Depression and trauma

Your request for prayer has been heard and we are joining you before the Lord for healing from depression and the wounds of childhood trauma.

God sees what has been carried for so long, even what others cannot see, and He does not turn away from a wounded heart. Scripture calls Him the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in affliction, and it tells us to cast all our cares upon Him because He cares for you. Healing from deep trauma is often not instant but a work God does over time, like a physician who applies medicine faithfully until health returns. Do not be discouraged if the weight does not lift at once. Remain close to His voice in His Word, for faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God, and continue to walk with faithful believers who can support you and pray with you. If you have access to wise pastoral counsel or trusted Christian counseling, we encourage you to seek that help as part of God's provision for your restoration.

We pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we lift up this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, through whom alone we have salvation and access to Your throne of grace. You know the pain of childhood, the memories, the sorrow and the depression that has followed. We ask You to bring Your healing to mind and heart, to calm troubled thoughts, to mend what was broken, and to give peace that passes understanding. Teach this heart to hear Your voice and to rest in Your love. Bring renewal day by day, and where there is darkness, bring Your light. Help this one to persevere in hope and to know that You are near to the brokenhearted.

We also pray as you asked for your loved ones who struggle in similar ways, including your former boyfriend. We ask God to have mercy on each of them, to draw them to Himself, to bring comfort and healing according to His will, and above all to bring them to know the hope and new life that is found only in Jesus Christ.

May the Holy Spirit, whom Jesus called the Comforter, remain with you and strengthen you, and may you find that even as the wind moves where it will beyond our full understanding, so the Spirit of God is at work in ways we cannot fully trace, bringing life and restoration. Keep seeking the Lord, keep bringing your heart honestly before Him in prayer, and trust that He who began a good work will be faithful to complete it.

We will continue to pray for you.

Thank you for sharing so honestly about the pain you have carried since childhood. Depression and trauma leave deep wounds, and God sees what you have been through. We are praying for you, and we are also praying for the people you love who are struggling in similar ways, including the young man you mentioned, that each of you as individuals would find healing and hope in Jesus.

We believe strongly that God does heal, and that He heals in many ways. Scripture shows that Jesus healed every kind of sickness and disease, and also exercised authority over spiritual oppression, and calmed the wind and waves. Matthew applies the prophecy of Isaiah to Jesus in this way, surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sicknesses, and that word for griefs can also mean infirmities. When Jesus broke the bread and said this is my body which is broken for you, He was pointing to what He would bear for us on the cross, for both spiritual and physical restoration. That healing is still for today because God is able.

At the same time there is much about healing that we do not fully understand. We do not always know why some people experience instant relief while others experience a gradual process. The Gospels record one healing that happened gradually, which reminds us that God is not confined to a single pattern. Sometimes Jesus touched people, sometimes He only spoke a word from a distance, sometimes He visited a home, sometimes He told someone to go home and they found the work already done. Healing that comes slowly through natural processes God has built into our bodies and minds is no less divine than healing that comes in a moment, for He is the one who created those processes. This is especially true for the wounds of the mind and emotions. God can bring healing to scars and memories and the deep hurts of the past.

Please do not carry the false idea that if healing has not yet come it must be because of hidden sin or because you lack faith. That is not scriptural. Even the apostle Paul prayed three times for his thorn in the flesh and God did not remove it in the way he asked. Good people suffer, and it is not always a direct result of something they have done. The Holy Spirit gives gifts as He wills, and He is sovereign in how He works. There is a lot of phoniness and exploitation done in the name of healing today, and God is not honored by frenzy or showmanship. We simply look to Jesus quietly and trustfully.

For the heaviness of depression, the Psalms give us honest language. The psalmist spoke to his own soul when he was cast down and discouraged and said, why are you so downcast within me, hope in God. That hope is not a vague optimism but a person, Jesus Christ, through whom we have salvation alone. As you place your hope in Him, bring your needs to Him in prayer, stay in His Word, and invite faithful believers and elders to pray for you as Scripture teaches. God often works through ordinary means as well, including wise counsel and the steady, gradual work of restoration over time.

We are praying that God would bring that kind of deep, whole healing to you, to your loved ones, and to the young man you mentioned, that each of you would know the forgiveness and new life that comes through faith in Jesus alone, and that God would heal what is wounded in mind and heart and body according to His wise and loving will. We pray that He would lift discouragement, bring peace where there has been trauma, and lead each of you into a walk that honors Him, including His design for relationships and marriage as a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, with intimacy reserved for within that covenant.

Father, we lift this dear one to You. You know the childhood pain and the present depression. You bore our infirmities and carried our sicknesses. We ask for Your healing touch on mind, emotions, and body. Where healing is gradual, give patience and strength for the process You have ordained. Where discouragement is heavy, teach each heart to hope in You. Draw each person mentioned to salvation through Jesus Christ alone, and make them whole in Him. We ask this in the name of Jesus, who is our healer and our hope. Amen.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer for healing from depression and the trauma you experienced as a child.

We have continued to lift you up before the Lord asking Him to bring healing to your heart and mind and to restore what was broken through those early wounds. We have also prayed for your loved ones and for your ex boyfriend and for all who may be struggling in similar ways that God would bring comfort peace and hope to each of them. We cling to the promise that the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit Psalm 34:18 and that He will strengthen us and uphold us with His righteous right hand Isaiah 41:10.

If your request was answered please post a praise report and let us all know so we can rejoice with you. If your request does not seem to have been answered please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer.

We pray in Jesus Name that God will bring you His deep healing and peace and that He will bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son Jesus Christ Amen.
