Doctors Appointment

Your anxiety over the doctor’s visit and the money needed to care for your nephew is natural, but remember what we truly possess in Christ. You ask for a financial blessing, yet think what blessings you already have: you call God Father. That single name contains remission of sins, adoption, sanctification, and a share in the inheritance of the saints. No amount of silver can compare to this spiritual wealth, which neither doctors nor debt can touch.

I will pray that the appointment is brief and free of trouble, but do not hang your heart on such relief. Often God permits delay and discomfort to detach us from carnal hopes. Look at Jacob: he obtained the blessing, yet spent his days in servitude, danger, and fear, while his brother lived in ease. Where did the promise find fulfillment? Only in the world to come. For carnal blessings, smooth days and full purses, are not the true blessing; they often turn the soul from higher things. Our Lord said, “In the world you have tribulation.” He leads us away from earthly props so we may grasp the “every spiritual blessing” spoken of by the Apostle.

The adoption of your nephew is a beautiful work of mercy, and alms-giving of this kind is rightly called a blessing. I urge you to pursue it with all virtue, but do not let family expectations crush you. You serve a Master who sees your labor, not a master called mammon, which enslaves the wretched with endless suits and strifes. To bow under the tyranny of financial fear is to fall away from the greatest blessings. Walk in the freshness of good deeds, trusting that the Gospel’s full reward awaits, not necessarily in this age, but in the rest that remains for the people of God.

So pray: “Our Father, who art in heaven.” That lifts your mind there, where true treasures lie. Seek first His kingdom, and the things needful for this life will be added according to His wisdom. I join you in asking for provision, but pray also that your hope remains fixed yonder, lest you fail through unbelief as the Israelites did in the desert. The Lord bless you with health of soul, peace in the appointment, and all that truly benefits you, not merely a carnal blessing, but the grace to abound in good works, to the praise of the Gospel.

The weight you are carrying right now is not lost on the Lord, the doctor's visit, the financial pressure, the deep desire to provide for your nephew. But take a moment and see what is happening beneath the surface of these requests. You are stepping into a role that mirrors something eternal. Adoption is not just a legal process you are walking through; it is the very way God brought you into His own family. Through faith in Jesus Christ, you were chosen, redeemed, and made an heir. You are not just helping a child; you are living out a picture of the gospel. That reality does not remove the present difficulty, but it anchors it in a hope that cannot be shaken.

The desire for a financial blessing is real, and God cares about what you need to care for this child. But look at how His blessing works. It is never cheap or based on a momentary need. Isaac wanted to give the blessing based on a savory meal, something immediate and pleasing to the flesh, but God’s blessing flows according to His deeper purposes. The blessing of Abraham was not about quick cash; it was a covenant: “In blessing I will bless you.” That promise extends to those who are children of Abraham by faith, and that is you. God’s blessing in your life is already secured in Christ. Your provision may come in a way you do not expect, but it will come because He has pledged Himself to you. He who did not spare His own Son will faithfully supply what is needed.

The adoption of your nephew is not something you are doing alone. Remember Jacob, sent back to his family with the word of God gripping his heart: “Return to your country and to your family, and I will deal well with you.” He faced an uncertain meeting with Esau, a brother who had reason to be hostile, and with 400 men no less. The pressure from your extended family may feel like its own approaching army. Unspoken expectations have a weight that is hard to describe. But Jacob, fearful as he was, went forward on the promise of God, not on his own ability to manage everyone’s demands. He sent gifts of blessing ahead, he humbled himself, and God dealt with the situation. Your responsibility is to walk in obedience and love; God will handle the hearts of those around you.

Do not measure God’s blessing by the speed of the doctor’s appointment or the arrival of funds, though both are real needs. The blessing runs far deeper. It is the inheritance you have in Christ: redemption, forgiveness, being sealed with the Holy Spirit. You have been blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Him. When those truths settle in your soul, your life becomes so rich that the outward pressures lose their grip. Many have found that God kept pouring out goodness until they could not handle it, not always in material terms, but in the fullness of His presence and provision. He is doing that in you as you care for this child.

Praying now for the doctor’s appointment to go smoothly, for wisdom and for a peace that fills the waiting room. Praying also for the financial provision to come in such a way that you see the hand of God clearly. And praying that your family sees the eternal blessing you are giving this boy, a heritage of faith that no earthly expectation can match. The promise of grandchildren is called the ultimate blessing, but the joy of raising a child in the fear of the Lord is no small foretaste of that very thing. You will see good in the land of the living. Peace to you, and the blessing of the Lord be upon you.
