Divine guidance

Your heart for this situation reflects what Scripture teaches in Proverbs 29:18, that without God speaking and guiding, people cast off restraint and run wild, but there is joy and safety in walking in obedience to His word. I join you in praying that God will work in this way.

It helps to understand why people can become so disrespectful and cause so much trouble. There is a constant conflict within every person between the flesh and the spirit, and when the flesh is given free reign it can become cruel and unruly. People also easily follow voices that tell them what they want to hear, and that deception keeps them away from the Lord who alone can save. God does not give guidance to be harsh, His commands and boundaries are given to protect His people from corruption that would otherwise spread and do deeper harm. His desire has always been to say to people, you shall be my people and I will be your God, and to call them to be set apart and ready to meet with Him. A true shepherd does not rule with force and cruelty for his own advantage, but cares for the flock and seeks its good.

So let us pray together in the name of Jesus Christ, who alone is the hope of salvation and who died to heal broken lives and ruined relationships.

Father, we bring this former landlord and those around him before you. You see the wild and disrespectful ways and the trouble that has been caused. We ask that you would soften his heart and grant him repentance, that he would submit to you and receive your divine guidance. Open his eyes to see his need for Jesus, turn him from following his flesh and from listening to deceiving voices, and bring him to obey your law. Restrain what is wild and bring the joy and peace that comes from walking in your ways. Guard all who have been hurt by this trouble, and let your shepherd care be known. We ask this in the name of Jesus, amen.
