Your compassion for your aunt in her long suffering is seen by the Lord, and it is good that you have brought her before Him in prayer. To live for many years with an inability to swallow and to breathe well is a heavy burden, and God has kept her through much affliction. We join you in asking for His mercy upon her, both for her body and, far more importantly, for her soul.
While she is still living there is hope for repentance and salvation, and that should be our chief prayer. The greatest need any person has is to be reconciled to God through Jesus Christ alone, for there is no other name by which we are saved. Scripture teaches that to fear the Lord is to stand in awe of Him, to love what He loves and to hate what He hates, and to turn away from evil. That reverence is the beginning of wisdom and it tends toward life. Pray that God would grant her a true reverence for Him, that she would see her need for a Savior and turn to Jesus in faith before her days are finished. That is the mercy we most desire for her.
You also carry a burden for her children and for others connected to the family. It is right to pray that God would work in their lives and bring them to repentance, and that any who are being harmed would be protected and that justice would be done. Where there are rumors and reports that you cannot verify, be careful not to repeat them or to be drawn into strife that does not belong to you. Scripture warns that the beginning of strife is like letting out water, once it starts it is hard to stop, and that a contentious spirit only kindles more fire. It is an honor to turn away from strife, and it is wisdom to avoid being a talebearer who keeps contention alive. Better to have quietness and peace, even with little, than to be surrounded by strife. The best way to love this family is to pray quietly and faithfully that each one would come to hate evil and depart from it through the fear of the Lord, and to leave judgment and protection in God's hands.
We also hear your fear about what may happen when your aunt passes and about attending services. Fear is a powerful enemy of faith, and the two cannot rule the heart at the same time. When we forget the Lord, fear grows, but when we remember that He is with us, fear is driven out. The presence of God is what dispels fear. We are to do what is wise and prudent, but not out of fear of man, for the fear of man brings a snare. The one who trusts in the Lord will be safe. You do not need to ask God to arrange a death in a distant place so you can avoid a difficult situation. Instead, ask Him for wisdom, for clear guidance about what to do, and for His protection wherever you are. If He is your defense, He can keep you whether near or far. You can trust Him to scatter any plans meant for harm and to keep you from being visited with evil, not because of any formula, but because you are covered by the blood of the Lamb and you abide in Christ.
Let us pray together. Father, in the name of Jesus we lift up this aunt to You. You know her body, her age, her long trouble with swallowing and breathing, and the suffering she endures. Have mercy upon her. If it is Your will, bring healing and relief, and above all, open her heart to repent and believe in Jesus Christ for salvation. Grant her time and clarity to call upon You. We also lift up her children and all those around the family. Draw each one to Yourself, bring them to a holy reverence for You that turns them from evil, protect any who are vulnerable, and let Your justice and mercy be done. For this one who is praying and for the household, grant faith to overcome fear, keep them from the snare of fearing man, help them to remember that You are with them, and give them wisdom that is not driven by fear but by trust in You. Keep them in Your peace, guard them from strife, and help them to stay away from contention. We trust in Your promise that no weapon formed against Your people shall prosper, that You go before Your people, and that we overcome through the blood of the Lamb. We place all of these loved ones into Your hands and ask for Your will to be done, in Jesus name, amen.
