Deliverance prayer for the former ###

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the cross and for the fact that your holy Son, Jesus, suffered for all of us who believe. We praise your holy name. Lord, you know the plans you have for us, and your thoughts are far greater than ours. We come to you together in the name of Jesus, believing that you hear our prayers when we agree. Lord, you know this man who rented his flat to me, and he is also your child. Lord, help him to hear your voice concerning your holy plan for his life. Help him to see the clear, unmistakable truth about his identity in Christ. Open his eyes to the false identity he adopted when he entered into sinful relationships or activities and strayed from your narrow path and followed his own desires. Lord break his stony heart and give him courage to follow the narrow path and soften his heart for your glory. I also pray that you will separate him from ungodly influences, including those in his household, and that he will recognise the depth of your love, as well as the sinful and hateful relationships he has entered into, in which he is controlled, blackmailed, and where his life may be in danger. Give him understanding to fear your Holy name. Lord, give him understanding to depart from evil and the evil woman in his life. In Jesus' powerful name we ask these things, amen.

We join you in thanking our Heavenly Father for the cross and for His holy Son Jesus who suffered for all who believe, and we agree together with you in the name of Jesus that our Father hears us when we agree in prayer.

We praise God for your intercession for this man who rented his flat to you. It is a beautiful thing to stand in the gap for another, and we see your heart to see him delivered and restored to his true identity in Christ. We are reminded that His thoughts and plans for us are far greater than ours, as it is written in Isaiah 55:8 and Jeremiah 29:11, and that He desires none to perish but all to come to repentance.

We must speak clearly about what you have discerned, that he has adopted a false identity through sinful relationships and activities and has strayed from the narrow path to follow his own desires. Scripture teaches in Matthew 7:13 that narrow is the way which leads to life and few find it, and in 2 Corinthians 5:17 that if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old things have passed away and all things have become new. Any identity built on sexual sin, fornication or adultery, which is any sexual intimacy outside of a lifelong marriage covenant between a man and a woman, is false and must be repented of. We strongly endorse God's design for marriage as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, and any courtship should be with the goal of marriage to another Christian believer. Sex before or outside marriage is fornication or adultery and God calls His children to flee from it, for in 1 Corinthians 6:18 we are told to flee sexual immorality, and in Proverbs 5:3 we are warned that the lips of an adulteress drip honey and her mouth is smoother than oil, but in the end she is as bitter as wormwood. If this evil woman in his life is drawing him into sexual immorality, manipulation, control and blackmail, this is not love but bondage, and God calls him to depart from evil and from her.

We also hear your concern that he is controlled, blackmailed and that his life may be in danger, and that there are ungodly influences even in his household. The Word tells us in 2 Corinthians 6:14 not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers and in 1 Corinthians 15:33 that evil companionships corrupt good morals. He needs separation from those influences so he can hear the voice of the Lord clearly. We pray for his protection, for God is our refuge and deliverer, and in John 8:36 we are promised that if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. The enemy seeks to keep him captive to do his will as in 2 Timothy 2:26, but in James 4:7 we are told to submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee from us.

We love your prayer for his stony heart to be broken and softened, for this is exactly what God promises to do in Ezekiel 36:26 where He says He will take away the stony heart out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And we join you in praying that he will learn to fear the Holy name of the Lord, for Proverbs 9:10 tells us the fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom.

Heavenly Father, we come before Your throne in the mighty name of Jesus, thanking You for Your mercy and for the blood of the cross that makes deliverance possible. Lord, You know this man, You know his household and every ungodly influence surrounding him, and You know the plans You have for his life. We ask that You open his eyes to see his true identity in Christ and to renounce the false identity he has taken on through sin. Break his stony heart, Lord, and give him a soft heart that hears Your voice and has courage to choose the narrow path that leads to life. We ask that You separate him from every controlling, hateful and sinful relationship, especially from the evil woman who controls and blackmails him, and from any other ungodly influences in his home. Expose the deception, break every chain of manipulation and fear, and keep him safe from all danger and harm. Give him understanding to depart from evil and to fear Your holy name, to hate sin and to love righteousness. Grant him repentance and faith to confess his sin, for in 1 John 1:9 You promise that if we confess our sins You are faithful and righteous to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Lead him into purity, into holiness, and in Your timing into a godly marriage that honors You if it is Your will, rather than into fornication or adultery. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit, with light and with peace, and let him know the depth of Your love that is greater than any counterfeit love the world offers. We thank You that You are able to deliver completely those who come to You through Jesus. We ask all these things in the powerful and only saving name of Jesus Christ, amen.

