We hear the heaviness and fear in your request and we join with you in bringing this before the Lord together. It is right to recognize that drunkenness and the violence and strife that follows it is not of God, and to feel unsafe in a home where alcohol controls the atmosphere is understandable. We stand with you for deliverance, protection, and wisdom for your next steps.
The Word warns us plainly about alcohol when it masters a person. Proverbs 20:1 says Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise. Ephesians 5:18 says Don't be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit. What you are describing, nightly drinking, pressuring an elderly mother for money and alcohol and cigarettes, and a physical altercation that nearly led to jail, is the dissipation and disorder the Scripture speaks of. We rebuke this bondage to alcohol and the manipulation and dishonor toward a parent. Exodus 20:12 says Honor your father and your mother, and to pressure and exploit a mother who is nearly elderly for substance and provision is dishonoring and sinful. We also rebuke violence and strife in the home, for God desires peace and sobriety in our dwellings. Galatians 5:19-21 lists drunkenness and outbursts of anger among the works of the flesh that will not inherit the kingdom of God, and we pray for repentance and freedom from these.
We also notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and find salvation and deliverance. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We encourage you to call upon the name of Jesus not only for this situation but for your own forgiveness and eternal life, believing that He died and rose again for you. Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
We are concerned for your safety as you were supposed to move into your mother's home tomorrow and now feel trapped with nowhere to go. The Lord is your refuge and protector. Psalm 91:1-2 says He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of Yahweh, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust. Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. We pray God will make a safe way for you, whether that is the Lord moving this person out of the home, providing another godly home, or surrounding you with help from a Bible believing church family who can walk with you in person. We encourage you to seek wise counsel from a pastor and trusted believers immediately, to set clear boundaries against enabling alcohol use, and if there is threat of violence, to not hesitate to seek protection from appropriate authorities, for Romans 13:4 reminds us authorities are appointed by God to restrain evil. You are right to discern that inviting drunkenness into the home is inviting the enemy's influence. James 4:7 says Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
We pray together now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, asking for Your mercy and deliverance in this home. Lord, we ask that You break the power of alcohol over this loved one and over this mother, and set them free by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Bring deep conviction and repentance, and replace the craving for drink with a hunger for You. We pray You would convict this person who pressures and dishonors his mother, that he would repent and seek to honor her and to live sober and self controlled. We rebuke the spirit of strife and violence and we command peace to rule in that home. Lord, protect this dear mother who is elderly and vulnerable, and protect the one who submitted this request who feels unsafe and without a place to go. Give wisdom about whether to move in tomorrow or to wait, and open a safe door for housing that is sober and secure. Provide godly community, provision, and clear next steps, and let no weapon formed against them prosper. We pray 2 Timothy 1:7 over them, that You have not given them a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self control. Guard them, guide them, and let Your will be done in this home, that it would be filled with Your Spirit and not dissipation. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Savior. Amen.
We encourage you to remain in prayer, to fast as the Lord leads, and to fill the home with Scripture and worship if you are there, for God can deliver where man cannot. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. Keep seeking the Lord daily, stay connected to a local church that preaches the Word, and do not enable the drinking by providing money or alcohol. Trust that God sees your need for safety and housing and will provide as you seek Him first. Matthew 6:33 says But seek first God's Kingdom, and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. We continue to stand with you for complete deliverance and for a home marked by sobriety, safety, and the peace of Christ.
