Deliverance from Sexual Addiction

We thank you for your honesty and for your humble desire to be delivered from this struggle and we rejoice with you that you have decided from today to quit and to seek the Lord for freedom. We want you to know that we stand with you in this battle and we do not condemn you, but we must speak the truth in love about this habit so that you can walk in true freedom.
The Word of God teaches us that our bodies are not our own and that sexual purity matters deeply to Him. This habit comes from lust in the heart and is a form of sexual immorality that God calls us to flee from, not to manage or entertain. Jesus said in Matthew 5:28 that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. And we are commanded in 1 Corinthians 6:18 to flee sexual immorality, every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. God designed sexual intimacy to be enjoyed only within the lifelong covenant of marriage between a man and a woman, and any sexual activity outside of that, including masturbation driven by lustful thoughts or images, falls short of His holy design and keeps us in bondage.
We also want to lovingly rebuke the lie that this is just a bad habit that you can quit in your own strength. It is sin that needs repentance and it is a spiritual battle that needs deliverance through Jesus Christ. The good news is that there is forgiveness and power to overcome. 1 John 1:9 says if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. And James 4:7 says be subject therefore to God, but resist the devil, and he will flee from you. You cannot overcome by willpower alone, you overcome by walking by the Spirit. Galatians 5:16 says but I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. And Romans 6:14 promises for sin will not have dominion over you, for you are not under law, but under grace.
We lift you up together before the Father now.
Father in heaven, we come before Your throne of grace in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we lift up our brother who is crying out for deliverance. Lord, we thank You that he has humbled himself and chosen to turn from this sin and to seek Your face. We ask You to forgive him completely and to cleanse him from all unrighteousness. Create in him a clean heart, O God, renew a right spirit within him as You promise in Psalm 51:10. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit and give him strength to flee from youthful lusts and to pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace as taught in 2 Timothy 2:22. Help him to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ and to fix his mind on what is pure and holy. Break every chain of addiction and lust, and let him know that he is more than a conqueror through Him who loved him. Give him victory one day at a time, and when temptation comes, make a way of escape so he can endure it. Surround him with godly accountability and fellowship so he does not fight alone. We declare freedom over him in Jesus name, for whom the Son sets free is free indeed. Amen.
We encourage you to walk this out daily with practical steps of obedience. Confess this struggle to a trusted mature Christian brother or pastor for accountability, do not fight in isolation. Remove every source of temptation, especially pornography or suggestive images and entertainment, for if your eye causes you to stumble it is better to cut it off than to remain in bondage. Fill your mind daily with Scripture, memorize verses like 1 Corinthians 6:18 and Galatians 5:16, pray continually, and fast as the Lord leads you. When temptation comes, do not entertain it or reason with it, but flee and call on the name of Jesus immediately. Remember that God is faithful and this deliverance is a process of renewing your mind and walking in the Spirit. If you stumble, do not remain in shame, quickly confess, receive His forgiveness, and get back up again.
We are praying for you to walk in purity and in the joy of a cleansed conscience, and we trust that the Lord who has begun this good work in you will be faithful to complete it as you abide in Jesus Christ, for there is no other name by which we are saved and have victory.

Your honest confession has been heard, and we join with you in prayer to the God who delights to deliver His people.
You have done well to call this habit what it is, a sin that would hold you captive, and to turn from it. The resolve you have made today is good, but remember this truth, deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin. It is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy. You cannot by mere willpower alone break these chains, but where we look for justification, there must we also look for sanctification, for as we are justified through Jesus Christ, we must also expect to receive sanctification from a heavenly source.
Do not think that God's ear is shut to such a prayer. He is not deaf to the cry of a soul that longs to be made holy. The Lord Jesus Christ has found a ransom. The prisoner ready to be executed finds undeserved deliverance, for the King's own Son has borne the penalty of all his iniquities. When God Himself proclaims, I have found a ransom, then is the deliverance certain. Indeed, it is already accomplished at the cross. Your hope is not in the strength of your resolution, but in the blood of the Lamb slain, and in the power of the Holy Spirit who is able to make you hate the sin you once loved.
Therefore look to your heavenly Father altogether and alone. Rest your soul upon Christ. Come daily to Him for cleansing and for power. Flee from every occasion and provision for this sin, as Joseph fled. Keep your heart with all diligence, and let your mind be filled with the Word of God, so that there is no room for the tempter to sow his tares. Walk in the light, seek the help of a faithful brother or pastor to whom you can be accountable, and be much in prayer.
We have a far richer theme for music than Israel of old, for we have been delivered from worse enemies, and saved by a greater salvation. The Lord who brought Israel forth with silver and gold makes the deliverance of His people effectual, and He attends it with enrichment. He will not only forgive, but He will restore and strengthen you, that you may live a life of purity to His praise.
Let us pray for you now.
O Lord our God, we thank Thee that this soul has not hidden his sin, but has brought it into the light before Thee. Thou art He who delivers from the pit, and Thou hast found a ransom in the precious blood of Jesus. We beseech Thee, grant to our brother a full deliverance from this bondage. Wash him in the blood of Christ, and by Thy Spirit give him power to overcome. Teach him to look not to himself, but to Thee alone for sanctification. Keep him from temptation, renew his mind, and make him strong to flee youthful lusts and to pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace. Let him know that if he ever rises from this struggle, all the honor of his deliverance must be of Free Grace only. And grant that being delivered, he may live and declare the works of the Lord, to the praise of Thy glorious grace. In the name of Jesus Christ our only hope, Amen.
