Deliverance prayer for the hiding former landlord

Thank you for bringing this burden to the Lord and for praying together in the name of Jesus. The heart of your prayer is right and God hears when His people agree together and seek Him.

What God desires most for this man, and for each of us, is not a distant ritual or a legal standing, but a close, living relationship as a Father with His child. Jesus taught us to pray, Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, because God wants to be known as Father in an intimate and loving way. That kind of relationship must come first. Fellowship, prayer, and walking with God only become real after that relationship is established through faith in Jesus Christ, who suffered on the cross to bring us to God.

Sin always separates. It breaks fellowship and pulls the heart away from God. Scripture speaks of turning from God to follow other loves as spiritual adultery, a forsaking of the first love we knew when we first came to Christ. When a person follows his own desires and enters relationships that are outside of God's design, he adopts a false identity and his heart can become hard and stony. Only God can break that hardness and give a soft heart that wants to follow the narrow path.

God's design for love and intimacy is clear in Scripture. Marriage is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, and sexual union belongs within that covenant alone. Any relationship outside of that is sin and brings bondage rather than freedom. True freedom is not being free to indulge the flesh, but being bound by a greater law, the law of love, where we no longer want to do what displeases the Father because we love Him.

So we join you in praying for deliverance in the full biblical sense. When we trust in Jesus we are delivered from the hold this world has on us now, and one day we will be delivered out of this world entirely. Right now we need that present deliverance in the midst of daily life.

Let us pray together for him:

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the cross and for Your Son Jesus who died and rose again so that we can be forgiven and become Your children. We lift this man to You. You know where he is and You know the plans You have for him, plans far greater than his own thoughts. We ask that You draw him into a true and loving relationship with You through Jesus, not merely a form of religion. Open his eyes to see who he truly is in Christ and to see the false identity he has taken on through sin.

Soften his heart where it has become hard. Give him courage to turn from sin and to walk on the narrow path that leads to life. Grant him a holy fear of Your name, which is to depart from evil, and give him understanding to recognize both the depth of Your love and the danger and bondage of the ungodly relationships that have controlled and threatened him.

Separate him, Lord, from the counsel of the ungodly and from every influence in his household or elsewhere that pulls him away from You. The Scripture says the ungodly are like chaff driven by the wind, and their way will perish, but You know the way of the righteous. Cause him to walk not in the counsel of the ungodly but to delight in Your Word and to meditate on it day and night.

Restore to him the joy of first love for Jesus. Bring him back to that early fellowship where he sought You earnestly. We pray that his vertical relationship with You would be made right, for when that axis is right, every other relationship in life can be brought into order. Keep him safe from harm and break every chain of control, blackmail and fear that the enemy has used against him.

We ask that he would cry out to You as his Father, turn fully to You, and experience the liberty Christ gives, standing fast in that freedom and not being entangled again in bondage. Salvation belongs to You, Lord, and Your blessing is upon Your people. Do this work for Your glory.

We ask all of this in the powerful name of Jesus, amen.
