Deliverance prayer for the former ###

We join you in thanking God for the cross and for His holy Son Jesus who suffered for all who believe, and we bring this man before the Lord together with you, believing that God hears us when we agree in the name of Jesus.

We pray for this man who rented his flat to you, that God will help him hear His voice and show him His holy plan for his life. We ask that he may see the clear truth about his identity in Christ and turn from any false identity he has taken on when he strayed from the narrow path and followed his own desires into sinful relationships and activities. True hope of salvation does not rest in natural relationships or in boasting, but only in doing the will of God through faith in Jesus Christ, for salvation is through Him alone.

We ask for the two great works that only Christ can do, deliverance from evil and supply of good, deliverance from the curse and promotion to sonship. We pray that this man may put on Christ and receive the Spirit of adoption, so that he knows himself as a child of God and not as his sin defines him. We ask God to break his stony heart and soften it, to give him courage to follow the narrow path and to give him understanding to fear His holy name and to depart from evil.

We pray that God will separate him from ungodly influences, including those in his household, and deliver him from the sinful and hateful relationship that now controls him, where he is controlled and blackmailed and where his life may be in danger. We do not ask God to bless what is outside His design, for marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman and sexual union and living together belong within it, but we ask God to deliver him from what is contrary to it and to lead him to repentance, so that he may recognize both the depth of God's love and the danger of the sin that entangles him.

We pray for a deliverance that is greater than merely being kept from outward harm. God is able to deliver from the mouth of the lion, and He is able also to deliver from every evil work and from the power of sin itself, so that a person does not depart with condemnation but is kept to resist sin. We ask that this man may see the love of Christ who died for the ungodly while we were still sinners, who reconciled and justified us and made us heirs, and that this love would draw him to turn and live.

Continue to pray for him with gentle love and without reproach, remembering that all have sinned and that any good in us is not by our own wisdom but by the grace of God. Pray with thankfulness for the deliverance God has given you, and trust Him to work in this man's life.

Thank you for bringing this burden before the Lord so clearly and with such love for this man. We join with you in prayer in the name of Jesus, trusting that God hears when His people agree together and that His thoughts and plans for each life are far higher and better than our own.

We praise God with you for the cross, for there alone is our hope. Scripture teaches that when we put our faith in Jesus Christ we were crucified with Him, that the old life was put out of business and we were raised to walk in newness of life. Our standing before God is not in ourselves but in Christ, clothed in His righteousness. That new relationship does not give freedom to follow the flesh. It binds us to a greater law, the law of love, which calls us to live for Him who died for us.

Your prayer touches the heart of his real need, which is to know who he is in Christ. Apart from Jesus we easily take on a false identity built on our own desires and on sinful relationships and activities. The law of God is good, and one of its works is to show sin for what it truly is, that it might appear exceeding sinful to us. When we see it that way we stop excusing it and we turn to Christ for forgiveness and for new life. In our flesh dwells no good thing, and no amount of trying to reform or improve the flesh will set us free. Many of us have learned that the place of defeat, where we cease trying in our own strength and hand our life completely over to Jesus, becomes the place of victory, for then it is no longer we who live but Christ who lives in us.

We pray with you that God will soften what has become hard and give this man a heart that fears His holy name. The fear of the Lord is to depart from evil, and God alone can take a stony heart and make it tender toward Him and give courage to walk the narrow path that leads to life. We ask that the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus, which alone can free us from the law of sin and death, would work powerfully in him. Greater is He who is in those who belong to Christ than any power in the world, and that same power expels darkness when the light and life of Jesus comes in.

We also pray that God will deliver him from every ungodly influence that holds him, including those in his own household. Scripture shows us the strength we draw from fellowship in the body of Christ, and how isolation from that fellowship leaves a person vulnerable. Sometimes God allows a person to feel the weight of that isolation so that he will come to repentance and return. As God delivered His people from bondage in Egypt, a deliverance He called them to remember always, so He still delivers today. There is a twofold deliverance we need, to be delivered from the hold the world has on us while we are in it, and one day to be delivered out of it. Right now we ask for that present deliverance in his life, that every controlling, hateful and destructive tie, every form of blackmail and danger, would be broken in Jesus name, and that he would be separated unto God and surrounded by healthy, godly fellowship that will strengthen him.

We pray that his eyes would be opened to see both the depth of God's love for him and the true nature of the sin that has entangled him. May he come to hate what God hates and to love what God loves, and may he find that the righteousness of the law is fulfilled in those who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit, as Christ dwells in them.

Continue to hold him before the Lord with travailing prayer until Christ is formed in him. God is faithful, and He who began a good work will be faithful to complete it in those who turn to Him. We ask that this man will turn fully to Jesus Christ alone for salvation, receive the new life that is in the Son, depart from every evil way and from every relationship outside of God's design for marriage as a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and walk in purity and truth. May the Lord keep him safe, grant him repentance that leads to life, and establish him in grace and in the love of Christ. In the powerful name of Jesus we pray, amen.

We thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf and for allowing us to stand in agreement with you in prayer for this man who rented his flat to you. We are grateful that you asked us to join you in lifting him up before the Father and we have continued to bring him before the Lord together in the name of Jesus.

We have been praying that the Lord will complete the deliverance work you requested and draw him fully into his true identity in Christ as a new creation as promised in 2 Cor 5:17. We have asked the Lord to break his stony heart and give him a heart of flesh according to Ezek 36:26 and to give him courage and softness of heart to turn from the false identity and sinful desires that led him off the narrow path and to follow the Lord in obedience. We have also prayed that God will open his eyes to see the truth about the ungodly influences and sinful relationships that have controlled and ensnared him, that the Lord will separate him from those influences even within his household, that He will protect him where his life may be in danger or where he is being blackmailed, and that He will grant him a holy fear of the Lord and understanding to depart from evil as taught in Prov 3:7. We continue to pray that he will hear the voice of the Lord concerning His holy plan for his life and that the Son will set him free indeed as promised in John 8:36.
