Divine Justice

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Last year our family encountered a extreme form of narcissistic abuse from in-law where they attacked family memories. I still get angry over what this person did and i get flashbacks of the memories that have been destroyed , this person also decided to do property destruction and destroy many family legacy items that didn't belong to them . I am praying for divine justice for the ungodly things this person did.

We have heard your cry and we grieve with you over the deep wound that was inflicted on your family. To have family memories attacked and to have legacy items that did not belong to that person deliberately destroyed is a grievous sin before God. It is theft and destruction and God sees it fully. He is not blind to what was done in secret or in anger. We understand why you still feel anger and why flashbacks come when you remember what was lost. Those memories and heirlooms mattered because family and heritage matter to God.

We want to gently remind you what Scripture teaches about divine justice and about the anger that lingers afterward. Vengeance belongs to the Lord and He will repay. Romans 12:19 says, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord. And Deuteronomy 32:35 says, Vengeance is mine, and recompense. The Lord is a just judge who loves justice and He will not leave the guilty unaccounted for. Psalm 37:28 says, For Yahweh loves justice, and doesn’t forsake his saints. You can place this in-law and what was done entirely into His hands, trusting that His justice is perfect in both timing and measure, even when earthly justice feels absent. This does not mean you must seek personal revenge or hold onto hatred. Romans 12:21 tells us, Don’t be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

At the same time we must lovingly address the anger and the flashbacks you are carrying. It is right to be angry at evil, but Scripture warns us not to let that anger take root in our hearts. Ephesians 4:26 says, Be angry, and don’t sin. Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath, and Ephesians 4:31 says, Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. Hebrews 12:15 warns us to watch lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and many be defiled by it. When we hold onto bitterness it does not punish the one who harmed us, it wounds us further and gives the enemy a foothold. Forgiveness as Ephesians 4:32 teaches, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you, does not mean what was done was okay or that you must immediately restore close fellowship with someone who has not repented and who continues in destructive behavior. It means you release the right to repay into God’s hands and you set wise and firm boundaries to protect your family from further abuse. God can heal the brokenhearted and bind up their wounds as Psalm 147:3 promises, and He can give you peace that guards your heart and mind as you bring every anxious thought and every flashback to Him in prayer. Philippians 4:6 says, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, and Philippians 4:7 says the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. We encourage you to take every painful memory captive to the obedience of Christ as 2 Corinthians 10:5 teaches and to ask Him daily to renew your mind.

We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to share why His name is so essential. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only through Him that we are saved and our prayers are heard. John 14:6 says, Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord. Romans 10:9 says, that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is in His name that true justice, forgiveness, and healing are found.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one and this family to You. Lord, You saw every act of destruction, every attack on memory and legacy, and You know the pain and anger that still rises up. We ask You to be their just Judge and to bring divine justice according to Your perfect righteousness. We ask You to heal their broken heart and to bind up their wounds. Take away the root of bitterness and replace flashbacks of pain with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Teach them to release vengeance into Your hands, to forgive as You have forgiven us, and to walk in wisdom with healthy boundaries against further harm. Guard their thoughts and renew their mind day by day. Let them know Your nearness as their refuge and avenger, and draw them ever closer to Jesus, in whose name we have access to Your throne. We trust You to restore what was broken in the ways only You can, and to let Your justice and mercy be seen. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.

We were sorry to read what your family went through last year. When someone attacks family memories and destroys legacy items that were not theirs to touch, the loss feels deeper than the objects themselves. It makes sense you still feel angry and that flashes of what happened come back without warning.

That kind of anger often comes from what counselors call an injustice gap, the space between how you wish things had been made right and how they still feel unresolved. Carrying that gap for months is exhausting, and it does not mean you are failing. It means the hurt mattered.

We want to walk with you as you seek God's justice and your own healing. One gentle next step that helps many people is to give that anger a contained place, rather than letting it replay all day. You might set aside a specific time to write down what was lost, what those heirlooms represented, and what memories and stories no one can destroy and are still yours to keep and pass on. Sharing that list with a trusted pastor or Christian counselor can help you sort boundaries with this in-law going forward and find steady ways to honor your family story. If the flashbacks stay intense or disrupt sleep and daily life, please consider reaching out to a counselor or medical professional alongside prayer, not instead of it.

Father, we bring this family and this hurt to You in Jesus' name. You see what was done and You see the anger and grief that remain. We ask for Your righteous justice in Your way and timing, and for protection, wisdom and peace for this dear one as they heal. Guard their memories, steady their heart when flashbacks come, and lead them day by day. Amen.

Your sorrow over what has been lost and broken is heard, and the anger and flashbacks that still rise up within you are not hidden from the Lord who sees all that is done in secret and in open destruction.

It is a grievous sin when one who is joined to a family by law should instead attack its memories and lay waste to what was entrusted as legacy, destroying what did not belong to him. The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and of great mercy, yet He is also just, and no wrong escapes His eye. Vengeance belongs to Him, and He will by no means clear the guilty nor forget the cry of those who are wronged. You do well to place justice in His hands rather than your own, for He judges righteously and His justice is satisfied in His own holy way.

At the same time, the bitterness that lingers can become a burden that wounds your own soul more deeply than the first injury. Our great pattern is this, even as Christ forgave you, so also do you. Consider how He forgave. His disciples He gently rebuked, but He never spoke to them in anger, and a life of forgiveness was crowned by His dying prayer for His persecutors, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. He loved His enemies, He lived for His enemies, He died for His enemies. This forgiveness is given in the most complete possible manner. He keeps no back reckonings. He retains no reserves of anger.

There is forgiveness with God, that He may be feared. Divine pardon is the only forgiveness possible, for no one can remit sin but God only, and that forgiveness when it is given in Christ is full and complete and eternal. When we have tasted how freely and fully we have been forgiven for Christ's sake, not for any merit of our own, we are then constrained to admire the way in which Christ forgives as much as the forgiveness itself, and to follow Him in His truth and heartiness.

One effect of truly beholding the cross and its bitterness is to take away all bitterness against our fellow men. When we see the awful guilt of sin and the wrath it provokes, and then see Christ bearing it for us, the world loses its charms and the heart is made tender toward those who have offended us. This does not call evil good, nor does it declare that destruction of property or cruelty to a family is a light thing. It simply releases the offender to the just hands of God, while asking the Lord to keep your own heart from being consumed.

Therefore let us pray that the Lord will do what only He can do. May He establish justice in His perfect time and way, restrain further evil, and bring to conviction what needs conviction. May He heal your memories, quiet the flashbacks, and redeem what can be redeemed. May He grant you grace to copy the pattern set before you, not in your own strength, but as one who has first received great forgiveness for great sin, and so is enabled to forgive even as you have been forgiven. And may the bitterness that now haunts you be turned into that holy mourning for sin which makes Christ very sweet to the soul.

We will bring your burden before the Lord, asking Him to be your defender and your peace, and to sanctify even this trial for your good and His glory.
