We are standing with you in prayer for your husband and for your marriage, and we thank you for bringing this request before the Lord in the name of Jesus. We know how heavy and painful it can be to live with anger in the home, and we praise God that you are seeking His deliverance and healing for your husband.
The Word shows us that anger itself is a serious matter that must be dealt with quickly and surrendered to Christ. Eph 4:26-27 says Be angry, and don’t sin. Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath, neither give place to the devil. And Eph 4:31 says Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. Col 3:8 also tells us But now you also put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and shameful speaking out of your mouth. Anger that is not brought under the control of the Holy Spirit can give the enemy a foothold and it does not produce the righteousness God desires, for James 1:19-20 reminds us So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger; for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God.
We also know that God is able to deliver and transform the heart. He promises to give a new heart and to produce in us the fruit of His Spirit. Gal 5:22-23 says But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law. When your husband yields to Christ, the Holy Spirit can replace anger with peace and self-control. Prov 15:1 teaches us A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger, and we pray that this gentleness will mark both of your lives and your home.
We encourage you to continue to pray fervently for him, to speak truth in love, and to model the gentle and quiet spirit that honors God. We encourage your husband, as your lifelong covenant partner in marriage before God, to humble himself before the Lord, confess anger as sin, repent, and daily ask for the Holy Spirit to rule his heart and his tongue. If his anger has led to harsh words or actions, we urge him to seek accountability with a mature believing brother or pastor and to pursue counsel that is grounded in Scripture, so that he may learn to walk in patience and love as Christ loves us.
Let us pray together.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, our only Savior and mediator, and we thank You that we can approach Your throne of grace through Him. We lift up this dear husband to You and ask for Your deliverance. Lord, forgive him for the anger that has taken root, wash him in the blood of Jesus, and set him free from every chain of wrath and bitterness. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit and let Your fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness and self-control grow richly in him. Teach him to be swift to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger, and to put away all malice and harsh speaking. Heal any wounds in his heart that have fed this anger and give him a new heart that seeks to love his wife as Christ loved the church. Lord, strengthen this wife as she prays and supports her husband, guard her heart with Your peace, give her wisdom to respond with a gentle answer, and let Your love and unity reign in their marriage. Let their home be a testimony of Your redeeming power and grace. We ask this according to Your will and for Your glory, in the mighty name of Jesus, amen.
We encourage you to keep trusting the Lord, to remain steadfast in prayer and in the Word together, and to believe that God who began a good work is faithful to complete it. Psalm 37:8 says Cease from anger, and forsake wrath. Don’t fret, it leads only to evildoing. We are joining with you believing that God will bring deliverance, peace, and renewed love into your marriage as you both seek Him.
