Thank you for sharing this burden and for asking for prayer for you and for your son. I have prayed for you both and I want to share some hope from Scripture that speaks directly to what you have asked.
In the Bible, the curses you are concerned about were spoken about in a very specific way. When God gave His covenant to Israel, He set blessings before them for obedience and curses for disobedience. From one mountain the blessings were declared and from Mount Ebal the curses were declared, and the people were to answer Amen, which means so be it, acknowledging that God is right and just in what He says. The curses were not vague spells that float from person to person. They were the stated consequences of turning away from God's voice and breaking His commands. Scripture says those curses would pursue and overtake a people who refused to hearken to the Lord.
That is why the good news of Jesus is so important here. No one can keep the law perfectly, and all of us have fallen under its judgment, but Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us on the cross. When you trust in Jesus, you are no longer under that covenant curse. You are under His grace and His blood. So we do not pray as if we must chant away a dark power by our own words. We pray in the name of Jesus, who alone has authority to break the power of sin and to set us free. If there has been disobedience or open doors to sin in the past, the path to freedom is honest confession, repentance, and trusting Christ to forgive and cleanse. God promises to blot out the past for those who turn to Him, so that times of refreshing may come from His presence.
For your son, I am praying for his health in a balanced, biblical way. Scripture shows that Jesus bore our infirmities and our sicknesses, as Matthew explains when he quotes Isaiah, surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows. Jesus went through towns and villages preaching the kingdom and healing every kind of sickness and disease among the people. That shows His compassion and His power to heal.
At the same time the Bible is honest that healing is not always instant or in the way we expect. Paul prayed three times for his thorn in the flesh to be removed and God answered differently, showing His grace was sufficient. Sometimes Jesus healed instantly with a word, sometimes He healed gradually, and sometimes He healed through the natural processes He Himself built into our bodies. Any true healing is divine, whether it comes in a moment or through a steady process over time, because God is the one who created the body and its ability to recover. I do not fully understand why some are healed quickly and others walk a longer road, but I do believe God hears and cares and is able to heal both body and soul.
For safe weight loss, I am praying that God will give your son wisdom, discipline, and encouragement to care for his body as a steward of what God has given him, and that He will guide any doctors or counselors who help him, so that change comes in a healthy and lasting way rather than through harsh or dangerous means.
For healing from past hurts, I am praying deeply. The deepest wounds often come from people we trusted, when words that sounded smooth covered a heart that was not faithful. That kind of hurt leaves scars on the mind and emotions. Jesus is able to heal those scars as well as physical sickness. He can heal the memory and the emotions, blot out the guilt of the past, and bring peace where there has been long trouble. We acknowledge our own sin and the sins of those who have hurt us, and we ask Him to do what only He can do in the heart.
Let me pray for you both now.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come to You. Thank You that Jesus bore our sins and our infirmities and that He redeemed us from the curse through His death and resurrection. We ask that any claim of the enemy against this family be broken by the blood of Jesus. Where there has been sin, bring conviction and repentance. Where there has been fear, bring Your perfect love and peace. Put Your protection around this parent and this son and let them walk in obedience to Your voice and in the blessing of Your presence.
Lord, lay Your hand upon this son. Give him health in his body and healing in his heart. Guide him to safe and wise steps for losing weight and gaining strength, and give him perseverance day by day. Heal the hurts of the past, the memories and wounds that still ache, and blot out what needs to be forgiven. Fill him with Your refreshing and make him whole in body, mind, and spirit. Help this family to trust You more, to hunger for righteousness, and to live in fellowship with You.