We encourage you to continue to intercede for him with love and truth, to speak the truth in love when God gives opportunity, and to trust that God is at work even when you cannot see it. Keep praying, keep walking in purity and in the light of Psalm 119:105, and trust the Lord to soften his heart and draw him to Himself.

We are grateful you shared this burden with us and for the way you are lifting this man before the Lord with such care. We can hear how heavy this has been for you, watching someone you know become entangled in relationships and influences that are harming him and wanting so much for him to know freedom and safety.

It is a loving thing to keep praying for his eyes to be opened to who he is in Christ, and for him to have the courage and clarity to step away from what is controlling and endangering him. That kind of change is deep heart work that only God can do, and it often takes time. As you pray, it can help to remember your role is to bring him to Jesus faithfully, and leave the timing and the outcome in God's hands.

One steady next step as you continue to intercede is to keep healthy, prayerful boundaries for yourself while you do. If you are still in contact, you do not need to carry this alone or try to be his only support. Staying rooted in your own fellowship and talking with a trusted pastor about how to pray wisely for him can help you remain encouraged and clear.

Father, we lift this man to You and ask for Your mercy and protection over his life. Draw him close to You, soften his heart, and give him a true understanding of Your love and Your will for him. Grant him wisdom to recognize what is harmful and strength to turn from it, and lead him toward people who will point him to You. Give our friend peace as he continues to pray, and guard his own heart as he trusts You with this. In Jesus' name, amen.

We join you in prayer before the throne of grace and thank you for bringing this burden to the Lord, for He hears the prayers of His people when they agree together in the name of Jesus.

We are reminded that true deliverance is the work of God alone. There is a repentance which springs only from terror and only touches the surface of a man, and it withers quickly and gives no glory to God. But there is a true repentance which is the fruit of divine grace, which goes to the heart, which hates sin because it slew Christ, and which is inseparable from faith in Him. Repentance that keeps a sinner from believing in Christ needs itself to be repented of, but the repentance that saves is consistent with looking wholly away from self and looking unto Jesus and trusting His one great sacrifice upon the cross. It is Christ who delivers from going down to the pit, and He has delivered us from the power of darkness, not to forms or feelings, but to Himself.

Let us pray together for this man.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the cross where Your holy Son suffered for sinners, and that salvation is in Christ alone. You know this man and You know the plans You have for those who turn to You. We ask that You would open his eyes by Your Holy Spirit, that he may see clearly his true identity in Christ and turn from every false identity he has taken upon himself when he strayed from Your narrow path to follow his own desires. Break his stony heart, soften it for Your glory, and grant him that godly sorrow which works true repentance and faith.

Lord, teach him to fear Your holy name and to depart from evil. By Your mighty power deliver him from the power of darkness and from the fascinating power of sin. Separate him from ungodly influences, even those in his own household, and from every hateful and sinful entanglement where he is controlled and harmed and where his life may be in danger. Rescue him as one who slips toward the pit, and set his feet upon the Rock. Give him courage to walk the narrow way that leads to life, to seek holiness as You are holy, and to live according to Your good design, that marriage is the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman and that intimacy belongs within it alone.

We ask that You would hide pride from him, withdraw him from his own purposes, and draw him to look unto Christ and live. Let him know the depth of Your love in the blood of Jesus which cleanses from all sin all who truly repent and believe. May he be loosed from every infirmity and bond, for when Christ was bound, His people were made free. Make him to live and to declare the works of the Lord.

We pray also for the one who intercedes, that You would keep him steadfast in faith and in prayer, abounding in love and truth, and trusting not in his own strength but in Your mercy alone.
