Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing this heavy burden concerning your mother and your grandmother's estate. Forty years of unauthorized building, selling and occupying land that was never properly divided has created deep hurt, and it is understandable that you long for fairness and for what is right to finally prevail.
God is a God of justice and righteousness, and He wants justice to prevail. Scripture shows that where justice is perverted the whole order of life breaks down, and where truth falls in the street equity cannot enter. The Lord sees when people trust in emptiness and speak what is not true, and He stands as the One who defends the poor and the oppressed and who calls for equal justice for all. Your desire for an honest and equal division is not wrong. It reflects His own character.
The Bible also shows how much God cares about family inheritance. Under His law He gave careful provision to keep an inheritance from being dissipated or broken up. If land was sold, there was a right of redemption so it could be bought back and remain in the family, and if a person could not redeem it a kinsman could step in. When there were no sons, daughters were given an inheritance so the family name and portion would not be lost, but they were to marry within the tribe so the inheritance would not be scattered. Rulers were specifically warned not to take the people's inheritance by oppression or to thrust them out of their possession by force. No one was to move a boundary marker or reverse what was rightfully due. God intended each family to receive and keep what was allotted to them.
That is why the responsibility of the appointed administrator is so serious. Like Moses and Joshua, who did not use their position to build up their own families or secure special advantage, the one who administers an estate is called to act with integrity and not for selfish gain. We will pray that this person carries out the duty with honesty, impartiality and faithfulness, seeking what is lawful and fair for every heir.
At the same time Scripture reminds us that the greatest inheritance is not land at all. The Levites were given no portion in the land because the Lord Himself was their inheritance, and that was the better portion. Property can be divided, contested and built upon without right, but to have the Lord as our portion is lasting. I pray your mother will know that comfort even as she waits for earthly justice. Following Jesus can be costly for family relationships, and He calls us to love Him above all, which frees us to seek what is right without being consumed by bitterness or by a desire for personal vengeance. Vengeance belongs to the Lord, and He will judge righteously.
We will join you in prayer that God will bring conviction where there has been pride, entitlement and disregard for what is lawful, that He will restrain further unlawful use of the land, and that through lawful means there will be accountability. Whether that means compensation for what was taken or sold, or the removal of what was built without right, we ask that what is recovered would be distributed fairly to your mother and to all rightful heirs who have not yet received their portion. We pray also that hearts would be softened toward repentance and, where possible, toward reconciliation.
May the Lord grant wisdom to the administrator, peace to your mother, and a just and orderly resolution that honors both the law and the memory of your grandmother. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, the only One through whom we have access to the Father and in whom our true and eternal inheritance is secure.
