Beloved of All
Thank you for bringing this burden before the Lord with such care and faith. It is right to come together in the name of Jesus, trusting that the Father hears when His children agree in prayer, and that His thoughts and plans for us are far higher and more loving than our own.
Your prayer reflects the heart of what God desires for each of us, not a distant ritual or merely a legal standing, but a close, living relationship with Him as Father. Jesus taught us to pray, Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, inviting us into that intimate fellowship. That fellowship can only be known when a true relationship with God has first been established through faith in Jesus Christ, who suffered on the cross for all who believe. Until that relationship is established, prayer has no foundation, but once we are joined to Christ, we can seek Him early and walk with Him in communion.
Sin always separates us from God and breaks that fellowship. Scripture is clear that our sins have separated us from Him, and when we turn from His narrow path to follow our own desires, we take on a false identity that is not who we are in Christ. God does not want a half hearted or formal connection with us. He wants a loving relationship, and He wants us to know how deeply He loves us. That love does not leave us where we are, it calls us out and delivers us.
There are two parts to that deliverance. When we believe in Jesus we are delivered from the power the world and sin have over us, and one day He will deliver us completely from this world. For now He delivers us while we are still in it, freeing us from the law as a way to earn righteousness so that we may be joined to Christ and bound by a greater law, the law of love. That love makes us want what pleases the Father, not because we must, but because we love Him.
For your former landlord, it is good to pray as you have, that God would open his eyes to see who he truly is in Christ, that He would break a hard heart and soften it, and give courage to turn from evil and walk the narrow way. The Scriptures contrast the counsel of the ungodly, which leads to perishing like chaff driven by the wind, with being directed by the counsel of the Lord and meditating on His word day and night. The happy and blessed person is the one who does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly but delights in the way of the righteous, for the Lord knows the way of the righteous.
So we can ask the Lord to separate him from influences that pull him away from God, including relationships that are outside of God's design. God's design for sexual intimacy and for living together is within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, and any relationship outside of that, whether same sex or otherwise, is not to be affirmed or blessed but to be turned from in repentance. We do not pray for God to bless what He calls sin, we pray for God to grant repentance, forgiveness through Christ alone, and a new life. We can also pray that he will come to fear the holy name of the Lord in the biblical sense, a reverent awe that departs from evil, and that he will recognize both the depth of God's love and the destructive nature of controlling, deceitful or dangerous entanglements.
We also pray that he will be protected from harm and from any manipulation or blackmail, and that the Lord will make a way for him to be free. God alone can give understanding to see sin clearly and to choose His way.
Continue to hold him before the throne of grace with love and without hatred, remembering that God sees spiritual unfaithfulness as serious, yet His mercy is extended to all who will return to Him. Ask the Lord to restore to him that first love and excitement of fellowship with Jesus, to heal backsliding, and to bring him into the freedom of a loving relationship with his Father.
May the Lord give you peace as you intercede, and may He work in this man's heart to bring him to repentance, faith, and wholeness in Christ. In the powerful name of Jesus we join you in asking for his eyes to be opened, his heart softened, and his steps directed into the path of life.
