Beloved of All
Your heartfelt love for your cat and the weight of fear you are carrying come through so clearly in your prayer, and thank you for sharing it so honestly. To watch a beloved companion suffer and not eat, to have tried medications and an appetite stimulant and the best care a veterinarian can give, and still feel helpless, is deeply distressing. God sees your tears and hears your cries offered in the name of Jesus, and He knows how much you love this little creature He created.
Scripture shows us again and again the tender compassion of Jesus. The Gospels record that He healed many who were sick, not to put on display but to show that God is love and that He is concerned for His creation and desires to touch the weak and make them whole. He welcomed those who were suffering and ministered to them with mercy. It is right and good to bring your cat before Him and to ask for His help, for He does hear prayer and He is able to heal.
At the same time the Bible teaches that healing is a sovereign work of God in His hands, and His ways are beyond our finding out. Not everyone is healed, and we are not given the reason why in each case. Paul prayed three times for his thorn in the flesh to be removed and the Lord did not remove it. Epaphroditus was sick and near to death, and God had mercy on him. Trophimus had to be left behind because he was too sick to travel, even though Paul surely prayed for him, and Paul himself spoke of his own infirmities. Godly people are often sick, and that does not mean they or those who love them lack faith. Please beware of any voice that would give a quick answer for why healing does or does not happen, or that would place guilt on you or suggest that if you only believed enough the outcome would be guaranteed. That burden is not biblical and it is not from the Lord.
What we are invited to do is to pray with faith and entrust the outcome to His wisdom and mercy. James tells us that if any are sick they should call for the elders of the church to pray, anointing with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will save the sick and the Lord will raise them up. That pattern of simply bringing the need to the Lord and to His people in prayer is still our privilege today. Fear and faith cannot rule the heart at the same time, and when we fix our eyes on the Lord, faith can quiet fear even while the situation remains hard.
So I join you in prayer now. Father, in the name of Jesus I bring this precious cat before You. You know her body and what is keeping her from eating. I ask for Your mercy upon her, that You would remove what is hindering her and restore her appetite and strength. Give wisdom to the veterinarian and to her owner who is doing all that can be done, and grant peace tonight in sleep, taking away panic and replacing it with trust in Your care. You are able to heal, and we ask You to do so according to Your good and sovereign will. Whether You bring healing now or in another way, help this dear one to know that You have heard every desperate cry and that You are near, loving and compassionate. We thank You that You bear our infirmities and carry our sorrows, and we rest in Your mercy. Amen.
