Depression, which medications?

natasha2

Beloved of All
Lord I am worried about my mom who is ### years old. She shows signs of depression. But we are afraid to give her more than ### medications a day. With that medication she must take one more because it hurts yp our digestion. So all together ### medications. Lord please guide us what to do Lord šŸ˜‡

We understand your deep concern for your mother, and we join you in lifting her up before the Lord, seeking His wisdom, healing, and peace for her mind, body, and spirit. Depression is a heavy burden, but we serve a God who is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). While medications can be a tool the Lord uses for healing, we must first and foremost seek His face, for true and lasting hope is found in Him alone.

It is wise to be cautious with medications, especially as we age, for our bodies become more sensitive to their effects. The fear of overmedication is valid, and we encourage you to seek the Lord’s guidance in this, as well as the counsel of trusted, godly medical professionals who can provide wisdom in balancing her physical and emotional needs. Proverbs 11:14 reminds us, *"Where there is no wise guidance, the nation falls, but in the multitude of counselors there is safety."* Do not hesitate to seek second opinions or alternative treatments that align with biblical stewardship of the body, which is the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

Yet, even as you consider medical options, we must not overlook the spiritual and emotional roots of depression. The enemy often uses despair to steal our joy and blind us to the hope we have in Christ. Encourage your mother to cling to the Lord, to meditate on His promises, and to cast her burdens upon Him, for He cares for her (1 Peter 5:7). If she is not already doing so, gently urge her to spend time in Scripture daily, for God’s Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105). Verses such as Philippians 4:6-7—*"In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus"*—can be a balm to her soul.

If she does not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, now is the time to share the Gospel with her. True peace is not found in medications or circumstances but in the Prince of Peace Himself. Jesus said, *"Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest"* (Matthew 11:28). There is no depression so deep that His love cannot reach it, no darkness so thick that His light cannot pierce it. If she has not surrendered her life to Him, pray for her salvation, for without Christ, there is no lasting hope.

We also encourage you to examine her environment and relationships. Is she isolated, or does she have a community of believers surrounding her? Proverbs 17:22 tells us, *"A cheerful heart makes good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones."* Ensure she is connected to a Bible-believing church where she can receive prayer, fellowship, and encouragement. If she is able, gentle physical activity, time in nature, and acts of service can also lift her spirits, for we are created to glorify God in all we do, including how we care for our bodies and minds.

Now, let us pray together for your mother:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy yet hopeful hearts, lifting up this precious mother to Your throne of grace. Lord, You know her every thought, her every ache, and the depth of her sorrow. You are the Great Physician, the One who binds up the brokenhearted and heals the wounds of the soul. We ask that You would touch her mind and heart, Lord, and fill her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Remove the spirit of heaviness and replace it with the garment of praise (Isaiah 61:3).

Father, we pray for wisdom for her family as they seek the best care for her. Guide them to godly counselors and medical professionals who will honor You in their recommendations. Give them discernment to know when to say "yes" and when to say "no," and grant them the courage to trust You above all else. Lord, if there are medications that are necessary, let them bring healing without harm. But more than anything, let her find her strength and hope in You alone.

We rebuke the spirit of depression in the name of Jesus Christ. Satan, you have no authority here—this woman is a child of the Most High God, and we command you to flee from her presence (James 4:7). Holy Spirit, fill her afresh, comfort her, and remind her that she is fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). Restore to her the joy of Your salvation and uphold her with a willing spirit (Psalm 51:12).

Lord, if there is any unconfessed sin, any bitterness, or unforgiveness in her heart, bring it to the light and help her to release it to You. If there are relationships that need reconciliation, give her the humility and strength to seek peace. Surround her with Your love, Lord, and let her feel Your presence in tangible ways. Open her eyes to see the blessings You have placed in her life, even in the small things.

We also pray for this family, Lord. Give them patience, endurance, and a unity of spirit as they care for their mother. Let them be a reflection of Your love to her, speaking life and hope into her soul. And Father, if she does not know You, we pray that this season of struggle would drive her to the cross, where she might find eternal hope in Jesus Christ. Softens her heart to receive Your truth, and let her surrender her life to You.

In the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Healer and Redeemer, we pray. Amen.

Stand firm in your faith, dear one. The Lord hears your prayers, and He is at work, even when we cannot see it. Trust in Him with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6). Keep praying, keep believing, and keep pointing your mother to the One who holds her future. He is faithful, and He will sustain her.

We're right there with you, praying for your mom. It's tough seeing someone we love struggle with depression, but remember, we serve a God who is close to the brokenhearted. Let's keep lifting her up to the Lord together.

We know you're worried about medication, and it's wise to be cautious. Let's ask God for wisdom in this, and seek the counsel of trusted medical professionals who fear the Lord. We should also consider alternative treatments that align with biblical stewardship of the body.

While we're considering medical options, let's not forget the spiritual and emotional roots of depression. Encourage your mom to cling to the Lord, meditate on His promises, and cast her burdens upon Him. If she's not already doing so, gently urge her to spend time in Scripture daily. Verses like Philippians 4:6-7 can be a real comfort.

If she doesn't have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, now might be the time to share the Gospel with her. True peace isn't found in medications or circumstances, but in the Prince of Peace Himself.

Let's also look at her environment and relationships. Is she isolated, or does she have a community of believers surrounding her? Ensure she's connected to a Bible-believing church where she can receive prayer, fellowship, and encouragement. Gentle physical activity, time in nature, and acts of service can also lift her spirits.
