Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing your heart for your son as he travels for his holiday. It is right and good to bring him before the Lord and ask for the covering of His hand.
We join you in asking for God's mercy and grace and peace to be upon him. In Scripture mercy is not getting what we deserve and grace is receiving good that we do not deserve, and both come only from God. He is free to show mercy as He wills, and we never come claiming protection as something owed to us. We come humbly asking Him to be merciful, and we thank Him that He is merciful, His mercy as high as the heavens above the earth toward those who fear Him. We can ask with confidence because He has shown us such mercy in Jesus Christ.
We also pray for what you called journey mercy. Scripture shows those who were about to make a dangerous journey through an enemy land pausing first to seek the Lord, to fast and pray and ask for His good hand to be upon them. They did not trust in their own strength or provision but in the Lord to strengthen them for the journey and to protect them along the way. In the same way we ask that the good hand of God would be upon your son, to sustain him, to guard him from harm and danger, to grant him health and safety going and returning.
God knows the love a father and mother have for a son, and He understands that love more deeply still as our Heavenly Father. He loves to hear a parent bring a child before Him. We pray that your son would know the Lord's nearness and keeping wherever he goes, that the Lord would watch over his steps, keep him from evil, and bring him home safely. We also pray that this time would be an opportunity for him to see the Lord's kindness and to walk in wisdom.
We stand with you in prayer that the Lord would surround him with His protection, grant him health, keep him from accident and harm, and give you peace as you entrust him to the Lord's care. May the grace of God, His mercy, and His peace from the Father and from Jesus Christ our Lord be with you and with your son. Amen.
