We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up this earnest plea for deliverance from the bondage of smoking. We recognize that this habit has taken hold of your life, and we stand with you in agreement, declaring that our God is greater than any addiction or stronghold. The Word of God tells us in 2 Corinthians 3:17, "Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." We claim this liberty for you today, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
First and foremost, we must address the foundation of our faith. It is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father, and it is only by His blood that we are redeemed and set free. Acts 4:12 declares, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!" If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, we urge you to do so now. Confess your sins, believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9). This is the first and most crucial step in finding true deliverance and freedom.
Now, let us pray together for your deliverance from smoking. Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of faith, believing in Your power to break every chain. We lift up this dear one to You, asking that You would loose the shackles of addiction that have bound them. Your Word says in John 8:36, "If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed." We claim this freedom in Jesus' name. Lord, we ask that You would fill them with Your Holy Spirit, giving them the strength and self-control to resist the temptation to smoke. Galatians 5:16 tells us, "But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh." Empower them, Lord, to walk in the Spirit and not in the desires of the flesh.
We also rebuke the spirit of addiction that has taken hold of their life. In the name of Jesus, we command every foul spirit associated with this habit to leave and never return. We declare that this one is a child of God, redeemed by the blood of the Lamb, and no weapon formed against them shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). We pray that You would renew their mind, Lord, transforming them by the renewing of their thoughts, so that they may prove what is Your good, well-pleasing, and perfect will (Romans 12:2).
Father, we ask that You would provide a way of escape in every moment of temptation, as Your Word promises in 1 Corinthians 10:13, "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." Give them the courage to take that way of escape, Lord, and the wisdom to seek accountability and support from fellow believers.
We also pray for healing in their body, mind, and spirit. Smoking has taken a toll on their physical health, and we ask that You would restore their lungs, their heart, and every part of their body that has been affected. Your Word says in 3 John 1:2, "Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be healthy, even as your soul prospers." We claim this promise for them today.
In addition to prayer, we encourage you to take practical steps toward freedom. Replace the habit of smoking with godly habits, such as prayer, reading the Word, and fellowship with other believers. James 4:7 tells us, "Be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." Stand firm in your faith, resist the enemy, and he will flee. Seek out a trusted pastor, counselor, or support group to walk alongside you in this journey. Proverbs 15:22 reminds us, "Where there is no counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established."
Lastly, we declare that you are not alone in this battle. We stand with you, praying and believing for your complete deliverance. Philippians 4:13 assures us, "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me." With Christ, you can overcome this addiction. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2), and do not grow weary or lose heart.
Heavenly Father, we thank You for hearing our prayers and for Your faithfulness to answer. We trust in Your perfect timing and Your perfect will for this one's life. May they experience the fullness of Your freedom, joy, and peace as they walk in obedience to You. We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
