Demons in sofa

My deceased ###’s sofa in my parents’ home is demonized. I’ve been sleeping on it and I felt hands reaching up and legs coming out from under it. Tonight I saw a man crawling next to it. Mom loved my aunt and will not get rid of it. Please pray that God would have mercy on us and deliver this home from demons in Jesus’ name. Amen.

We have heard your cry and we are standing with you in prayer for mercy and deliverance for your parents home in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. We understand how frightening and distressing it must be to feel hands reaching up and to see a man crawling near that sofa while you have been sleeping there, and we do not take these experiences lightly. We believe that the spiritual realm is real, and that the enemy seeks to bring fear and oppression, but we also know that our God is far greater and that He has given us authority over all the power of the enemy.

Scripture reminds us that we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places, Ephesians 6:12. Yet we are also told, You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world, 1 John 4:4. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control, 2 Timothy 1:7, and Jesus Himself said, Behold, I give you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing will in any way hurt you, Luke 10:19.

We want to encourage you not to continue sleeping on that sofa if it is a place of oppression and fear. While demons do not necessarily dwell inside objects, objects can be associated with past practices, memories, or even be a point that the enemy uses to harass, and Scripture warns us not to bring what is unclean into our homes, Deuteronomy 7:26. It is wise to separate yourself from that place of torment and to fill your home with the presence of God through prayer, worship, and the spoken Word. We encourage you to honor your mother as the Lord commands, Exodus 20:12, and to speak to her and your father gently and respectfully about what you have experienced, asking if you can pray together over the home and if they would consider removing or at least not using that sofa for sleeping. If they are not willing to remove it, you can still take spiritual authority over your own dwelling place and your own body which is a temple of the Holy Spirit.

We urge you to submit yourself fully to God, to resist the devil and he will flee from you, James 4:7. Speak the name of Jesus aloud over that room and over your home, read Scripture aloud, sing praises, and pray without ceasing. He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty, Psalm 91:1. Do not try to communicate with or investigate the apparition you saw, but command it to leave in the name of Jesus Christ. If possible, invite a mature Christian believer or a pastor to come and pray through the home with you, anointing the home with oil and proclaiming the lordship of Jesus over every room.

We now join together and pray for you and your parents.

Father in heaven, we come before Your throne together in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, and we thank You that there is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved and by which we have access to You, Acts 4:12, John 14:6. We plead the blood of Jesus over this dear one and over this parents home. Lord, we ask for Your mercy and Your perfect peace to fill that house. We rebuke every spirit of fear, oppression, and darkness that has been harassing Your child, and we command every unclean spirit to leave this home and this sofa and to go where Jesus sends it, never to return. We declare that Jesus is Lord over this home. Fill every corner with Your Holy Spirit, with Your light and Your truth, and let no darkness remain. We pray that You would give wisdom and softness of heart to this mother and father, that they would understand the seriousness of this oppression and that they would seek You together for cleansing and protection. Give this dear one courage and faith, guard their sleep, and let them rest in the shadow of Your wings. Help them to dwell in Your Word daily and to walk in obedience and holiness before You. We ask for complete deliverance and lasting peace, and we thank You that You hear us when we pray in Jesus name. Amen.

We encourage you to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, to put on the whole armor of God each day, Ephesians 6:11, and to remember that the Lord is your refuge and your fortress. Keep praying aloud in Jesus name, keep Scripture playing or reading in your home, and do not give place to fear. We are continuing to pray with you that God will bring full deliverance and that your parents home will be a place of peace that honors Him.

Thank you for trusting us with this. Feeling hands and legs near you as you sleep, and seeing a figure by the sofa, would leave anyone shaken and on edge, especially when it is in your parents' home and you feel you cannot change the situation. We hear how heavy this has been and we are praying for mercy and peace over you and your family.

We believe God is present with you in that home and stronger than anything that frightens you at night. He does not leave you to face fear alone, and He hears when you call on Him in Jesus' name. Fear can also grow when we are tired and isolated, so it helps not to carry this by yourself. You have done the right thing in bringing it into the light and asking others to pray.

A gentle next step while you keep praying could be to find another place to sleep for now if you are able, and to invite a trusted pastor or mature believer your parents respect to come alongside the family. Having someone there in person to pray with you, to listen to both you and your mom with care, and to help you think through next steps together can bring wisdom and unity when you feel stuck between honoring your mom and needing rest.

Father, we lift this home to You and ask for Your mercy. Cover this family with Your peace at night, guard their hearts and minds, and give them wisdom and unity as they seek You. Draw each of them closer to You and show them the next right steps. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your cry for mercy has been heard, and the fear which has come upon you in the night is not hidden from the Lord. To feel hands as it were reaching up and to see a form crawling beside you where you sleep must greatly trouble the soul, and it is no small trial to be in your parents home where love for your departed aunt keeps that sofa in place though it brings you distress.

Let it never be forgotten that in all that God does He acts from good reasons, and He has not left His people under the power of darkness without hope. The Scripture says, He has delivered us from the power of darkness, and again, He is gracious unto him, and says, Deliver him from going down to the Pit, I have found a ransom. Nobody would have thought of that way of deliverance if God had not thought of it, and He has not only invented a way but He has found a ransom in the precious blood of His Son. Deliverance from the power of sin and from the power of the enemy is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin, and we must look to our heavenly Father altogether and alone for it. It is not of him that wills nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy.

Therefore fear not, for that word is often upon the lips of Christ Himself. Fear not, I am with thee, says the Lord. Fear is weakening and it dishonors God when we forget that the arm which piled the heavens shall never be palsied. The Lord has chastened His children sorely at times, yet He has not erased their names from His heart or His hands, nor yielded them up to the enemy. He that has said, I will help thee, will keep you even in the night watches. If you are at the mercy seat, God is there too, for He loves the mercy seat better than you do, and He has never forsaken them that seek Him.

I entreat you to turn wholly to the Lord Jesus Christ, in whom alone is salvation and safety. Do not put your trust in any object, nor in any power of your own to cleanse a piece of furniture, but cast yourself upon Christ who has triumphed over darkness. Seek another place to sleep if it be possible, that your mind and body may have rest, and honor your mother while you do so. Let the Word of Christ dwell richly in that home. Pray aloud in the name of Jesus, read the Scriptures there, sing the praises of God, and ask a faithful pastor or elders of a Bible believing church to come and pray with you in the home. Fill the house with prayer and with the declaration of the works of the Lord, for light drives out darkness.

Let us pray together.

O gracious Father, have mercy upon this soul and upon this household. You are gracious and You say, Deliver him from going down to the Pit, for You have found a ransom. In the name of Your Son Jesus Christ, who bore our sins and spoiled principalities and powers, we ask that You would deliver this home from the power of darkness and from all fear. Let no evil have dominion there. Keep this dear one sleeping and waking, and let Your perfect love cast out fear. Show Your power that this afflicted one may not die but live and declare the works of the Lord. Bring peace into that room, comfort to the mother, and rest to all who dwell there. Keep them by Your might until they get safely home. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our only hope and ransom, Amen.
