are commom circumstances. Sometimes people want to be listened to and supported. Helping people is not always materialistic. I can't offer money but I extend my hand, give a shoulder to cry on; provide a second wing so that we can fly together. We are all birds with one wing and need a second wing to fly high. Sometimes greeting a person and a smile makes that person's day.

That's about what I'm saying, weigh the situation. If a person asks me to keep getting cigarettes, and they get cancer from it, how have I helped them?I assisted them in their self destructive habit. But like you say, weigh the circumstances.

We all have seen better days and also we have seen worse ones. Just be thankful to Jesus for using you to help others. It is not giving money to those in need, it is praying for them and Jesus will save their souls and change their heart and will bless their life. Material possesions given to the poor will not save them from going to hell. It is our care and concern for their souls. Where will they end up when they die? Cigarettes, liquor, harmful drug habits comes from satan. He wants to destroy you body and your soul. Do not let him in your life or the life of others. Helping them encourage everyone to come to Jesus and find relief in Him alone. Invite them to church and be their friend. Jesus will bless your life when you do this for Him.

Brother Steven, in my opinion cigarettes are not a need. Cigarette smoking is a habit that has health consequences. Alcohol as well. Basic needs eg food, shelter, water, fresh air, love, warmth...some people stand at the street intersection asking for money to buy drugs/ alcohol. If you give them food they swear and throw it in the bin. Tough love is required sometimes. We must love responsibly. Martha

I can function best doing things at my own pace. But most often things are flying at me at breakneck speed way beyond my preferences to deal with. That the pace of things slips down to a pace more suitable to me.

I like doing things at my own pace and lately things have been flying to me at breakneck speed and it's above my pace to deal with it. For things to SLOW DOWN.
