First let me say, I love the Bahamas. I am an island girl, I love crab, that you have to dig up out of the holes in the ground, not into craw fish or lobster. I love my fish with the head on, the eyeballs, tongue & brain are very tasty. I love to smell the fish & conch around the docks. I love the accent & colloquialism. I love the smallness of the island, the small public transportation, jammed neighborhoods with lots of small kids playing in the street. You can walk out on the street & wait for another Bahamian to come along if you want someone to talk to, you don't have to know them. The fact that 'all a we are one' - is a true statement makes it mandatory to be careful how you to treat those you do not know, they are either family or friend of your family. It is run by the church pastors & their members.
This familiarity breeds corruption, although most do not see it that way, (it's just the way we do things , man). You have to know someone to get anything done & you must be in good favor of some of the higher ups. 'Favor for favor', as we say. However, this absolutely means breaking Gods' laws to advance in life. Most go to church for this reason, most majority black nations are steeped in African occult practices, the Bahamas is no exception but they are done in the name of the Lord. It is no longer 'working roots' or looking for the 'obeah man/woman' - it is spiritual warfare. So does the church having influence & power help or hurt it's mandate to make followers Christ like.
You will always get a good crowd response to a revival or altar call, look for those people later, they are back wallowing in the mud. I'm so long winded, I really only wanted to post one paragraph to go with these reports, all of which was done by strong church attenders:
Foreign investors have been ripped off in the Bahamas for decades.
It started with ship-wreaking back in the Colonial days and it lives on in the corrupt courts of the Bahamas today.
From Harry Oakes and other land owners, to insurance companies, grocery stores, restaurants and banks… corrupt Bahamian lawyers setup businesses for foreigners, only to steal what they can and sweep the mess under a rug.
Just like foreigners are denied justice in The Bahamas, they are also denied fair business practices.
The Gallaghers, John Travolta and Harald Fuhrmann are just a few of the foreigners that were wronged in the Bahamas and discarded by the corrupt dysfunctional justice system.
One Bahamian lawyer stole over $500,000 from a Chinese man who was opening a restaurant in Nassau. That lawyer is now second in command of a major political party.
Another Bahamian lawyer, famously, stole an entire insurance company from a Caribbean firm. He was later made Governor General.

The Bahama Journal reports that Arawak Homes may repossess as many as 1500 homes in the Lynden Pindling subdivision.
The homes were allegedly constructed on land owned by the home development company, which is owned by Frank “snake†Wilson.
Wilson’s company has been in the news many times over the past year as they grabbed land that they say belongs to the company, a claim disputed by the many unsuspecting homeowners who have built their homes on land they thought they owned.
Wilson’s claims to the land are tenuous at best. They rely on obscure court judgements that were handed down by judges, some of whom are no longer on the bench and a few of whom have developed a reputation for selling decisions.
Even more culpable are the many government entities, banks, lawyers and real estate agents who sold the land to individual homeowners possibly while knowing that the titles were not clear.
The real estate industry in The Bahamas is riddled with corruption. There are no real titles to land in the Bahamas. Titles to land are like lottery tickets… whoever is holding the title is the owner of the land. Also, courts routinely grant title to individuals based on the most absurd explanations. This is usually done by crooked judges, working at the behest of corrupt lawyers, who know full well that the deal they are brokering is not valid.
Corrupt lawyers work with corrupt real estate agents and crooked bank officers to fleece people on a regular basis in The Bahamas.

Let me add that the judges, lawyers, insurance & real estate people mentioned attend churches that believe in eternal security.
